Chez Mathilde in Rarécourt

Our cottage is an independent accommodation part of our typical Lorraine house dating from the 17th century that we have restored keeping its old appearance with touches of modernity, on the edge of the Argonne forest and near Verdun. You can walk in the forest, listen to the birds, see a hare, a deer or other animals, fish in the river, go to the sites of the 1st World War Verdun: Douaumont, Vauquois. We are not very far from the champagne cellars (Reims, Epernay ...). Metz and Nancy. You can taste our little local wine, fresh eggs from the neighbor, homemade jams, Mirabelle brandy and many other specialties. We have a site you can consult. the surface of my cottage is around 85 m2 with a courtyard where there is the possibility of having meals with a barbecue and comfortable seats. There is a cot with all the equipment for the little ones; in the kitchen there is a dishwasher and washing machine and coffee maker, toaster, induction hob etc .....

A lovely gîte
We had a wonderful holiday at this charming property.It’s a great location for exploring the Verdun battlefield area .It’s within minutes of the A4 autoroute so it’s easy to get about and access. Supermarket and fuel very nearby too. Our host Madame Annie, is simply wonderful. She made us feel very welcome and gave us gifts of her wonderful produce. Thank you Madame Annie.

Delightful property, convenient for Verdun
A really great find. Lovely traditional gite in a delightful quiet rural village. Friendly and helpful host always available (even brought us a lovely tray of desserts), small boulangerie in the village within 3 minute walk. Excellent location to explore World War One history, only about a 20 minute drive to Verdun and it’s numerous sites of interest.

L’Argonne
We arrived expecting to learn more about the Great War but left having experienced so much more. Great area of beauty and historical interest. Our host was very helpful and provided us with a taste of the regional cuisine and hospitality that was above all expectations. The gite was full of character and the location very quiet and friendly. A great time was had.

Charming
"Chez Mathilde" is a charming old quaint building in the centre of Rarecourt. It has been excellently renovated whilst retaining a lot of its original features and character. It is very comfortably furnished and well presented with everything you need for your stay. It is well situated to visit the beautiful Argonne region and beyond.

Great rustic get away
Our host was excellent. We turned up quite late with no food and they arranged a booking at a nearby restaurant after trying several others that were already closed. To top thst off they provided milk and tea after we arrived that was enough to get us going the next morning. Location was good and central to WW1 and WW2 sites and an easy day trip to Luxembourg. Absolutely loved the very olde world building and decor. Plenty of room with well equipped kitchen. David

Excellent!
We stayed at Chez Mathilde for a week in June. The cottage is divine. Loads of room, with lovely period features of the 17th century property. Annie lives next door and was so very welcoming to us even though we speak no French. Annie's daughter however lives in the property the other side of cottage and she speaks fluent English and was so helpful to us with advising places to visit. The cottage is well equipped with everything you will need and also has a nice courtyard garden which was lovely to spend time to eat meals and relax. The area of Rarecourt is very peaceful with the only real sound being the chiming clock of the nearby church. Verdun itself is a lovely place with many cafes and restaurants beside the river. It is also only a short drive to many WW1 sites. My advice would be to not spend all your time on the heavily advertised main attractions. There is so much more in the area that will not have the obligatory coach parties turning up to. I would recommend the butte de vauquois, le main de massiges (both of which are free to enter) and the privately owned 14-18 museum at Romagne-sous-montfaucon. This cottage is a perfect find in a lovely area. Many thanks for a wonderful stay.

Extrem erholsam
Wir hatten zu Fünft einen wunderbaren Aufenthalt in dieser tollen und extrem liebevoll eingerichteten Wohnung. Leider gibt es vor Ort keinen Bäcker mehr und für unsere Teenager war die Umgebung uninteressant. Annie hat uns mit ihren Köstlichkeiten total verwöhnt. Super Ort zum Entschleunigen!

Ruhe und Herzlichkeit
Am Anreisetag würden wir sehr herzlich von Annie begrüßt. Das Ferienhaus wirkt kleiner als es tatsächlich ist. Wir haben die Ruhe sehr genossen. Sehr viel Zeit haben wir auf der kleinen Terrasse verbracht. Die Vermieterin wohnt gleich daneben und hat uns mit Dessert und einer Quiche verwöhnt. Es kamen auch öfters Katzen zu Besuch, die aber nie das Gebäude betreten haben bzw. nie aufdringlich waren. Das ist ein Unikat was Möbel und Interieur angeht, es ist mit viel Liebe eingerichtet. Die Umgebung ist sehr geschichtsträchtig. Ein Bolzplatz ist auch in der Nähe. Wer Ruhe, Geschichte und Herzlichkeit sucht, wird hier fündig.

Ein wunderschöner Urlaub
Wir haben die Zeit bei "Chez Mathilde" unglaublich genossen. Das Haus ist was sehr besonderes, gemütlich und hat alles was man braucht. Doch all das wäre nicht das Gleiche, wenn nicht Annie, die Gastgeberin, wäre. Sie ist einfach herzlich und unterstützt einen wo sie kann. Ganz großes Dankeschön.

