You are less than a 10 minute walk from the bustling streets with independent cafes, restaurants and friendly pubs in the town centre. The steam train is only 5-minutes away and winds its way from Pickering over the rolling heather, through valleys and over hills to many picturesque villages all the way to Whitby and is ideal for a special day out. In December they even have a themed Christmas Santa Special. One of the highlights on the calendar in Pickering is the annual War Weekend, which includes battle re-enactments, live music, and more as the beatiful historic town seems to slip back in time.
The surrounding North Yorkshire Moors is a haven for walkers with many trails to explore and an abundance of wildlife. Dalby Forest has a choice of trails for cyclists as well as walkers, plus for thrill seekers you have the Go Ape zip lines through the treetops. Nearby you have Malton the food capital of Yorkshire with a market, award-winning restaurants and a cookery school. Castle Howard is one of Britain’s finest stately homes, sure to fill you with awe. There are also the beaches of Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington nearby to explore. For children why not treat them with a day out to remember at Flamingoland theme park and zoo less than 10 minutes away. Beach 18 miles. Pub and restaurant 175 yards.
