Charming 1866 schoolhouse in the heart of the County - free Sandbanks Pass

Our comfortable home offers 3 bedrooms, a full living room, bonus living space, a dining room and a well-stocked kitchen for 6 guests plus 3 additional children under 10.

The outside provides lots of room with a deck, fenced-in yard, large open back yard and fire-pit. The quiet rural setting is perfect for enjoying a glass of wine from one of the many local wineries or some quiet star-gazing.

A one-room schoolhouse from 1866 to 1966, let this home be your base for all the experiences the County has to offer.

The sunny front room with a wood pellet stove, pull-out couch and TV is the perfect entrance space with storage and a place to hang your coats. This room also makes a great work-from-home location as it is quiet and has a table which can double as a desk.

In the main part of the house, you'll discover a well-stocked kitchen ready to prepare your perfect meal. The dining room, which opens off the kitchen, features a beautiful large round dining table, ideal for celebrating with friends and family. The living room has lots of comfortable seating, a TV with streaming access and a wood pellet stove for those crisp Fall and Winter evenings. The main floor bedroom, with a queen bed and TV with a streaming device, is just off the living room for easy step-free access. The spacious bathroom is also on the main floor and is stocked with the essentials you'll need.

On the second floor, you'll find two more bedrooms, both with a queen bed. Each bedroom has duvets and premium cotton bedding for the perfect night's sleep. The master bedroom also offers a large TV and streaming device.

Since we are a rural property, there is plenty of quiet outdoor space to enjoy. A fenced deck and yard offer security for little ones and pets with easy access to the BBQ from the attached garage. There is also a large field behind the house with a fire pit.

You should be aware, we are currently putting in an above-ground pool with a large deck. Unfortunately, it's going much slower than we anticipated. As a consequence, there is some visual 'mess' (see the photo at the end of the photo gallery). Rest assured, it won't impact your ability to use the outdoor space and no construction will happen during your stay.

We provide you with one complimentary parking pass to Sandbanks Provincial Park to use during your stay. The park is a short 15-minute drive from the house.

You'll find all you need including air conditioning, washer and dryer, unlimited internet access, and a complimentary Flo charger for your electric vehicle.

Please note: our charges include nightly rental, a cleaning fee, plus HST and Municipal Accommodations Tax. All other 'fees' are those charged by the rental platform.

Thanksgiving in the County
We had an excellent stay at the Old Schoolhouse. The house was very well stocked with everything we could have wanted in the kitchen. We felt very welcomed into the home, including our furry friend who joined us, and we enjoyed the history of the place. The location encouraged us to explore parts of the County that we had not had the opportunity to see before.

Wish There Was An Option for Six Stars!!
This amazing home was all we wanted and more. We have stayed in many places but never had a warmer and more welcoming environment. Use of so many aspects of home (bikes, beach towels, dog bowls and treats...) was included and encouraged. Communication was timely, friendly, and supportive. We were so grateful to have such a wonderful home-away-from-home for our visit to Picton area. The many personal touches wowed us all. Can't wait to stay here again! Oh, and one more thing...we all commented on how amazing it was to have a host think of locating chargers/charging stations around the house. Just another example of a host who wanted guests to feel relaxed and happy! Thank you so much for sharing this interesting and comfortable space with us.

A Premier Property in the Heart of PEC!
Review of 8 School House Road We have been coming to Prince Edward County for summer holiday for over 20 years. Lodging has included camping (at Smuggler’s Cove) plus various cottages. We’ve greatly enjoyed all our visits, made lifelong friends and been pleased with all our accommodations. This year’s rental of the converted school house was the most enjoyable lodging and in a great location. Joanne has done a superb job of outfitting the house. The decor is “understated comfort” but more importantly it is extremely well stocked with everything one could need - just bring food! There’s plenty of room for most families. One evening we entertained four guests for appetizers and dinner - a wonderful, large, round dining room table was more than adequate. The kitchen is well appointed with enough cookware, dishes, cutlery, etc., to serve a large party. The bedrooms are comfortable with all linens, towels, etc., in abundance. My son and family came down from Toronto for a visit and the grandchildren loved being with us … and being spoiled! The grounds are spacious with a lovely deck, a fenced area for dogs (we brought two!) and additional field area where soccer, football, etc., could be enjoyed. I mentioned location - this place is QUIET! It’s far enough away from busy areas to be quiet and comfortable, but close enough for an easy drive into Milford, Cherry Valley or Picton. Wellington and Bloomfield are a bit further, but still an easy drive. Thank you so much, Joanne,

Loved our school house stay.
The host, Joanne, was very attentive in advance of our stay. On arrival, every welcoming touch you could imagine -made us feel well-taken-care-of and at home. Lovely cosy bedrooms, family size dining table, outdoor eating and seating area, quiet property. Even the dogs were left treats and equipment. I wish we could have stayed longer, but we hope to return.

