Amazing Historic Country Residence near to Dublin

This incredible property has recently been added to Homeaway. It offers a unique opportunity to stay in a very special historic house. Apart from the well-appointed ensuite bathrooms and kitchen facilities little has changed here in 100 years. The family portraits and antique furniture and works of art from the family makes this a very special place to stay. The owner Aisling Law is from a long line of artists as well as the great-granddaughter of the Irish heroine Maud Gonne who was also muse to W.B Yeats . Flower arrangements and fresh produce from the garden and eggs from the farm makes it homely. Extensive grounds with mature trees and views over the river to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Newgrange. Walled garden, farmyard fowl, and beautiful BBQ area and pizza oven area hidden away in the ancient Yew wood. Walks by the river, dogs to accompany you on a riverside walk and maybe come across one of the residents who live on the estate, who can tell you the many stories and legends of this beautiful area and its history which dates back to the 6th century makes Rossnaree House a memorable place to spend a week or a few days and an ideal place for families.
The nearby village of Slane has some great pubs with live music sessions ,and good restaurants, as well as the recently established Slane Castle Whiskey Distillery Heritage. There are 5 bespoke bedrooms, dining room, drawing room and library with projector and screen with an eclectic video library, kitchen with all mod-cons

Amazing Historical Property
Rossnaree House is simply amazing. Historically significant in it’s own right with views of Newgrange and Knowth across the Boyne. The owners were incredibly helpful and they and the neighbor down the lane were so friendly. The place was surprisingly clean for a place with that much history. The furnishings are comfortable but very artistic.

Fabulous experience!
We had such a wonderful stay at Rosnaree last year with my husband's mom and siblings that we came back this summer with my dad and the kids! Typically we like to explore new places when we travel, but the magic of this place is something special we wanted to share. One of our kids dubbed it "My Bridgerton experience!" Aisling has made a number of updates, including adding an accessible shower in the main floor bath. The Morning Room has such an amazing view it's worth walking through a hall to that bath! The Tiger room isn't technically en suite, but it's very private. The other rooms are en suite. Aisling made up the twin beds in the river room as a king for my husband and I. We all found the beds very comfortable - it's nice when a "stepping back in time" experience includes comfort! Last year we visited in April and it was beautiful with daffodils and cozy fires. We all enjoyed the full bloom of June this time around.

Our family of 10 stayed here and really enjoyed it! Plenty of room inside and outside. The house has an old world charm to it and it felt as though we were transported back in time. Lots of great art throughout the home. Its location was great as it was secluded in the countryside, yet an easy drive to Dublin. The kids enjoyed exploring the outdoors and seeing the peacocks on the property. The dining room was perfect for family dinners and the painting room for evening conversations. Lastly the host, Aisling, is wonderful and extremely welcoming. She gave us a tour of the house and property, telling us much about the history of the house and her family. All in all it was a great stay and wished we could’ve stayed longer.

Beautiful property and location
The beauty of Rossnaree House, the grounds, and its views of Newgrange cannot be overstated! Aisling was absolutely wonderful to meet and converse with, and her property manager helped us get our heavy luggage to our rooms upon arrival and to our vehicle when we checked out - this was so appreciated and helpful, especially for my older parents. Aisling left us fresh eggs, bread and strawberries in the kitchen for our arrival which was amazing. Word to the wise that we had some issues with the WIFI and fitting our large adapters in some of the older outlets close to the floor, but that was minor. Just want folks to be able to plan accordingly. There are WIFI instructions on hand and the property manager said he could help with any issues, we just didn’t have time to meet up with him due to our schedule and shorter stay. It really made no difference, because it was minor in comparison to the history and beauty this home and grounds have to offer. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and hope to be back! I’d recommend you bring smaller plug adapters and work with the property manager early on if you have an issue connecting to the WIFI - it could have been our error. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us, Aisling! I hope to return someday soon!!

