Beautiful, Spacious Historic Victorian Near Ski Liberty

Enjoy the luxury and serene Blue Ridge Summit mountain area in our all-season vacation rental house, close to Ski Liberty Mountain and Camp David, a turn of the century Maryland Victorian house in Cascade, Maryland. This stately 5 bedroom, 2½ bath, later-style Victorian home was built in 1910. It is historic, and has been recently renovated with modern amenities.

This house is a fabulous getaway all year round. Enjoy the cozy fireplace atmosphere during the Fall and Winter and relax in the wicker furniture and wrap around porch in the Spring and Summer. Both bathrooms on the second floor have claw foot tubs, with shower enclosures. Enjoy the serene and private environment with almost 2 peaceful, secluded acres. This home is also great for entertaining. On the first floor, it boasts a newly renovated gourmet kitchen with new cabinets, granite counters, and modern amenities, a renovated half bathroom with marble floor, in addition to the very large living room and dining room with Arts and Crafts style windows and newly finished mahogany hardwood floors throughout the first and second floor. The spacious 5 bedrooms accommodate 12 persons very comfortably. There is also a pull out couch in living room.

We rent this home to nature, ski, or history enthusiasts. In addition to the nearby mountains and areas for skiing, hand gliding, hiking, golfing, biking, fishing, canoeing, golfing, swimming, and sight seeing, there are multiple historic areas to visit. If nature is what you like, it does not get any better than this. If you are a skier, the Liberty Mountain Resort is only 8 miles away in Pennsylvania and 20 minutes from Whitetail mountain. This home is also close to Cunningham Falls Maryland State Lake and Park (5000 acres of parkland), Catoctin Mountain National Park (25 miles of hiking trails), Penn Mar State Park, and is just minutes from the High Rock overlook and the home of the Presidential Retreat, Camp David. The countryside and mountain views in this area are outstanding. Stay in one of the most rustic, mountain areas of the east coast, just one hour from the DC and Baltimore areas. If nature is not what you are looking for, there are also shopping centers, antique shops, and movie theaters nearby. You can also sightsee at places like Emmitsburg, Gettysburg, Harper’s Ferry, or one of many other Civil War locations, such as Battle of Monterey historic sites nearby.

This home is well situated off the beaten path, ½ mile off Route 550 on Rowland Hill Road. Pennsylvania is only steps away from Route 550 up the mountain. The town of Cascade is close by with a local grocery store to serve your needs. Several restaurants, including, the Carriage House in Emmitsburg (8 miles away) and several restaurants in Waynesboro (6 minutes away), and Frederick (20 minutes away) offer the finest menus in the area. The Blue Ridge Summit mountain area has been, and still is, a common vacation area and get away of persons/families wanting a getaway from the Washington/Baltimore and other city areas. Presidents since Dwight Eisenhower have vacationed near this house, at Camp David, and families have vacationed in the Blue Ridge Summit area for decades.

If you are looking for a back to nature, weekend get away, a retreat or out of town event, a week’s vacation or a month if needed, let us know. We will attempt to accommodate your needs. This is a perfect retreat for one or more families or for those who want a getaway. We are about an hour from the DC and Baltimore areas, and only 20 minutes north from Frederick, Maryland and east (6 minutes) of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania and southeast (20 minutes) of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

Absolute Lovely!
This was a wonderful place to stay! The outside was a bit deceiving (except the porch). The inside was exceptional! We will be hoping to stay here again for sure!!!

Older but very nice house
Everything was great but the TV definitely needs to be upgraded. WAY too small for that size of a room.

Overabundance of Charm and Space
There were 12 of us staying in this charming historic house. We never felt crowded - ample beds and seating for all. This place is soooo well-stocked. Plenty of linens, spices, aluminum foil, dishes, cookware, etc. I could not have asked for a better place. If you love historic homes, you will be wowed by this one. We will definitely stay again when we return to Gettysburg. Thank you!

Framily weekend trip
We had a wonderful stay at Marianne‘s house. There was enough room for all 10 of us to have time together, as well as our own spaces to talk, read, play games, etc. We were 13 minutes from liberty mountain, and spent one of the days on the slopes. An easy drive to and from made it easy for the teens to head back out for night skiing. The house was spacious and beautiful. A lot of attention to detail has been given to restoring a beautiful architectural details. The kitchen had everything we needed. If we had a longer stay, or came in another season, we would’ve definitely made use of the outside of the property. The way the front porch looks inviting for sitting and chatting on warm evenings. We look forward to coming back in the future.

Fall Retreat
The owner was great. Very communicative and welcoming. Very cool, old house (1910) that was plenty spacious for seven of us (there were supposed to be nine; the other two would’ve fit just fine). Kitchen was very well stocked with everything needed for food prep, etc. The house was incredibly clean. Porch furniture was a little worn/dirty (it’s on a porch, after all), so sitting on the amazing porch enjoying the sights and sounds of the country, wasn’t as feasible as it might have been otherwise (not a complaint- I sat out there anyway;-) We’d definitely come back.

Most well stocked rental we’ve ever stayed at!
We all commented all weekend that this was the most thoughtfully stocked and set up home rental we’ve ever stayed in. The house is gorgeous and huge—more than enough space for 3 families with kids. Kids loved playing in the yard and the vibe is a scoooooch haunted/spooky, which the kids also loved.

Great place for a nice quiet weekend away
Marianne was an amazing host! She was very helpful in adjusting our stay and taking care of a few issues we had getting the reservation set up. The home was spacious and well supplied with anything we needed during our stay. Yes, there are some dated items in the house but it adds to the charm. I mean it was built in 1910 and is still in great shape! The large front porch was a hit for my group as we spent every evening conversing out there before we headed to bed.

Adequate lodging but…
Wonderful historic home with a grand spacious layout. The kitchen seemed to be the only updated room since the early 1900s. The veranda could have been a gracious place to rest but the furniture was rickety & dirty. Outside is overgrown and sort of creepy with visions of a beautiful yesteryear. The bedrooms are big and gracious and beds were adequate. Sheets were old and worn. Closets full of the ghosts of the past (and dust). Bathrooms ancient and need desperately to be brought into the 21st century. While claw foot tubs are quaint… the shower curtain surround clung to your hips & arms. (Hopefully it is replaced w each new guest.) Tv only gets a couple channels which was fine b c we spent more time chatting abt what the old house needed and our ‘home construction family’ mentally remodeled the whole place. This grand & creaky old old home was beautiful in its day but sadly in disrepair. The one thing that could have been easily remedied was the dust & cobwebs… in all the forgotten spots. Thick dust under the tubs, covering the mirrors… cobwebs shown across the walls & magnificent wood moldings in the glorious morning light. Btw don’t plan on using the early model iron unless you want to ruin your cloths … we should have donated the new one we had to go buy. Overall it was an interesting place to hang our hat for a few nights stay… enjoyed the conference with family near. The fellowship greatly improved our experience. But… this place needs some serious work.
