Get around Punta del Diablo easily on foot. Its sand roads connect the village to the various beaches. Younger crowds frequent Playa de la Viuda, a breathtaking beach with powerful waves.
Explore the rocks at Playa de los Botes and spot colourful fishing boats trekking home with the day's load. Nearby, buy handmade trinkets and clothing at an artisanal market. Observe the area's fascinating ecosystem on a four-wheel-drive or boat tour at Estación Biológica Potrerillo de Santa Teresa. This biological reserve on the edge of a lagoon is home to otters, birds and the capybara, the world’s largest rodent.
As evening falls, head to the village beachfront for live music shows at bars and a seafood dinner sourced from the day's catch. The village has only one ATM so bring enough cash.
Punta del Diablo is at its most popular from Christmas to February. Even then, however, the stretching beaches and expansive nature reserves don't seem overcrowded or rushed.
