Built in the 1920s by the artist and embroiderer Ann Macbeth, High Bield is a remarkable house which was completely refurbished a few years ago. It was built high on the fell and takes in views of Brotherswater and Ullswater and offers walking from the door to High St, Helvellyn, St Sunday Crag, Fairfield and many other popular spots. Almost every room has a spectacular view, especially the twin room which was originally an artist's studio. The house oozes charm and is very comfortable and warm, with a woodburner in the sitting room.

We had an amazing mini break. The house was warm and homely with plenty of space for us and 5 kids and all the amenities we needed. The drive up the track was a bit challenging but the location was worth it, the views from the garden and windows are amazing. It was awesome starting each day watching the birds and squirrels in the garden. After long walks it was nice to sit around playing some of the many board games and checking out the impressive collection of books. The log burner was nice to have but the house was warm enough so we didn’t need to use it. As a base we found it very convenient and were able to explore all over the Lake District without ever having to travel too far. The host was friendly and very accommodating. We had a great time and would love to come and stay again.

We enjoyed the beautiful area. The cottage is in a beautiful location with a view of lakes and mountain ridges. There are several hiking trails in the area where you can also walk with children. We had some questions during our stay and they were answered quickly. There are quite a lot of things in the cottage, so it takes some puzzling where you can put your own groceries, for example.

Lovely warm house in a very quiet area of the lakes. Stunning views. The drive up to the house is very bumpy, so if you have a low car, I wouldn't even risk it. We will be returning in the future.

High Bield was exactly what we were looking for--elevated property overlooking the pristine valley with privacy and seclusion and the opportunity to walk out of the door and onto the Fells. High Bield is a fabulous place to stay and wake up each day with breathtaking views of the valley. It is well located and despite the lakes being very busy it didn’t feel like it here. The house is well stocked with all the annoying things that other properties sometimes aren’t. We would definitely recommend staying here.
