The view from Kapinjala is majestic. Beautiful greenery and mountainous regions are visible well into the distance. The beach is also in view. The bedrooms are sufficiently appointed, but we would have appreciated a place to eat indoors. There was no indoor dining table or chairs to eat at the kitchen bar. If you like A/C, the heat in the main living areas will become unbearable at times (even with the doors ajar and all fans on). And if you are a group of 5 or more, you will not be able to find drivers with vehicles large enough and with enough horsepower to make the ascent. For all trips to and from the villa, you will have to order 2 cars/SUVs or have a minibus posted at the bottom gate, using a sedan or SUV to shuttle your party between the gate and villa. Of serious concern, we were unable to reach property management (PM) when we returned one night and the gate was not opening. We attempted to call PM 18 times and left at least 16 voice messages and received no reply that evening. Because my oldest had not joined the outing, we were able to call him to have him alert the security guard of our predicament. The guard did not, however, know how to activate the manual override and was also unable to reach PM. He did, however, reach Dennis, the groundskeeper, who provided some guidance. As per Dennis' suggestions and the acuity of our family friend who was returning us to the villa, we were able to get one half of the gate open. Our friend then risked scratching his car by maneuvering his vehicle through the now narrowed opening. With my husband having an early flight the next morning, and no taxi service similarly willing to risk damage to their vehicle, my husband, with the assistance of my sons, had to make the trek down to the bottom gate by foot (~250m with my oldest carrying luggage of nearly 50 pounds on his head). I am sick with the thought of what would have happened if anyone in my family would have required medical attention during this period. PM reached us later that morning, indicating that she went to bed early and had left her phone charging outside of her bedroom. Unacceptable. She was able to coordinate a service call from a provider who could open the gate in full by midday but that then meant that the security protections for which we were paying were not now in full effect. The housekeeper, Deneesia, was however highly responsive to our distress calls and likely the reason we received initial return phone call from PM.
