Third World Service, First World Prices
Put simply do not stay here. The owner will doubtless respond pointing out that we have complained about a great many things, he is quite correct. We had a great deal to complain about. We were offered a refund for leaving early, we left three weeks ago we have not yet received even the courtsey of a reply to our numerous emails, this is symtomatic of the owner and local managers attitude to guests. It is a shame because the house is in a lovely location and in our view if it were managed and maintained to the implied standards would make an excellent holiday property. In our stay we have endured no water, no electricity, no heating, no workable oven, no wifi, local managers emailing us saying they had resigned so dont bother to contact them anymore though mysteriously their photo now appears on the site. We have also endured no satellitte tv and were told "you have to pay to fix it". There are numerous damp patches throughout the house including a major leak in the master bedroom. The property is only wheelchair friendly if you have remembered to bring two strong people. The fire extinguishers quite literally are 1980's vintage. The gas BBQ is large and very rusty. There is no dishwasher and if there were it would undoubtably trip the electrics as the microwave does now. Prior to arrival we queried and were told there is a local bar that will be open and serve typical Spanish tapas, there is only a local resident who will if you let her know 24 hours in advance graciously offer food, or you can walk the 3 kilometres to Periana. The on your doorstep National Parks are 30 mins drive away and there is a 300 yard very steep and very dilapidated drive to the house, nervous drivers need not apply. The access to the paddock is littered with rusty metal, nails and broken glass much of which we removed as we have a dog. Minor issues there wasnt a workable can opener, the iron doesnt work, the pool chemicals are in a hut adjacent to the pool certainly in France where i live this is deemed illegal and dangerous, and were you to use the annex and leave the adjacent door open this has potential safety issues also. The exterior shower has loose bricks along the top. One kitchen fan doesnt work, there were at least 10 broken light bulbs, there were no working smoke alarms. Disturbingly the electric supply fuse box for the hot water is in the swimming pool area and exposed to the elements and at a height very convenient for little fingers. etc etc

Outstanding place
We had a great time at Casa La Negra. The place is awesome and Penny was very helpful with everything we needed. The house is perfectly prepared for large groups, we are looking forward to visiting Casa La Negra again. Highly recomended.

5th Visit.
For me, going to Casa La Negra is a little like coming home, except there is someone else looking after the Villa and constantly up-grading it. Penny and her staff keep La Negra spotless and I can always rely on it being exactly as I've told my customers it's going to be. I am getting to know the surrounding villages and specifically the Restaurants very well, and our group always receives a great welcome and service. I'm visiting twice this year (2016) starting April 26th for a whole month, I know I won't want to come back to England. Thanks Penny.

Wonderful location, updated accommodation
We stayed here last year and didn't hesitate to return. Since our last trip the house has been updated but it still retains the old Spainish character. There is plenty of room for everybody to relax and the children are safe and can be kept an eye on with ease. The pool has the option to heat which was great and as with the previous year we only left to buy food to put on the BBQ. Customer service was great and welcoming and I would not hesitate in recommending to freinds or family.

Lovely secluded farmhouse in beautiful setting
We had another wonderful week at La Negra in June for our 2nd Yoga retreat there. We were really happy with the new heated pool system which meant that swimming was an absolute joy at any time of the day. The upgrades to the kitchen we're just lovely, and as usual the bedrooms, house and grounds were spotlessly clean and beautifully kept. Penny was a great help with anything we needed including booking taxis. If you're looking for a secluded getaway then this is the place, we love La Negra and can't wait to return.

4th visit
As promised, many modifications over the last few months have now been done and I believe there are even more in the pipeline. New automatic irrigation system has been installed and the lawn is in the process of being replaced with a hardier veriaty of grass, well worth a little patience for it to get established. The pool heating is fantastic and is now like stepping into a warm bath. Pool side "tropical" parasols add a mediterranean feel, extra new sun lounger have been purchased, lighting to the pool and terrace are make them more usable after dark. The agent arranged for food to be brought in for a BBQ that was fully prepared and ready after our return from a long day away from the villa. I would recommend this villa for all types of activity groups and families alike. I've already booked my groups stay for September 2015, May 2016 and September 2016. Thank you to Penny for all her assistance and knowledge of the area.

