Our home is located in the sea village of Las Croabas on the far left Northeast side of Puerto Rico roughly 45 minutes by car from San Juan Airport. Our neighborhood is the Cabezes of Los Croabas and our neighbors are wonderful people. Most of them speak English. They are all friendly and kind.
This interior barrio area of Fajardo was given to the residents 45 years ago. It is currently changing ownership one house at a time and going through gentrification slowly. Some of the residents are very poor and there are some abandoned houses. However, our neighbors are wonderful people and walking around Los Croabas is as safe as any other place in Puerto Rico. It's a vacation destination for Puerto Rican residents.
We had the entire house remodeled with full windows and air conditioning in every room. It's now full of light and updated to give our guests a feeling of being at home at the ocean. There are two private residences that can be rented together as a 5 bedroom, 4 bath rental or the top floor can be rented separately as a 3 bedroom, 2 bath rental. The house is a fabulous place for large family gatherings or for a group of great friends to get together to chill. There is a great deck on the third floor with a gorgeous view of the ocean with beautiful sunrises and a great deck out back to visit as the sun goes down.
Each kitchen is fully equipped for the greatest of cooks, with microwaves, gas stoves and refrigerators in each unit. There is a full laundry room with washer/dryer downstairs accessible to both units. The garage can accommodate a large vehicle and is secure. The furnishings are nice, updated, and inviting. Both units have internet TV or Chromecast and DVD's but you'll be too tired for TV. We also have a very extensive library in both units for those wishing to read a little while they relax. We are scuba divers so we have rinse tanks and places to dry gear and store it securely.
All the beds are I-Comfort, Sealy Posturepedic or Stearns and Foster with luxury linens with down pillows. We take sleeping comfortably very serious.
Las Croabas is famous for the Bioluminescent Bay. Our home sits right above the Bio-bay. We are 5 minutes from Seven Seas Beach and 5 minutes from the Las Croabas Marina where you can catch a water taxi to Icacos Island which is a beautiful white sand paradise rarely seen by tourists. In Las Croabas you have access to great restaurants, a small amount of shopping, bars, and even dancing Th-Sat. We even have The Vistas, a great breakfast restaurant in our neighborhood that serves fabulous food every morning during the high season and every weekend throughout the year. You can walk there from our home.
For the fitness buff, running in our neighborhood is great because of the loop with the beach and the hills can be a great challenge. Renting kayaks and paddleboards at Seven Seas Beach can keep those abs in shape. And for the speed demons, they do have jet skis. Seven Seas beach is also home to the Nature Reserve where you can hike to the Lighthouse. It’s a wonderful hike with great views.
15 minutes from our home is Fajardo where you can buy just about anything you need with pharmacies, grocery stores, Walmart, etc. The ferry to Culebra or Vieques can be boarded in Ceiba where you can see some of the most beautiful and clean beaches you have ever visited. Ceiba is about 15 minutes from the house where you can also use the regional airport to go to Culebra, Vieques, or the US Virgin Islands . Just before the airport is one of the largest marinas in the Caribbean and It’s first class. This is where you can catch sailboat excursions, schedule scuba diving, party boats to neighboring islands, and sunset and booze cruises of all kinds.
20 minutes towards San Juan is Luquillo Beach and the Kiosks where there are shops, bars, music, and food of all kinds. You can spend an entire day here. El Yunque Rain Forest is just beyond Luqillo where you can swim in the refreshing waterfalls, eat at roadside kiosks, take hikes and grab a zip line for some adventure. And of course, Old San Juan, Isla Verde, and Condado Beach with all its casinos cannot be missed which is less than an hour away and easy to get to.
If you’re looking to experience a resort atmosphere where parties and waiters with drinks in hand are readily available, our home is not for you. However, if you like to spend quality time with friends or family, experience a little local culture, relax in the cool breeze while enjoying a great cup of coffee and a sunrise, enjoy some beaches and have more to do than you will have time for, then please BE OUR GUEST. We will be happy to have you and we will recommend people for you to use if you’d like to visit any of these places.
*******We must inform you about the utility infrastructure in Puerto Rico. It is not as modern as one might expect. The electrical grid, burdened by new technology and air conditioning, often becomes overloaded, leading to frequent power outages. An overhaul is underway, and the island is transitioning to a solar grid system for backup. The water system, too, is in disarray, with disruptions occurring at least once a week, though they are typically brief. Our house is equipped with over eight gallons of emergency drinking water and a 1,000-gallon cistern with a pump, operational when there is power. Additionally, we store two 55-gallon barrels of water for rinsing dive equipment, which can also be used for flushing toilets, washing dishes, and bathing in emergencies. Our stove is propane-fueled, ensuring your friends and family don't go without food if restaurants are closed. Manual lighting of the stove with a lighter is necessary during power outages. We have taken extensive precautions to prevent these issues from spoiling your vacation. It is rare for the entire island to be without water or power simultaneously, so you can still enjoy your holiday, and issues are often resolved by the time you return to the house. Consequently, as these circumstances are beyond our control, we cannot offer refunds for interruptions in power or water services. We also advise all guests to consider the Caribbean weather before booking their trip. We are unable to provide refunds in the event of a hurricane, and currently, the generator at the home is not safe for guest use. While most tropical storms do not become hurricanes until they pass Puerto Rico, we have experienced two major hurricanes in the last 30 years. Our concrete house, equipped with hurricane-rated windows, ensures your safety even during power outages. Situated on a hill, the property is safe from flooding. In the event of a hurricane that extends your stay, we will do so at no extra charge. If an evacuation order is issued, VRBO and Villa Turquesa will work to refund any unused portion of your stay. ***********
