Winter Park in Central Florida is where you’ll find the Cornell Fine Arts Museum on the Rollins College campus. This is the only teaching museum in the Orlando area and is an important element of the college’s liberal arts program. Enjoy various works of art encompassing a broad time frame from antiquity to contemporary, while also challenging your mind with its eclectic collection.
As a teaching museum the site is used as an extension to the classroom. Students and their teachers are often seen analyzing and comparing works of art. It’s also a community museum for the public to self-interpret and appreciate the various art styles over many generations and from a variety of cultures. Opened in 1978, the museum has continued to expand its collection to its current holdings of more than 5,500 objects. Meander among the pieces at your leisure or take an informative guided tour.
Find out if any art lectures or visits by artists will be on the schedule during your time at the museum. The collection extends outside the museum to the Alfond Inn down the street, which is also owned by Rollins College. The gift shop in the museum has a diverse array of merchandise inspired by permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as many fair trade products.
The museum’s education gallery helps people of all ages discover art through interactive engagement. Gallery sections include various drawing tours for children and adults, a still-life station, building with blocks and designing your own museum. Find out if a family day event of organized special activities will be held during your stay in Winter Park.
Cornell Fine Arts Museum has free admission, which includes tours and events. Donations are gratefully accepted and new memberships are welcome. Find the museum along Holt Avenue on the Rollins College campus. It’s closed on Mondays, including the museum shop.
