Playa La Cachora is one of the highlights near Todos Santos in Baja California Sur. It is a small section of sandy shoreline next to the Pacific Ocean, fulfilling the justified favorable reputation of Mexico’s beaches. Its beauty at any time of the day is outstanding. Being a beach with very few people increases its desirability. Plan a beach day at this location, where it’s not uncommon that you may only see a handful of people during your visit.
Access the wide beach by foot, bike or car from Todos Santos. The one-way journey from town is about 2 miles (3 kilometers), with parking available next to the beach. You may see others driving on the beach, for it is not illegal. However, it’s best to avoid this practice, as it is quite possible to get your vehicle stuck in the sand. Take water, snacks and an umbrella since the beach does not have services.
At certain times of the year, especially October through April, you can watch humpback and gray whales come close to shore. Watch for them to signal their presence with a gushing blow of air and water as they approach the surface. If you’re lucky, one will breach in front of you, rising fully out of the water and landing with a huge splash.
The surf is powerful in the area, making it popular with skim boarders. Swimming is not recommended on days when waves break at the shoreline and riptides are present. Walk south and you will come to another beach, Playa La Poza, also known as Las Pocitas. Here a freshwater lagoon offers excellent opportunities for bird watching.
Fish at La Cachora or La Poza or just enjoy some relaxing time of surf, sand and sun. Visit the restaurant located at Posada La Poza hotel near Playa La Poza. Such a magnificent beach as Playa La Cachora is definitely worth seeing, particularly when staying in the town of Todos Santos.
