Shima Onsen Kashiwaya Ryokan

3.5 star property
9.8 out of 10, Exceptional, (64)
"I really enjoyed my stay at Kashiwaya Ryokan. Although it was long to get to without a car, it was worth the travel. The 2 days there didn’t feel like it was enough time. I will return again for sure. The room was comfortable, the private onsen were beautiful and amazing. The kaiseki served at dinner were delicious and perfectly balanced. The traditional Japanese breakfast (there were Western styled breakfast and brunch at the cafe in Shima Onsen town) was incredible as well. I want to thank the...

"朝晩の食事がとても美味しくボリュームがあり大変満足です。大きな宿と違い毎食部屋で食べることができるので、とてもリラックスできます。お湯はとっても滑らかで、宿のすぐ脇に重要文化財の薬師堂と、御夢想の湯(入浴料無料)があります。 川のせせらぎと小鳥の囀り、時々遠くに鹿の鳴き声も聞こえました。日々の喧騒から離れてのんびりしたい方にはおすすめです。"

Yudanaka Seifuso

3.0 star property
9.2 out of 10, Wonderful, (185)
"This place was a very cute, homely, with a family owned ryokan vibe. We had a nice spacious room, the biggest we had in our whole trip to Japan, with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. The futons were so comfortable compared to other futons we slept on at other ‘trendy’ ryokans. The onsen was very nice and relaxing, they offered both private and public onsen and amenities. The styling is old fashioned but this added to the charm of the place for me and I would definitely stay here...

"Such a wonderful and unique experience ! The owner greeted us outside the door with a warm welcome and also on our departure was there to say good bye. The entire staff was so kind and courteous. Marina, especially went out of her way to help us throughout our stay. We chose to book the private onsen room and it was well worth the extra charge. "I had a wonderful stay at this authentic Japanese ryokan. The charm of the place lies in its simplicity and traditional feel. Though the ryokan is old, it has a timeless authenticity that makes the experience unique and memorable. The host was incredibly friendly and accommodating, and it was a pleasant surprise that they could converse in English, which made communication effortless. One of the highlights was the meals.
