Celebrate the diversity of art from across the world in this intriguing and comprehensive collection put together by an American traveler.

The Robert Brady Museum contains the fascinating collection of its namesake American patron of the arts. The array of art comprises more than 1,300 works, including paintings, sculptures and handicrafts from across the globe. Get a sense of the world’s art scenes by browsing this varied collection in the colorful rooms of the house where Brady lived.

The works are spread throughout the collector’s former home, including the bedroom and living room. Make your way through this dynamic house museum to see the pieces of acclaimed artists, such as Francisco Toledo, Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo.

Other notable artists include Jose Guadalupe Posadas, María Izquierdo and Miguel Covarrubias. Admire the works of art by the collector Robert Brady himself, including a near life-size portrait of his friend and fellow art patron Peggy Guggenheim.

The collection is purposeful in its avoidance of showcasing trends and schools, instead displaying works of art from across the world. Inspect the examples of Mexican feather art and exotic Persian rugs. See colonial oil canvases from Peru and African masks and figures. Examine mosaic works from Italy and Puerto Rican sculptures of Christ.

Relax in the picturesque gardens to enjoy a sunny day. There is a swimming pool, but it is off-limits to visitors. Enjoy refreshments in the complex’s café. Check the site’s schedule to see if any films are being shown in the museum’s courtyard during your time in Cuernavaca.

Learn about the museum’s namesake patron, who traveled the world collecting art for this lavish mansion gallery. The building in which he lived is known as the Casa de la Torre and was initially part of the cathedral monastery.

There is a fee to access the museum, which opens Tuesday through Sunday from morning until early evening.

The Robert Brady Museum is in the southern part of the historical center of Cuernavaca, just south of the Cuernavaca Cathedral. Walk north for 10 minutes from the Pullman Central Bus Station to get here. See other landmarks in the area, such as the Parque Jardín Revolución and the Borda Garden.
