We were very grateful to book the cabin on very short notice as our reservations elsewhere were cancelled at the last minute due to flooding in the area. We went to great lengths prior to booking to ensure the landlord was fully aware that the rental was to accommodate a family reunion that we estimated could be 21 people (18 adults, 2 elementary aged children, 1 newborn). The landlord advised that the property manager hadn't been in yet to set up for the season and that the lawn might be long. He also advised that patio furniture bought for the property was unassembled and in boxes in the garage. He said that if we wanted and brought tools, we could do the assembly and also cut the grass. As per the landlord's request, our group of 18 stayed outside the cabin for the bulk of the time. Also, as per our arrangement, 4 adults and 3 children slept in the cabin and we had 1 pull behind trailer and 1 tent on the property with other folks staying elsewhere around the lake. After our departure, the landlord changed our credit card an additional $250 for restocking of the toilet paper, paper towels, soap and garbage bags that he said we 'stole'. We thought this was ridiculous and insulting and above and beyond the day rate specified, hostess fees, cleaning fee, pet fee and service fee that were paid as part of the cost for the 3 day rental. The products supplied by the landlord / property manager were minimal. Without so much as a discussion, the landlord charged our credit card $250 to refurnish the necessities that weren't sufficiently provided in the first place. He also failed to say thanks for mowing his grass or for us assembling the 6 patio chairs and table.
