Indoor tree house, bonfire grill & spacious front porch ~ Mountain Grove

Recently renovated to add a master bath, laundry room, and create a kid friendly indoor treehouse out of attic storage space in the bedrooms, Mountain Grove is relaxing and fun during the fall, winter, spring or summer. Located in the heart of Laurel Highlands in a little neighborhood of Conservation Civilian Corps cabins less than one mile from Kooser State Park and nestled between Hidden Valley, Seven Springs and Laurel Mountain ski resorts, this family and pet friendly cabin in the woods has everything you need to enjoy an outdoor getaway. Travelers have enjoyed this cozy home in the mountains as a solo rejuvenating escape for 1, getaway for 2, a family vacation, or a get together with friends/extended family.

Nearby attractions include hiking, biking, skiing, fishing, golfing, star gazing, bird watching, restaurants, spas and more. Enjoy the many trails and ponds nearby at Kooser (2 minute drive), Laurel Hill (7 minute drive) or Forbes (12 minute drive) State Parks. Bike the GAP trail at Rockwood just 15 minutes away. Check out the local resorts for food, golf, spas, ziplines, mountain biking, special events, skiing and more at Hidden Valley (5 minute drive), Seven Springs (17 minute drive), or Laurel Mountain (30 minute drive). Peruse the local towns of Somerset (15 minute drive), Ligonier (30 minute drive) or Ohiopyle (34 minute drive) for restaurants, shopping, white water rafting and trails. Local attractions also include Idlewild, Caddyshack, Living Treasures Animal Park, Laurel Caverns, Jennerstown Speedway, Fort Ligonier and more! Glade Pike Winery tasting room is just up the road with live music on Saturday nights as well. Check out laurelhighlands.com for more ideas.

Even though you will feel like you are in the middle of the woods in a peaceful setting, if you forget anything a gas station/convenience store is only a 2 minute drive away and a grocery store is only a 20 minute drive away. Once you settle in, you will enjoy a cozy, traditional cabin in the woods with spacious front deck, outdoor combo bonfire/grill (Charcoal or wood for cooking or simply relaxing. One bundle of wood is provided to start your vacation, but there are places nearby to purchase charcoal or more wood.), gas fireplace, and indoor treehouse for kids ideally ages 6 - 12.

Kids love climbing the stairs next to the tree mural because it feels like they are climbing into an indoor treehouse with repurposed wood accents on the walls. As you walk in, you will see a mini window above the kitchen area, so adults in the kitchen or living room downstairs can hear the kiddos playing upstairs or opt to close the window so the kids can sleep while parents still hang out downstairs. The creates a fun, spacious cabin for families.

Excellent WiFi service will help you stay connected to friends, family, and work (Gasp! Only if necessary...you should be relaxing!) or allow you to finally binge watch that series you always wanted to see.

A variety of games, cornhole on the front deck or in the yard, and the bonfire pit that can be used as a grill with wood or charcoal will help you stay entertained and unplug from screens too!

3 bedrooms and 2 baths accommodates a maximum of 8 people and 2 well behaved, house trained dogs. There is an additional $30 per night pet fee when fur family joins you at the cabin. Please be sure to check the pet box when booking to pay during your reservation, or you will need to pay it before your arrival.

If you have additional people or pets in your party, please message to inquire about also renting Blue Mountain Retreat (with terraced backyard including hot tub, bonfire circle, picnic table and gas grill also accommodating up to 8 people. See vrbo.com/3579454 ) adjacent to Mountain Grove. Multiple families have enjoyed renting both cabins for relaxing family reunions or birthday celebrations.

The location off of 31 makes it easily accessible year round, but far enough off the road to be peacefully tucked in the woods. A limit of 3 cars per cabin has to be maintained because there is no overflow parking available nearby (AWD or 4WD vehicles during the winter months of snow are required for ease of access). Visitors should be accounted for in your reservation.

We cannot wait to host you! Feel free to reach out with any questions about additional attractions or inquiries.

Perfect cottage for our girl's get away weekend!
Sweet cottage for the weekend in the Laurel Highlands. Very clean, well kept cottage met our needs for the weekend. The host was attentive and helpful during our stay and supplied LOTS of information for the area! We came to see Frank Lyod Wright's Fallingwater, stopping along the way at the Flight 93 Memorial. Beutiful area, wineries, cute shops, lovely parks. Thank you Lisa!

Great getaway cabin
Very nice mountain cabin. Clean and well maintained.. Spacious great room with wonderful big windows for lots of natural light. Ample front porch to enjoy and be sheltered from the elements. We had some rain and were still able to have morning coffee and evening meals out of doors. Easy access to the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail at the Rockwood trailhead. Also quite close to Kooser and Laurel Mountain state parks. Moo Echo Dairy market is close by; general store with yummy homemade ice cream.

great Labor Day get away
My husband and I really enjoyed the cabin and nearby outdoor activities (hiking and kayaking). A wonderful host and amenities. It was a great location to meet our adult children who live in Pittsburgh and Columbus, OH. I'm sure the location/neighborhood is better for winter activities. We'd definitely consider coming back if we rented both houses owned by the host.