3rd Visit
February, bright sunny days and cold evening, but at Casa La Negra it keeps getting better, with 3 large log burner the Villa was very "toasty". Since our last visit in September 2014, lots of modifications have been made to the property and many more planned. After an unfortunate freaky storm the old wooden veranda deemed a little unsafe, was removed and is about to be replaced with a beautiful new stone one, I believe but with many other features planned over this year I can't wait to be back in May 2015. Thanks for lighting the fire before we arrive, a great welcome.

What a gem!
This is just the perfect place for a large group or family. Penny was very helpful and we were overwhelmed by the property. There were 6 adults and 10 children, we were a little apprehensive as we thought we might get under each others feel, not a chance. The place is huge with lots of different places to hang out. We loved the fact there are no neighbours close by and the views are outstanding. It's in quite a rural location, so a car is a must. We generally just hung out by the pool, one day we did a trip to the water park which is a 30 minute drive. Really can't find fault with the place. We love it so much, we've booked to go back next year! Thank you so much Penny and Malcolm

1st of Many....
The house is perfect for our needs. It is complemented by the lovely Penny who help me with my project organisation and went out of her way to introduce me to very useful "local" people who could enhance the experience for me and my customers. I am sure casa Le Negra will be seeing a lot of my and my groups. Thanks Penny.

2nd of Many
I brought my group of photographers for a taste of the real Spain. Choosing Casa La Negra for me was very easy, with its 8 en-suite bedrooms it fitted the bill for my discerning travellers. The location is stunning and enjoys beautiful sunsets. The people are friendly, helpful and always willing to show the best their country has to offer. I have nothing but praise for this house and it's location. If you want a peaseful setting to base your family or group this is it. Thanks Penny.

Great for families
The house and gardens are very spacious and well laid out with fabulous views across the hills and valley. After a couple of days any formalities had gone and we just relaxed. The pool is a good size with the patio and gardens receiving sunshine all day and being higher up in the hills, the heat was dry and very comfortable. The main house and kitchen is well appointed and very comfortable and our two young children had a great time exploring. We only left to go food shopping and used the BBQ every evening to cook. It really felt like a home away, looking forward to returning.

A beautiful characterful farmhouse
Some friends and I ran a small yoga retreat here in May and we were really happy with our choice of venue. Penny was really helpful with everything before and during our stay and was always on hand if we needed anything. When we first arrived we were taken aback with how lovely the house and grounds were, it's truly a stunning place, very tastefully furnished and really clean. There are mountain views in all directions and there are lots of lovely spots to lounge around in. The area is great and we had some lovely day trips from the villa. It's quite secluded so plan to drive if you want to get out and explore. If you're looking for a really special place full of character away from it all then this is the place for you. We plan to return soon, thanks Penny : )

Fabulous villa, peaceful location, stunning views
We enjoyed a lovely family holiday at Casa la Negra and would recommend it to any families or extended groups of all ages who enjoy peace and tranquility and like to be away from the tourist trail. There is masses of outdoor space and enough room for anyone to find a quiet corner even in a large group. Penny and Malcolm are fantastic hosts who will welcome you to the area and offer lots of advice on local facilities and days out and ensure you have an enjoyable and relaxing break and make the most of this wonderful location. We particularly enjoyed the river walk at Rio Chillar in Nerja and our amazing day trip to the Alhambra Palace at Granada. The property is clean and tidy with everything you could wish for in the well equipped kitchen, bathroom and pool towels, indoor and outdoor games and loads of tables, chairs and sunbeds. Penny's attention to detail is second to none and after many years villa holidays we rated this as our best ever. Thank you Penny we hope to come back soon!

Best Birthday Ever!
This holiday home is absolutely fabulous. Penny & Malcolm helped with all aspects of our stay, including arranging a fantastic birthday meal in at El Canuela with the most spectacular view over Lake Vinuela. All rooms and bathrooms were clean and well equipped and the lodge rooms were far better than expected. Our party included 5 young children and with a little manoeuvring of furniture managed to make the terrace a very safe place for them to play in the shade - and also for us to have the odd glass of wine without losing them! The pool, whilst a bit smaller than expected, was just perfect for us and the children (we had the full 16 people there at one point). It is easily secured and the children all became confident in the water and had great fun jumping in. There is full sun and also shade almost all the time around the pool and is very well equipped with seating and sun beds. The house is very secluded and up a very steep drive, but this gives it the most wonderful atmosphere and stunning views all round. The local village of Periana is very welcoming and has a basic, but superb bar/restaurant plus a very comprehensive supermarket with pricing often cheaper than in the main towns. Overall we could not have chosen a better home from home and could not have asked for more amiable and helpful hosts. Thank you so much for making my birthday such a great occasion. We would definitely consider coming back.