Ein zauberhaftes Haus und himmlische Ruhe zum Jahreswechsel
Wir haben hier eine rundum schöne Zeit verbracht, es war einfach alles perfekt: Der herzliche Empfang durch unsere Gastgeberin, die gemütliche, liebevolle Einrichtung des alten Hauses, die Ausstattung, die es uns an nichts fehlen ließ und die himmlische nächtliche Ruhe, die für erholsamen Schlaf sorgte. Wir waren ganz verzaubert von dem Haus mit seinen vielen Balken, der kuscheligen Schlafnische und den vielen kleinen Details, die den Charme des alten Gemäuers noch unterstrichen. Und nicht zu vergessen der Kamin, der abends so wohlige Wärme verbreitet hat. Das Dorf ist klein und hübsch und wunderbar ruhig, von hier aus kann man zu Fuß viele Spaziergänge und Wanderungen unternehmen und ohne weit fahren zu müssen die geschichtsträchtige Gegend erkunden. Oder Landschaft und Natur genießen. Morgens kann man schnell um die Ecke in die Mini-Bäckerei gehen, um sich Baguette und Croissants zu besorgen. Auch ein kleiner Supermarkt ist nur ein paar Kilometer entfernt. Es ist ein Ort zum Wohlfühlen, den wir gerne weiterempfehlen! Vielen Dank liebe Annie, für die wunderschöne Zeit in Ihrem Haus und für all die leckeren Dinge, die wir bei Ihnen kosten durften.

Geweldige plek
Wat een geweldige leuke plek om te verblijven, het leek een beetje op een museum want er was veel te zien, Het huisje was heel compleet, echt alles was aanwezig! Goede bedden en een leuk klein terrasje! Ook was er veel informatie over het dorp en de omgeving. De gastvrouw is een hele vriendelijke vrouw die alles voor je wil doen. Ze kwam mij 2 keer een heerlijk dessert brengen, en op mijn laatste dag een geweldig lekkere Quiche Lorraine!! Ik ga zeker nog een keer terug, ik ben in de omgeving nog lang niet uitgekeken!

Un petit coin de tranquillité
Un immense merci à Annie pour son accueil, sa disponibilité, ses bons petits plats et son sourire. Nous avons passé un excellent séjour. Le gîte est situé de telle sorte que Reims, Épernay, Verdun, Châlons, Troyes, Metz....ne sont pas très loin. Et il y a de quoi faire en randonnée et vélo dans la forêt d'Argonne. Je recommande vivement.

Wunderschöner Urlaub
Wir hatten einen wundervollen Urlaub in dem historischen Ferienhaus, welches sehr liebevoll eingerichtet wurde. Es war alles vorhanden, was man braucht. Uns hat es an nichts gefehlt. Die Vermieterin Annie war sehr freundlich, ein richtiger Sonnenschein. Sie hat uns mit tollen Desserts und leckerer Quiche bewirtet und hatte stets ein nettes Wort für uns. Das Dorf und die gesamte Umgebung sind sehr ruhig, was für unsere Erholung super ist. Um größere Städte zu erreichen musste man etwas fahren. Nancy, Metz, Reims und Verdun haben viel Sehenswertes zu bieten. Der Meuse TGV Bahnhof, der ca eine halbe Stunde entfernt liegt, bietet die Möglichkeit in einer Stunde in Paris oder Straßburg zu sein. Der kleine Bäckerladen im Dorf hatte leckere Baguettes und sonntags Brioche. So war unser Frühstück gesichert. Wir würden jederzeit wieder dort Urlaub machen. Es war sehr schön.

Viel Stil in "France rural"
Mme. Annie hat das schönste "Reihenhaus" in Frankreich. Und das Märchen ist tatsächlich so, wie es die Fotos zeigen! Liebevoll ausgestattet. Unglaubliche Sammlung an Inventar und noch mehr Details. Idealer Rückzugsort und "Etappe" im französischen "Grand Est", durchaus nicht nur für Militärhistoriker rund um Verdun. Auch wenn die Wege weit sind. Die kleinen Straßen durch Frankreichs "Mittleren Westen" sind ein Genuss. Originell, aber sehr praktisch eingerichtet, Bäcker am Ort!! im kleinen Dorf Rarecourt, wundervolle winzige Terrasse - und immer wieder Neues zu entdecken. Im Haus und drumherum. Wir danken Mme. Annie für ihre ganz persönliche Quiche Loraine, das Johannisbeerdessert und ihre unvergleichliche und doch diskerete Freundlichkeit! Und dafür, dass sie uns aufgenommen hat. Es war unsein Vergnügen und unvergleichlich fabelhaft. Und so ist das auch gemeint.

Vakantie
We hebben het heerlijk gehad. Wat een lieve gastvrouw, die ons verwende met zelfgemaakte jams en een heerlijk dessert. Het huis ademt zoveel sfeer en geschiedenis, fantastisch! We hebben genoten van de rust en de stilte in het dorp en uitstapjes in de prachtige omgeving van Rarécourt gemaakt. We komen in september zeker terug.
