We loved the friendly little village of Volastra and this charming B & B. It was an excellent location for visiting Cinque Terre, especially since we had a car, and parking was not a problem here. Everything was very clean. There was plenty of hot water for our showers. The bed was comfortable. WiFi worked just fine. We were able to have breakfast on the terrace the first morning, and the view is just like in the photo! At night we were able to stargaze from the terrace, and it was beautiful! It was raining the other 2 mornings, and Donatella served a very pleasant breakfast in the kitchen. We had meant to arrive with plenty of daylight, but that didn't happen, so we had a little difficulty finding the building in the dark, but a friendly neighbor took us right to the front door. There is a trail connecting Volastra to Manarola, which is one of the famed Cinque Terre towns, but we never got around to taking it. The upper trail through Cinque Terre also runs right through Volastra. Donatella had told us some of the most spectacular views were on that upper trail from Volastra to Corniglia, so we had to try it. We were not disappointed and could not stop taking photos! The first part went through vineyards and olive groves, then through some woods. There were some steep slopes, but the hike into Corniglia was worth it. After lunch, we hiked up and down from Corniglia to Vernazza, where we had delicious pine-nut flavored gelato! At the end of the day, it was easy to catch the bus from Vernazza back to Volastra. On our second day, we drove into Riomaggiore, and from there we took the train to Manarola and Monterosso, so we got to visit all 5 towns in 2 days. We will recommend this B&B to everyone we know who is thinking of visiting Cinque Terre - it is a great location whether you have a car or want to take public transportation, and it is away from the crowds! Grazie e ciao, Donatella!