Ladies on a luxury detox retreat - very happy!
This was our second visit to La Negra as a group of ladies seeking some luxury detox downtime in the sun. We enjoyed it so much last September we booked up again as soon as we thought the sun would be with us in 2013. The accommodation is rustic style with the added indulgence of 2 four-poster beds. The log cabins are spacious and cosy each with their own shower room - we could not fault the cleanliness of the whole site. The pool never had more than a few leaves in it & these were scooped up regularly by Malcom. There is plenty of space to gather together as a group as we did to exercise, eat and chatter. At the same time if you fancy some "me time", to read, or catch up on some emails, check out the poolside, upstairs lounge with TV and various patios around the property. Penny could not have been more helpful, organising walks in the national park and providing tips and history about the local area. She also organised a wonderful beauty therapist and massage service from a very talented local lady. We all enjoyed amazing hot stone massages which I can not recommend enough if you get the chance. We will definitely be coming back to La Negra again - a beautiful villa with wonderful hosts and a lovely location.

Ā”Hasta luego!
Upon arrival we were greeted by Penny, an extremely helpful and welcoming lady, equipt with a welcome package including important telephone numbers, food and drink. Penny then showed us around the villa and was more than happy to answer any questions we had. Everything about the property was well kept and all was in fully working order. For example, during our 5 day stay, a handy man (a jolly, local Spaniard) visited La Negra to ensure the pool and garden were maintained to the highest standard. The gorgeous panoramic views surrounding the property complemented our relaxing holiday furthermore. We experienced no problems at all during our stay and would recommend La Negra to our friends and family and will be returning in the future.

rural retreat in Periana,Andalucia
This lovely house was exactly as it was described in the listing. The covered veranda with its long table was our favorite place to have our meals, and there were plenty of comfortable chairs everywhere to relax in.The swimmingpool with plenty of loungers and tables and chairs was another favorite area. The large kitchen was well equiped, and the lovely upstairs lounge with its beautiful views was another place to gather in. All the bedrooms with bathrooms en suite were comfortable and very nicely decorated. Plenty of towels were provided, everything was clean and well maintained. The garden is pretty, well taken care off. We had excellent customer service, from being met on arrival with a lovely welcome package awaiting on the table , to organizing a wonderful meal cooked by a local lady, for a party we held during our week's stay. We were given plenty of information on which places to visit, where to shop etc. From the house it is an easy short car trip to the village where there are shops and restaurants, and it takes an hour by car to get to Malaga. Alltogether it was a perfect place for our family get together, and we would recommend the house to all our friends and relatives.

Beautiful villa for a family vacation
Lovely and well-equipped villa in a peaceful environment. We stayed in La Negra for one week with 7 adults and 2 kids from Finland, and enjoyed very much of our vacation. Big plus for having own bathrooms for each bedroom! Also the patio was beautiful with sweet grapes growing as a rooftop. During the week we went horse-back riding in a local finca, recommended by the owner. Also had lovely dinners in the restaurant just outside the village of Periana. We can really recommend the place for those looking for a peaceful vacation in the beautiful mountain scenery.

Gorgeous
We had a fabulous stay in this lovely farmhouse. It was more than we had anticipated. Periana is a lovely typically Spanish village with delicious raciones! The fiesta which we were lucky enough to see there was fun too. There is plenty of space in the house for two families to share whilst having their own privacy too. The pool was very popular with everyone with lovely mountain views.

Beautiful location with wonderful views
Thoroughly enjoyable holiday. The farmhouse is a lovely property with plenty of places to sit during the different stages of the day to enjoy the mountains and countryside. The upstairs living area and bedrooms are fantastic! The surrounding area of Periana and other villages are delightful. Highly recommend this peaceful retreat. Carole and Dougie Nicholson (Edinburgh)