The house and grounds are beautiful and the view is spectacular. The owner is gracious. We did not understand from the description that a car is a virtual necessity for a pleasurable stay here. Nothing is within walking distance and there is no public transportation. Again, the setting of the house is fantastic and the house is suitable for a large group. We were seven and had room left over. The experience was priceless.

We felt as if we were characters in a Jane Austin book
First of all, Ainslie was a warm and wonderful host and we thank her! She stocked the kitchen with fresh breads, cakes, milk and butter. The home is magnificent and you can read its history in one of the books in the drawing room. The grounds are ample and gorgeous with views of rolling hills with sheep and cattle atop. There were 10 of us and we all had our own rooms and bathrooms. We could see Newgrange from the window. The kids were enchanted by the chickens, peacocks, geese and ducklings. It was a 40 min drive into Dublin but that suited our purposes. The only reason I didn’t give a perfect Cleanliness score was because it’s impossible to keep such a large country home immaculate. There are bound to be a few bugs or cobwebs. To be clear, we were very happy with our stay

It was amazing waking up and looking out my window to see Newgrange and Knowthe. What an experience to be in such a beautiful and historic home. The grounds are amazing, took a long walk along the Boyne with a couple of donkeys joining in. Aisling was welcoming and generous. Lovely old mansion, a unique experience
This is an 1850 mansion (or manor house) with lots of rooms, staircases, peacocks, swallows, and character! We had a lovely visit for 3 nights. The grounds are spectacular, you can see Newgrange, Knowth, and the Boyne River Valley (and can walk right down to the river). Aisling was a delight, very responsive and friendly. A great visit, recommended for large groups!

Magical Rossnaree House
We received the warmest Irish welcome from Aisling, complete with a brief tour and history of the property, home, and to top that all off, we had fresh bread, fruit and jam to enjoy. What a welcomed treat after our long travels! There is so much rich history to learn about the home and surrounding property. It was truly a magical experience in every way. Aisling arranged fishing and kayaking on the Boyne River for our family and two lovely dinners on the property, one at the house and one in the magical forest. The location is perfect for trips into Dublin, Slane and Newgrange. Aisling and her team were the perfect hosts and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was lovely and memorable.

Our group of 8 senior adults had a very educational and relaxing experience while staying at the historic Rossnaree House. Located on the Boyne River with walking trails from the home provided excellent fresh air adventures. The history of the house and of the family added to the charm of the surroundings. Aisling was a perfect hostess and was very attentive to our needs. Her knowledge of the area assisted us in decision making regarding our activities. Highly recommend staying at Rossnaree.

Stepping out of time
Our family gathered in Ireland for a 93rd birthday celebration and spent three days at Rossnaree House. We booked the home because of it’s history and central location. We spent full days exploring the surrounding area – the Brú na Bóinne valley, the Mountains of Mourne and a visit to the Irish National Stud. Coming back to the house was slipping back in time as we relaxed in the drawing room with a warm fire. The internet worked in the drawing room, but phones took a backseat to the experience of simply being in the space. You’re surrounded with such history in the home and in the land! Sunrise over the field of daffodils with Newgrange across the river felt close to the druids that called this land home. We walked the land down to the river accompanied by donkeys and sheep. “Rosenaree” means wood of the kings – the walk took us past an ancient structure that could be part of the naming. The evening of my mother-in-law’s birthday, Aisling created a celebratory and delicious dinner – she dressed the formal dining room with china and candles and flower arrangements and delighted our group. If she offers, accept!! A few specifics about the house – it’s very clean and easy to move into, welcoming. It’s also a little like moving into a house you’d see on a tour – you half expect to see ropes across chairs warning “do not sit”, but there are no such restrictions. There is one bedroom on the main floor, and a half bath on the main floor as well. There are stairs to the other bedrooms and bathrooms. Bring warm jammies and socks! Electric heaters are a great addition to the fireplaces, but it’s an old stone house. You snuggle in grateful for the warm duvets on comfortable beds. We didn’t cook a lot, we found excellent restaurants close by, and of course, the amazing birthday dinner by Aisling. We did use the small kitchen for our breakfasts – a good coffee maker, fresh eggs, bread and jam were perfect. It would have functioned well had we chosen to eat in; it is a room for cooking, rather than gathering. The heart of the house for us was the drawing room. Our explorations took us across the country to other amazing spaces, the introduction to Ireland at Rosenaree House set a magical tone for the trip.

