River Watch- Riverfront House on the Cheat River WaterTrail

River Watch is a riverfront two story home on the banks of the Cheat River in Macomber, WV. River Watch is on the Cheat River Water Trail, which runs from Hendricks, WV to Rowlesburg, WV.. This part of the Cheat River is a gentle section of the river, safe enough for beginning paddlers with kayaks, canoes, paddle boards or rafts, which winds through some of the most beautiful country in W.Va. The house has three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a modern open floor plan combining kitchen and living room. River Watch also has decks around the entire house with a privacy deck below to watch the river and wildlife, there is also an outside shower. It also has a full basement garage, with washer, dryer and beverage fridge. There is approx. 1 acre of yard and 150' of river frontage. There is also a takeout for paddlers right in front of the house.
Centrally located in the Potomac Highlands, River Watch is 35 minutes from Thomas/Davis/Blackwater Falls, 30 minutes from the Wisp Ski Resort,45 minutes from Timberline Ski Resort,25 minutes from Oakland MD, 10 minutes from Cathedral State Park.
For all it's convenience however, River Watch is all about the Cheat River. There are multiple floats and shuttles close to River Watch, with two outfitters Blackwater Outdoor Adventures in St. George is just 15 minutes away and offers equipment rentals and shuttles. Cheat River Trips is located behind the River View Lounge, 1/4 mile down the road form River Watch and offers equipment rentals and shuttles also.

Great weekend get-a-way
The home has amazing views right on the river and is extremely peaceful. It’s a great retreat away from everyday busy life. This is our third year in a row staying at this property and will continue to make it an annual event. I had to contact the host during our stay and he got back to me immediately and even contacted the next door neighbor to check local conditions for us.

Beautiful location and grounds. Really enjoyed the morning coffee by the river. The property was very clean and fairly spacious. kitchen was stocked with paper towels, spices, and coffee. 35 minute drive to Canaan, Valley, and neighboring towns. Also enjoyed the chestnut festival in Rowlsburg. Furniture was a little bit dated but very functional. water pressure was a little bit low but overall a great place for a weekend getaway!

My daughters and I experienced a lovely, peaceful cabin in WVa. There was plenty to do and we slept soundly! The kitchen was reasonably supplied and the cabin clean. When we first arrived the ladybugs had invaded the back bedroom, so we closed the door and stuffed the bottom of the entrance with a towel. The only other glitch was the smoke alarm going off when we used the oven.

Lovely home, beautiful views. So peaceful and quiet. Bought stuff for a blender but there wasn't one. Rocking chair in living room is missing screws. (Not usable) Besides that no complaints. We absolutely loved it. Just for informational purposes the water pressure in the showers are low but do the job. Also bring bug spray for mosquitoes. The fireflies at night are amazing! Also the people in town are friendly. Shout out to Ron and Kieth at the boat/ kayak rentals. Very accommodating. We would definitely do it again.

Relaxing rental!
The rental overall was perfect. We had everything we needed plus some. The neighbor was super friendly with us also. The deck is amazing with the views and super relaxing. The only downfalls being the weather wasn’t the greatest so we were limited to the cabin due to there not being too much in the area and the water pressure/temp was not the best. Overall though the rental was perfect when we were able to use the River. We’d definitely visit this rental again!

We loved River Watch! Even though we were just about all sick during our stay, I told my husband I'd rather be sick there watching the river than at home! Had everything we needed for our Thanksgiving meal and loved the views, ducks, deer and location! We've talked about returning in the summer so we can enjoy the river!

A dream away from home.
Of all the places I have stayed at over the years, this one stands out. Rex has an incredible house. Inside is cozy, plenty of counter space. Me, I am an outside guy. Rex has an oversized firepit that is awesome! But the view on the river is out of this world. His deck is a wrap around with a lower deck for shade and relaxing. I can not say enough about this home. You will be amazed. Can't say thanks to Rex enough. Great time!

We had a nice time at Riverwatch. It was a cute property. The view of the river and mountain was great. It was a nice place to get away to. But with an infant and a 10 year old there wasn't really a whole lot to do locally. But would definitely be great with a group of friends and grille and just enjoy the location. If you enjoy kayaking it would be a great place. May definitely look into going back just my husband and I in warmer weather. Rex was really quick with responding and ready to help with any questions we had. Check in was also super easy. Beds were comfortable and the place was clean. Some very pretty mountain areas around to drive and check out.

Great riverside experience
This house is well kept, clean , well stocked, and cozy. There are fishing art on the wall, if you’re a fisherman you gonna love it. I was raining the first two day during our stay, but can see the fog rising from valley which was stunning. I didn’t catch any bass but I did managed to catch a 10 lbs catfish. The only thing is if you have young kids they might feel not much to do, as the access to river is a little cliffy. Overall it is a great house to enjoy the end of our summer.
