Snorkel, skimboard, jog, swim, beachcomb, wade in tidepools or simply sunbathe and enjoy the gorgeous scenery by day, watch a different spectacular sunset every evening and stargaze by night. The sound of the surf will lull you sleep in this home built on stilts, nestled in the greenbelt tree canopy - A great place to relax with window seats to view monkeys, birds and iguanas or take a siesta. If you want to experience the real Costa Rica look no further. This is "Pura Vida" defined! Get to know the local culture in Potrero, where you can practice your Spanish on friendly Ticos, join in a soccer game or hit the Farmer’s Market Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. There are 3 grocery stores and 3 restaurants within a 5 minute walk from the house. To the north is the Las Catalinas township where you can explore other beautiful beaches, enjoy a gourmet lunch, rent SUP boards, snorkeling equipment & mountain bikes to ride on their trails. One of our favourite places
We spent three weeks here this year, after spending about 10 days last year. We were so glad we went back as this is truly one of our favourite spots in the world, just a short walk to beautiful and quiet beaches, and surrounded by trees and wildlife including howler monkeys. We love being a little off the beaten track but still within walking distance of great restaurants and shops, and a short drive from bigger towns like Flamingo and Tamarindo. Melissa and Richard are perfect hosts.

Lovely house by the sea

Great house and great host
Great house in a wonderful location. Located a little away from the tourist areas it offers an amazing local feel. The beach is a short walk away and is quiet, more picturesque, and with far fewer people than other beaches in the area. The food at the local restaurants is amazing, the people are phenomenal, and the host is awesome! Book it, but dont tell too many people!

Wonderful Family Vacation
We had an incredible time during our stay! We had everything we needed and the proximity to the beach was fantastic. Our hosts were extremely helpful when we had a questions. The property was well maintained, and loved the back screened in porch. We would love to come back!

Amazing stay
We are very happy with our stay at Penca Beach guesthouse! Hosts went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable at their property. Lots of useful tips about local shops, restaurants and activities. After exploring the other beach towns we were so glad we chose Potrero, it was more authentic and not so busy yet had everything we were looking for - nice beach, farmers markets, decent local and international restaurants. Amazing Property
We stayed at a resort for a work event the first half of the trip and wanted a less touristy area for the second half. We got exactly what we wanted with this property! Penca Beach was a short walk to the end of the street and many restaurants at the other end. We enjoyed the back porch and loved listening to the wildlife.The owners and caretaker were very quick to communicate, yet we felt like we had the property to ourselves most of the time. What a wonderful visit. Would definitely recommend!

Perfect, stress-free retreat!
The location is perfect-easy walk to Playas Penca, Potrero and Prieta. The home is charming and elegant but very comfortable. We had everything we needed. Well equipped to cook in, but also within walking distance of restaurants, sodas and groceries. Melissa and Richard were perfect hosts - non-intrusive yet always available. Slice of Paradise
We wanted our first trip to Costa Rica away from the super touristy areas, this fit the bill. The house is nestled in the trees with monkeys and iguanas to watch almost daily. It is 150 yards from Playa Penca(a wonderful quiet beach) and close to restaurants, farmers markets, and small grocery stores. The house is well appointed with everything we needed for a week. Very clean with comfortable beds. Michelle and Richard were always available and quick to respond. The week was "Pura Vida".

Amazing! Stay here.
The property was safe, convenient, comfortable, and well appointed. It was perfect for a family of 5. The air conditioning was appreciated with outdoor temps in the mid 90’s. The beach had soft sand, crystal clear water, and fun waves to play in.

Wonderful experience!
Our family of 4 stayed here for 10 days in August. We loved the property and its close proximity to a beautiful and quiet beach, pretty towns, and a wide range of activities. Great location, beautiful home, super host.
Great location, we walked to the beach every morning and went for a swim. Beautiful home, fun watching the monkeys in the tree right outside the window. Super host, Melissa gave us great suggests for places to ride and restaurants to eat at. We had a great time.

Great Place
Melissa's place was our first stop in Costa Rica and it was the perfect place to get our bearings. Walking distance to groceries, beach, restaurants, gelato. Super clean and well stocked. Loved sitting in the closed in porch watching all the wildlife. Great place if traveling with kids.