Country oasis
We had an amazing weekend getaway. The place was better than the pictures showed in the ad! It was very clean, the beds were incredibly comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. The check in process was as easy as it could be and the instructions for everything was perfectly outlined for us. The one thing to note is that the air conditioning works great on the main level but it is quite warm upstairs. We had one fan but could have used a second for the other upstairs room. Overall, this place was exactly as we hoped it would be!

Beautiful property
A beautiful historic property lovingly maintained. We greatly enjoyed our five nights at this three bedroom property in November 2022. I enjoyed exploring the area on one of the provided bicycles. We also enjoyed building a fire, during a full moon, in the large outdoor fire pit. The beds are supremely comfortable and the antique toaster was impressive! We hope to return in 2023. Thank you Joanne for making our stay special. .

Joanne was a fantastic host, the house had everything you could need! The property is beautiful- especially for the dogs to run around in the backyard. It had both and enclosed area as well as a large open space for them to run. The house is so cute and cozy, we loved hanging out by the fireplace and just chatting. Overall I have only great things to say about our stay!

Nice comfy cottage
Enjoyed our stay in the county - cottage is in a great location, close to all kinds of places to visit and things to do. Very comfortable and homey. Only drawback is the location close to the highway and gravel road which had regular traffic. Otherwise, was a nice stay.

Historic and comfortable
The School House was a fantastic PEC stay! The house is comfortable and charming with every detail thought out for you. We travelled with our dog and the fenced yard and dog treats were truly appreciated. The beds were extremely comfortable. We also loved the framed historical stories of the schoolhouse and students. We would love to come back. The location is ideal- very close to sandbanks and Picton- but a bit off the busy roads.

Responsive host with well appointed home
I read the previous reviews prior to booking and re-read prior to posting my own review - they don't do justice to how wonderful Joanne is as a host and how well appointed this vacation home rental is for visitors. I stayed at the School House for three (3) nights and wish I could have stayed longer. The house is stocked and decorated like no other vacation home rental you will every experience. Joanne has considered every detail including those related to your dog. The kitchen has every physical item you could think of (e.g., tongs, colander, etc.). The bedrooms are cozy with wonderful linens - complete with towels rolled and waiting for you on the bed. The School House is a 15 - 20 minute ride from anything you want to do in the region. Loved Flame & Smith, Kinsip, Stock & Row, Bermuda, Grange, and Fifth Town This is definitely a home away from home, a must stay.

Friend's Getaway
We were very happy with our stay at the Schoolhouse. It was a comfortable and relaxing environment. The pellet stove fire places made the stay that much more enjoyable as did the Christmas lights and decorations. We plan this type of trip yearly and never have we been in a home that had EVERYTHING! Part of our weekend adventure was to make our own pasta. We forgot a rolling pin. The Schoolhouse had it! We didn't even think of bringing a strainer...the Schoolhouse had it. Tupperware for leftovers....the Schoolhouse had it! Extremely grateful to the owner for thinking of everything. Thank you so much for a lovely stay.

Charming cottage, peaceful location and wonderful owner
We really enjoyed our stay in this charming, thoughtfully decorated cottage. The kitchen was well stocked with quality cookware, utensils, etc and one could tell a great deal of thought and care has gone into designing this cottage for guests. The beds were very comfy,, each room had plenty of light and air and our children adored the huge yard and we loved the starry skies and quiet surroundings. Joanne went to great lengths to clean the cottage and it was tremendously helpful having that peace of mind in Covid times. We will return and would highly recommend this property to others.

Lovely stay, gracious host
My family and I really enjoyed our stay at The School House. So much so that we’re considering coming back in the Fall! The property feels homey and you can find *everything* you need for a wonderful trip to Prince Edward County - beach towels and umbrellas, sunscreen, bug spray and toiletries. Each outlet has a USB cord so you can charge your phone no matter where you are. There is a binder full of handy tips about the property and area. The host has truly thought of everything! Our only feedback was that the air conditioning on the first way is wonderful but it has trouble reaching the second floor which makes sleeping upstairs in the summer months a bit uncomfortable. There was a fan for the window but it was still quite humid and sticky. Overall we would certainly return to The Schoolhouse and suggest that you book with them as well!

Elegant & charming old schoolhouse countryside property
The schoolhouse is a beautiful property well-situated for all of the area activities but a quiet place to relax after a day at the beach. Large grounds with a vegetable garden, dining inside or out on the deck, watching the sunset & later stargazing before retiring to comfortable, well appointed bedrooms. A big plus was the pass to Sandbanks.