Three winners Highlands, Home, and Host
I decided to get out of the NC heat and decided to spend 3 weeks in PA’s Laurel Highlands. The decision was a good one given the access to a wide variety of outdoor activities. As a base of operation I wanted a place that was quaint, rustic, and slightly off the beaten path with modern conveniences and connectivity. Mountain Grove checked all the boxes. The kitchen was well equipped and the internet was excellent. It would be a great place to work remotely Then there is Lisa, the owner/host. I have stayed at VRBOs all over the country and have never had a host as conscientious, responsive or as pleasant. She’s a gem. Obviously I highly recommend the Highlands and I couldn’t be more superlative about Mountain Grove

Nice cabin close to activities
Overall we enjoyed our stay at Mountain Grove. The location was great in that we did not have to drive very far with three small kids in the car to get to activities or restaurants nearby. The kids also LOVED the "tree house" and spent a lot of time playing up there. The cabin was very clean and comfortable, which we appreciated. Some things we would have liked to know prior to booking were: the proximity to other cabins - this is more of a small development type setting and there are a few cabins very close by. Also, the grill is a grate over a fire pit. Enough firewood is provided for one use and after that you will need to purchase other wood nearby. Lastly, the road turning into and out of the development is very bumpy and if you have a car (and not a truck or SUV) you may scrape the bottom of your vehicle on the roadway due to the big dip in the road.

The house was clean and as expected. The kids loved the loft treehouse inside. Dog friendly is a huge plus. A few minutes from kooser state and a few more from Laurel hill park. Great location. Lisa was great and easy to communicate with. We loved the fire pit and the big classic Laurel highland rocks in the landscape.

Amazing experience
This location was great. We easily traveled to Ohiopyle, Laurel Caverns and the 9/11 memorial, but were off the beaten path. The house was wonderful. My 11 y/o son only left the treehouse for meals and if we were leaving the house. Such a cute little space for the kids. The house had room to spread out, and a nice living room to pile up in for a movie. Host is wonderful. Very quick to respond to questions. We followed some of her recommendations and fell in love with the store (Moo Echo) and restaurant (Brady’s) she recommended. Great stay. We were comfortable and had lots of fun. Thanks, Lisa!

Great Getaway!
We stayed here over the fourth and had a wonderful long weekend. The home was very well stocked, very clean, and very comfortable. We enjoyed playing yard games out front, card/board games on the front deck, and cooking dinners and smores around the fire. We enjoyed outings to see fireworks at Seven Springs, a hike at the nearby state park, and white water rafting in Ohiopyle. Lisa was a very thoughtful host who sent many recommendations for area restaurants and activities and her communication with us was always very prompt. Again, we were completely happy with our stay at this cabin and would come back in a heartbeat! Thanks Lisa!

Very clean and convenient. We actually only slept there (and the beds were comfortable) since we had other obligations in the area. We were grateful for the new Air Conditioner since the weather was very warm. We had good communication with the host and Lisa was prompt in her responses. Lisa also furnished helpful dining and grocery information. I would definitely consider staying at this property again.

A perfect mountain retreat!
Came up Tuesday with some plans to ski Wednesday. The place was warm and welcoming and an absolutely perfect home-away-from-home. We skied Hidden Valley in the early part of the day then back to the cabin to relax and eat some lunch before heading to 7 Springs for the night session. Our dogs loved walking around the neighborhood and sleeping on the couches! All in all, a prefect little family get away! Thanks Lisa and Jamie, we will be back!

Girls Weekend Getaway
This cabin was perfect for me and my 2 girl friends. It was very clean and comfortable and the host was very responsive. The indoor tree house room is very cute for kids (although we left ours at home!) There are a lot of beautiful hiking trails close by and some good wineries as well! Glade’s Pike winery has great slushies and Vin de Matrix was another good winery we tried. We also went to Moo Echo Dairy and bought of treats home for our families. We may have come in between the busier seasons (November) so it did seem like most restaurants closed by 9pm. We had a great time relaxing and it was peaceful, but there were also many things in the cabin for families - games, cornhole and a fire pit.

A beautiful cabin that is cozy and clean. Plenty of linen, toiletries, blankets and pillows. Beds were comfortable and well presented. Nice weekend getaway
We really enjoyed our stay at Mountain Grove. It was nice to rent both Mountain Grove and Blue Mountain Retreat. They are so close yet gave us each our own privacy. Each cabin has its own uniqueness. We loved the long front porch and gas fireplace here. Corn hole was a hit too!! Two adult couples (along with their dogs since they are family too 😊) stayed here, each with their own bathroom as one of the bedrooms has one attached. I imagine a family with young children would love the kids bedroom with bunk beds and ladder-like steps to a loft area with gaming chairs, Tv and a bean bag mattress. The outdoor grill/fire pit was perfect. We grilled kabobs and it worked perfectly. Everything that we needed for our stay was in the cabin. We will definitely rent again. Not only was it welcoming, there is so much to do nearby. Thank you, Lisa, for being a wonderful host.
