"Stayed here so I can go to the airport to catch an early flight. Very spacious, clean and pretty. A lot of space to hang around or do work. Has a nice kitchen to store food. However, sleeping at night does get hot. Not too walkable to city center. They need to put a bigger sign to show where the check in is. "
"The property itself is very cleaned with beautiful garden, great view of the canyon and great staff. The street leading to the hotel has several empty lots full of trash. It is not advisable to walk at night. The hotel has no dining. There is a restaurant on the main road not too far from the hotel, but the menu is very limited and the food is average. This place is good for one or 2 nights. "
"Great place with a pool and great little restaurant. Breakfast was included and was very hearty. The staff were excellent, and the place is very clean. The only downside is that it is directly beneath the flight path so you have to get used to hearing planes overhead, but not all night. Excellent airport transfer time with it being only 4 kms away from SJO, but if going during rush hour in the morning, give yourself extra time (it took us 40 minutes to get to SJO due to traffic). We would...
"It's very out of the way, a little hard to find, but beautiful. Not fancy, clean, rustic. Cute. Great breakfast. Only one restaurant close by, but they told us that the other restaurants deliver. There is a 'kitchenette' in the room, so you can bring some groceries if you like. Or reheat leftovers. "
"The only problem was no reall sign to know when you arrived, the gate is closed, and intercom didn’t work. We had to call to get someone to let us in. Didn’t speak any interest, but very nice. Breakfast was good. "
"Gorgeous property, jacuzzi by the pool was broken but there was a private one. Food was amazing grounds were incredible. A bit cooler than arenal. Close to airport in the hills outside of San Jose. Luxury experience. "

"I loved all of the options for activities. It would have been ni e to know where each activity was located & sometimes the food a a little bland. Otherwise, I absolutely enjoyed every minute i was there, definitely worth it!"

"We stayed for one night in chalet no.1 and loved it. The property is well appointed and pretty isolated with a lovely outlook over the Gulf of Nicoya. Being close to the River Tárcoles and Carara NP, there is plenty of wildlife and we saw scarlet macaws flying overhead in the evening. Laura met us at the entrance and showed us round our chalet which was clean and quite luxurious with two large beds, kitchenette, large bathroom with pleasant, natural views yet private and secluded, and a patio fully across the front and side with a clean, cooling plunge pool, loungers, tables and chairs.
Other reviews have criticised lack of cleanliness, hot water and reliable wi-fi but we had no problem with any of these.
Because there are only a handful of chalets here, there is no bar, café or restaurant nearby so we self-catered, though there's a variety of options in Tárcoles (a short drive away) most of which offer online ordering and delivery.
The location is fairly quiet, but traffic on the main coast road can be heard during the day at varying levels of intensity.
Akua Suites was the perfect final night for our Costa Rican tour. We got up early for a 2-hour birdwatching tour in Carara Park but we still had time afterwards to get a reasonably priced breakfast at the Crocodile Bridge and return to pack up before leaving the property shortly after 11am.
