Stroll through the landscape gardens and gaze up at the spectacular façade of this iconic city hall with a fascinating history.

The San Sebastian City Hall is among the most impressive buildings in the city. Formerly a casino, the 19th-century structure has an intriguing history and an exquisite interior. Relax on the grassy lawn in front of the city hall and snap photos of its mesmerizing façade.

Gaze up at the sandstone façade and admire its central twin towers, gorgeous colonnades and arched portals. Notice the clock in the center and the dome behind it.

Wander through the pretty gardens and enjoy the views of the adjacent beach and Concha Bay. Look outward to the green cliffs of Santa Clara Island in the bay. Kids can play in the small playground and on the carousel near the building.

Sit at one of the benches dotted around the outside of the building and watch people go by in this central part of the city. At night the city hall lights up the shore with its golden glow. Note that ceremonies and events, including upscale weddings and music concerts, often take place in this building.

The structure’s gorgeous interior is not often open, so only work meetings and stately invitations will provide a comprehensive insight. Occasionally the building does open its doors to the public and offers free admission. If you’re lucky enough to be here at one of these times, enter the structure and go up the elegant marble staircase.

Marvel at the opulence of the exquisite fixtures and furnishings throughout the halls. Gaze up at the majestic chandeliers that hang between the marble columns and stained-glass windows in the vast halls.

San Sebastian City Hall is just north of Concha Beach at the western end of the historic town center. Ride the bus to a nearby stop and walk for 5 minutes to get here. Visit other nearby highlights, such as Alderdi Eder Park, the San Sebastian Aquarium and the Museo Naval.
