Excellent location and view
The hotel is in a prime Ramsgate location high up over the harbour; all front rooms have superb views.
The welcome was warm and we were shown to our room (22) on the third (top) floor. There was no information about the public areas either verbally or in-room, so we explored & found four charming downstairs rooms. There is an honesty bar where a tiny bottle of Peroni beer is charged at £6.50.
Our bedroom was small, as expected, but the mattress on the bed was supremely comfortable and the linen of high quality. However, the iron-frame headboard required two pillows to be stacked up to rest against, and the duvet was too thick for summer. We had to sleep with it half on & half off even with 15C outdoor overnight temperature and the window open.
It's the little touches that make or break a stay at a small, high-end b&b as it's never going to compete with a full-service hotel on facilities. Unfortunately, this is where the Royal Harbour Hotel fell down:
- No fan (essential here!) in room;
- No hand towel in bathroom, just two no-longer-fluffy bath towels and a floor towel/mat;
- Soap scum not fully cleaned off sink;
- One chair only with small hole in seat fabric, not the armchair shown in photo;
- No box of tissues;
- Photo of our room shows a coffee maker, two mugs, two cups & two glasses on the hospitality tray, but all we had of those were instant coffee and two small cups without any saucers or teaspoons.
None of this was worth making a fuss over but it did detract.