Perfect place for a family stay
This is a charming large historic manor on a picturesque property overlooking the River Boyne and Newgrange. The house was massive and filled with an incredible collection of world art pieces and antiques. Aisling was a perfect host, greeting us with fresh brown bread and an incredible strawberry tart. She brought us fresh eggs from the hens on the property. We were in good company with the friendly dogs and white peacock. The kids had a blast on the long zipline at the back. Highly recommend staying here.

Family Retreat Perfection
Everything about our stay transpired to be even more than we had hoped for. The house was beautiful and well-maintained. There was ample space for our three families and so much to explore both in the house itself and outside in the grounds and the surrounding property. Everything here has been done with care and attention. There are many fun extra provisions such as a large firepit and fire top open air grill, a zip line for kids, soccer nets, trampoline, outdoor seating appointed throughout the grounds, and a stone pizza oven buried in the woods. Newgrange is actually visible from the front and side yard, what an incredible surprise treat that was! The house is rich in history, as is the surrounding area. Aisling is a wealth of information about both the house and the surrounding land and local attractions. Aisling was so kind to all of us, teaching the younger children how to feed chickens and take care of the grounds. She was available to answer any questions or help with anything. She gave this gathering a real personal touch, and she is what we will remember of this trip as much as the house itself and all those hours spent with family whiling away the hours drinking tea and watching sunsets in those beautiful grounds. This family gathering spot felt effortless and without need for too much planning, as we were just able to unfold the time together simply enjoying the beautiful setting. Thank you Aisling and family, for making it the best of the best! We’ll be back for sure! Síofra

Lovely Experience
Two families shared this beautiful property for our stay in Ireland. The property owner was very helpful, and her welcoming treats were an added bonus. Location is convenient to many different places within Ireland (including a birds eye view of Knowth a UNESCO world heritage site), but the property is something you enjoy on its own for its beauty and rich history. There is a theater room, TVs, and wireless internet (that may not meet some modern needs), but the surroundings made it definitely worth going unplugged. We definitely recommend and look forward to visiting again!

Beyond magical at Rosnaree
We visited Rosnaree House for a family party and had the most magical experience. The location and situation of the house is jaw-droppingly beautiful - as you drive up the avenue you can see Newgrange and Knowth in the distance. The house itself is so homely - decorated with amazing art and furniture. It is colourful and bohomenian yet spotlessly clean and comfortable, with luxurious linen and bedding. The hosts, Aisling and Juarandir, are incredibly welcoming and warm. They provided some delicious treats for breakfast and gave us a tour of the house. We could've stayed talking to them all day as they are so interesting but they encouraged us to explore the house and surrounding area. It is difficult to put into words the beauty and magic of Rosnaree House. There is a special energy in the place - the location, the history and the exceptional hosts. Staying at Rosnaree felt like a once in a life time opportunity - I would highly recommend trying it out for yourself!

Beautiful historic house. Beds , linens all v good quality. Kitchen is v small but adequare for cooking for 4 , tho I couldn't cook for more as counter space very limited. Grand for preparing breakfast but because of Covid we had decided to cook dinner each evening. Aisling did mention that it was the former pantry. lit the stove in the evenings which gave great heat. I meant to tell Aisling that the water pressure upstairs will need adjustment , as we had to take showers at different times. The gardens are lovely and the swings and football areas were great for my grandson. It is a most peaceful place to stay with views of Newgrange and the river. If staying in a beautiful, peaceful place and you like historoc houses , Rossnaree is fits the bill.

Beautiful house with stunning grounds that the children loved. Aisling is a very welcoming host and she made us feel at home. The house is very old and needs care when staying there so it wouldn't suit those looking for glossy 5 star comfort, but we loved it. Slane is a great area to stay in with lots to do.
