*** Pets and Kids:***
We are a Pet and Kid Friendly resort. We allow up to two pets per unit for no additional charge, however, we do require a credit card to be on file in the event there is any damage to the unit or its furnishings. To remain a pet friendly resort, pets that are aggressive towards other dogs, cats or people, will NOT be allowed. Pet owners assume ALL liability for their pets. We do have cats on our property so if your dog is aggressive or likes to chase cats, please leash them at all times or do not bring them. We love our pets too. Aggressive animals will be asked to leave immediately.

All pets are required to be current on shots and must be protected with Flea and Tick medicine BEFORE you arrive. If you forget, we do have some for sale in the Outpost. All pets must be crated if left unattended in the units. No exceptions please! For your convenience, we do rent crates of all sizes for $8 per visit (not per night) but it is BYOB (Bring Your Own Blanket). Please call us in advance if you will need a crate in your unit. Please note, we will automatically charge your credit card for any damages done to the units, furnishings, linens or towels. Although we have never had to charge someone for damages, you will be required to sign a paper stating that you agree to these charges in advance. In the event this is ever necessary, we will provide photographs of the damages. PLEASE help us remain a pet friendly resort and just let us know if your pet had a bad day and accidentally chewed the towel or corner of the rug. We ask only that you reimburse us for the cost of the damaged item.

Even if your pet typically doesn't jump on the furniture, PLEASE bring thick blankets to cover the furniture with anyway! This goes a long way to helping the cleaning people get all the dog hair up before the next guests arrive. Thanks!

All guests MUST check in at our ice cream and gift shop Garden of the God's outpost at 281 Karber's ridge road. Once checked in you will be given your door code, wifi password, local information and a map to the cabin you are staying at. Great little cabin!
We very much enjoyed the Sassafras’s cabin! Clean, well appointed with dishes, pans etc. they even provided coffee. Centrally located in the Shawnee Natl Forest, we were only 8 minutes away from great hiking, The Garden of the Gods and more. While there are other cabins nearby there was plenty of privacy. Very quiet place to enjoy a fire pit and decompress. We will absolutely be back for another stay.

We had a great time.
Everything in and around the cabin was as it was listed and pictured on the website. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone a few days prior to check in and the lady that checked us in were courteous, friendly, and kind. My daughter and I had a great time. We both hope to return for another stay!

Great Cabin Location and Amenities but Bed Bugs
We loved our stay at this location. The cabin was stocked with everything you needed for your stay. At first the cabin appeared to be clean but I do believe we were bit by bed bugs and I would hope this is resolved. Everything was perfect until we woke up with bed bug bites all over our body. I did not see them but it was darker upstairs with one dim light.

Thoroughly enjoyable
Came to unplug and it was wonderful. Hiked nearby and being able to return to the cabin and cook dinner each night was a pleasure. Being dog friendly brought us to stay here and we enjoyed having her with us.

Lovely Cabin with a lovely view
Our stay was peaceful with our pets, however, we had an unexpected dog visitor (unleashed) who lunged and bit at my leashed pet. I am so very glad we followed the guidelines regarding pets for our stay as our dog could have been seriously injured by the unleashed dog.

Anniversary Get-a-way
We always have a great time when we come to Southern Illinois. The cabin was all it said it would be. Comfy and clean with just a bit of seclusion. Weather was perfect for sitting by the fire in the evening. If available, we would stay here again!

Need to leave early
We enjoyed our stay, but my husband got hurt on a hike and we had to leave a day early. We asked for a partial refund or credit and they said no. So we won’t stay at Timber Ridge. There are other places.

Wonderful stay
Everything was great and exactly as we expected. Quaint, quiet and off the beaten path. Just might want to spray for chiggers. We got bit a lot. But then I guess that’s expected in the woods.
