Breakfast was really delicious and the girl who cooked it for us was very sweet!! The room did have cobwebs and they didn’t provide any shampoo, conditioner, or soap, which would’ve been nice to know. Overall good stay.
We didn’t read the fine print about the 6 pm check in time. We arrived after midnight. The proprietor was very kind and accommodating despite us having woken her up out of her sleep to check us in.
A wonderful bed and breakfast, staff was so accommodating. Totally enjoyed our overnight stay in Georgetown!

Overall ok, not great
Staff was friendly for sure, and breakfast was good, freshly made. The house had great charm, I appreciate the antiquity of it, the architecture. However, there are things that could be modernized, like the locks on the rooms and bathrooms. 2 of the 3 rooms I booked had increasingly uncomfortable and squeaky beds, no Kleenex in the rooms, the main bathroom we used had nothing to dry our hands after washing them. While the bedrooms were very hot, the hallways and main part of the B&B was freezing.
Emailed through their website and through hotels.com, but never got a response. Ended up changing my plans to arrive within the three hour check in. Nothing noted about how to get into the building, ended up having to look up the number and call. This was during check in hours. Staff was helpful, hotel was as expected for an older Victorian. Hot tub was very nice, but make sure you bring your key, or you will be locked out hoping a guest will let you back in.
We were upgraded to a suite and allowed late checkout so we could watch the football game.
The hosts were lovely. The decor was charming. We loved the American River Inn!
If you want to experience a Gold Rush Hotel, the American Inn is it! Authentic right down to the floorboards. The owner is super friendly and breakfast was world-class. I would definitely recommend staying here.
Every staff member was extremely welcoming and sweet. We loved our Library room, the decor theoughout the whole buidling was beautiful, and every second there was amazing!
We were bummed that the Hot Tube wasn't working. But other then that, all expectations were met. The Inn was well decorated. We enjoyed some time in the yard. Breakfast was delicious. Staff was friendly and accommodating.
This is a jewel we found for a birthday trip for my wife. It was like stepping into a piece of history. The decor was amazing. There was a sitting room downstairs where the hosts provided a wine and cheese reception. Breakfast at the big table in the morning was amazing. The room was comfortable and perfect for us. The staff was extremely friendly.
Everything was good or better Except no convenient area for pet relief. There is mo grass. Pet areas are dirt which is not good for them or carpets.
Overall great rooms: clean, comfortable and decently priced
I stayed at the Inn with my mother and we shared one of their twin rooms. From the moment I booked the reservation the Inn keeper was very corgal, she made sure we were taken care of, I needed to make sure we had a private bathroom, some of the rooms share bathrooms and I explained I was trave!ing with my mother and didnt want any suprises when she was utilizing the bathroom.
She was happy to reserve a twin with a private bath.
The breakfast for each morning, we stayed 3 nights, was a gormet breakfast and made me realize I missed the experience of staying in a B& B. I usually stay in Hiltons and most of the time the breakfast, when it is free , is nothing to right home about.
I would highly recommend staying at the historical Inn and will definitly return when I am in the area.
If you’re visiting Georgetown for its history, the American River Hotel is the perfect place to stay. A stunning building, with an interior to match. Every room is unique and charming. The owner/innkeeper and his mother are truly gracious hosts.

Great historical stay
Great historical stay with many interesting pieces inside. Staff was great and accommodating. Some slight disrepair in the bathroom, and the enclosed yard, which could be very enjoyable, was not well maintained, so did not present an environment to relax outside. Still a great and unique stay that harkens back to the old bed and breakfast.
