Top Cot Cottage: comfortable, friendly, perfect in St Just!

This historic miners’ house, in a granite terrace built in 1860, has been fully refurbished to the highest standard as a perfect base to explore the spectacular Cornish coast and Lands End (Penwith) peninsular. Relax in the comfortable sitting room with its period features (including the original granite inglenook fireplace with woodburning stove), separate dining room or the sheltered sun-trap of the rear garden. The spacious upstairs main bedroom has a luxury king-sized bed, with 2 single beds in the adjacent small bedroom.

Named for its position, a quiet cul-de-sac in a conservation area at the head of the famously beautiful Cot Valley, Top Cot Cottage has everything you need for the holiday you want: from stunning sandy beaches and hidden coves, to walking the rugged coastal path, exploring the many picturesque remains of the mining industry or roaming the pre-historic landscape of the surrounding moorland. And the convenience of being only a 5 minute stroll from the compact centre of the small ancient mining town of St Just, with it’s pubs, restaurants, cafes and shops.

Excellent spot for walkers to stay
This is a small miner's cottage (probably) suitable for a couple and 2 kids -- decent double bedroom with adequate storage and smallish bedroom with two small singles at right angles. There's a sitting room downstairs with a couple of recliners, a sofa, TV, and a wood-stove (didn't need/use it); a small dining room, plus a kitchen with electric hob, electric kettle, sink (frig and microwave in side ante-room); and a bathroom with bath with electric-shower over, basin and toilet, and washing machine (didn't need/use). The plumbing is a bit primitive but everything works and the shower quite adequate, 3 electric radiators with thermostats keep the place warm and cosy, and the TV provides entertainment on rainy days. There's a small garden at the West-facing rear, with a chair or two and a washing line. I was given direct phone contact with the housekeeper (didn't need/use but very reassuring) and with the owner who was very helpful, and was keen to receive my feedback on a few minor quibbles that will probably be fixed on a next visit. Parking is outside front in terrace on a first-come, first-served basis, with overflow in the small Lafrowda car park at end of street (I always managed to find a spot). All in all a very functional, convenient, comfortable enough base for Coast Path walking and quick access to St Just shops/pubs and excellent cafes -- don't miss the DOG &RABBIT***** !

Excellent location for easy exploration of the Cornish cape region, walking distance to coastal path, and amenities. Cottage is a no frills holiday rental. Some areas need a little attention -shower poor, back door locking , bath panel , but overall all good

St. Just Stay
Overall a nice place to stay. We had a bit of trouble settling in...wiping down streaky counters, purchasing laundry detergent for the washing machine, and toilet paper as there was only one roll and no tissues. The listing mentions a dryer as a popular amenity, but there was none. When you click to see all amenities it only lists a washer in the laundry category--this discrepancy in the listing should be corrected. This put a wrinkle in our plans as a washer and dryer were key to our long stay and altered our schedule to wait for our clothes to line dry. All that said, the bed was comfortable, we used the kitchen to cook dinner twice and found what we needed to make our meals. The co-op store was a great find and the area was beautiful!

Perfect getaway
Top Cot Cottage is a lovely Cornish cottage. It is well equipped with everything you need. St Just is a great village with a handful of shops and there are great walks nearby. We had a lovely short break and coastal walks in the sunshine. Tony gave us all the information we needed to have a great holiday.

West Cornwall
The house is really brilliantly located in the village close to the shops and cafes but also an easy walk to the coast and exploration of the historic tin mining area. We and our dogs enjoyed walks not having to go in the car, and the house provided everything we wanted to come back to. Comfy beds, sharp knives in the kitchen - everything very relaxing

Very peaceful
A very quiet cottage. Easy parking ( even for 2 cars) and walking distance to shops and cafes. The small courtyard garden is chilly in the late afternoon, but if you have camping chairs go to end of road (a few yards) where there is evening sun and a view of the sea. The cottage was clean and comfortable.

Excellent stay in an excellent location
The property was an excellent place to enjoy a few days away in Cornwall. Places to visit like St. Ives, Land's End and St Micheal's Mount are all between 15 and 30 minutes drive away and most could also be reached by public transport. St. Just itself offers great access to the coastal walking path and the short hike (20 minutes) down into the Cot Valley and to the small beach there is enjoyable and leads to a wonderful quiet little beach from which one can enjoy gorgeous sunsets. The property is definitely comfortable and spacious enough for 2 adults and 2 kids. The kitchen is well equipped, the bathroom is spacious, the low water pressure isn;t really a problem unless you're very hasty in taking a bath (but then you should remember you're on a relaxing holiday!) and the garden is sweet and lovely. We enjoyed breakfast in the garden every morning. The communication with the landlord was completely problem-free and efficient. The parking arrangements are very convenient. The village is equally lovely. The local Coop has everything you need to self-cater, the Red Star local Chinese Take-away has some fine Peking Duck, while the two local pubs we tried are also very nice. The King's Arms has a really nice menu where you could easily spend two dinners before having to resort to "pub classics" and "The Commercial" equally has an interesting menu. All at fair and reasonable prices and within 5 minutes walk from the cottage.

Top notch Top Cot
A lovely terraced cottage in the heart of the old tin mining area of the West Penwith Peninsular. Everything that one would expect was provided including a very comprehensive guide to both the property and the area. My dog appreciated the easily accessible fields at the end of the terrace in the evening and first thing in the morning. Definitely recommended for a couple with or without a dog!

Top Cot cottage review
Top Cot cottage was in an excellent location in St Just. As a regular visitor to this part of Cornwall it was great for walking out to the local areas such as Cot Valley & surrounding attractions. Local pubs & cafes and food stores in easy walking distance. It was a shame the garden was overgrown and not really accessible for sitting out in a nice setting, this was one of the areas I wanted when I booked. The cottage itself was comfortable and has all the facilities we required. The only thing there I would question was as supposed to be COVID-19 cleaned the grill & oven were not very clean, old greasy tin foil in grill etc. But everything else was clean and tidy, bed was very comfortable. Overall we would come back and stay again at the cottage.

Fantastic Clean Cottage
This cottage is a beautiful quaint cottage which is exceptionally clean due to the efficient housekeeper Julia. Tony has the decor and furniture perfect. The beds were very clean with crisp linen and very comfy mattresses. It is very peaceful too. Plenty of parking just 2 mins walk away. We had a lovely welcome note and some scones and Tony made sure every need was catered for and was on hand to assist if necessary. We loved our stay and when we come back to Cornwall we shall re book here. It allows dogs but the house is so clean there is no evidence of previous dogs. My teenage son and dog loved it too.
