I was interested in this property because of the owners support of veterans. We plan a trip with my wife’s family to northern Maine to snowmobile every year and we have navy, marines, and guard in our group, so this was a great way to give back to other veterans.
We’ve stayed all over Rangeley and this Rangeley plantation home exceeded our expectations. Spacious and inviting with amazing views from just about every toom in the house! There’s three living spaces all equipped with flatscreen TVs and a abundance of board games and activities. You could sleep 20 people in this place comfortably, so for our group of 7 it was a lot more then we needed, but we loved it. We made a point to hang out in every living room and enjoyed all the spaces in the home.
Large open fully stocked kitchen with new appliances, stone counters, and nice finishes made it a really nice place for everyone to hang out while preparing meals. We prepared all of our meals in the kitchen. It was awesome to cook with all 7 of us working together, laughing, having a great time and not stumbling over each other
We rented snowmobiles from Dockside Sports Center which is 2 minutes away by car. The owner set us up with two newer sleds and he was very nice; he has been there renting machines in Rangeley for 28 years I think he said. He had helmets, gear, and some good stories, it was perfect. The snowmobile trail that goes from the rental shop back to the house is a 10minute ride by sled
Leaving the house by sled is a quick ride down the side of a dirt road directly across from the end of the homes driveway. Then you are on the ITS trail and can ride to the lake for fast access to gas/Rangeley center, or take the trail anywhere. Trail conditions were good-great and we had lunch in Oquossoc At Portage Tap House, the food was good and the service was great. There was 6 in our group and we took it slow, the trip was a couple hours total. This homes location is perfect for new riders, it gives you good destination options that aren’t too far but also aren’t too close.
The front yard is a snowmobile playground. I had a lot of fun doing figure eights, and then digging the newbies out of snow trenches they got stuck in! Always a plus when you can ride on the property and let the new riders get comfortable on the machine before going out on the trails.
If you’re looking for a place that has it all, this is it. We’re already planning our next stay at this property.
