Go fishing on the headland’s rock shelf and watch an exciting surfing contest on the impressive waves of Wooli Bay.
Pippi Beach is an extensive stretch of white sand popular with surfers and fishermen. Annual surfing competitions take place in this picturesque bay, where the surf club provides lifeguards. Stroll along the flat, sandy surface of this picturesque bay and beachcomb for aquatic treasures in rock pools.
Bring food and drinks for a picnic and lay down a blanket on the sand. You can also enjoy a meal at one of the designated picnic tables. Relax amid the trees on the fairly wild, grassy area of Dolphin Park that straddles the back of the beach.
Work on your tan on a sun lounger in the hot summer and cool down with a refreshing dip in the crystal clear water of the Pacific Ocean. Join the surfers that hang out at this beach and ride the waves, which average a height of 5 feet (1.6 meters). The most important of the beach’s competitions is the Pippi Beach Surf Classic, which takes place in January every year. Bring binoculars to spot dolphins swimming alongside the surfers.
Walk to Yamba Point at the head of the peninsula at the northeastern end of the beach and clamber over the jagged rock formations. Snap photos of the dramatic coastline, with a backdrop of the ocean. The rock shelf here is a popular spot for fishing, as is the Flat Rock area on the southern end of the beach.
Stay at a cottage or other quaint lodging at the back of the beach with a view of the ocean. Lifeguards from the local surf club patrol the beach in summer. Note that dogs are allowed to walk off leash here.
Pippi Beach is on the southeastern side of the headland that protrudes from the eastern flank of Yamba and overlooks Wooli Bay. Reach the stretch of sand by bus. Visit nearby sights, such as Yamba Golf and Country Club, South Head Park and Hickey Island.
