Great find! Great hosts.
We had a wonderful stay in Normandy! This place worked perfect for our extended family of nine. The accommodations were comfortable and spacious and the central location was great; less than an hour to Mont Saint Michel, Bayeux, Omaha Beach, and Caen! Le Moulin L'eveque presents a picturesque setting right along the water, complete with old mill. Our hosts, Johnny and Lynn, were very gracious throughout the stay. We would definitely stay here again!

Perfect
I wish our 4 day stay could have been 4 weeks. The perfect location mid-way between the Invasion beaches and Mont San-Michele. The setting is beautiful, quiet and enchanting. Clean - comfortable - workable. The hosts provide for any and all needs. We hope to be back for a longer stay.

Delightful cottages built around an old watermill on the river Vire.
Spent 9 nights at Moulin l'Eveque and loved every minute of it. Delightful cottages stand in a wonderful location, spacious and very well equipped. The hosts, Lynn and John, couldn't do enough. John arranged for the appointment with the local vet and prepared bikes so my boys could cycle the area. We played table tennis in the barn and enjoyed the log fire in the barn. The cottage is ideally located for all of Normandie's attraction. We were lucky with the weather, canued up and down the river and cycled the local area and visited the viaduct several times. Our springer cross loved playing with Azure and in the river. We found it hard to leave and will definitely go back. Lynn's jam is heavenly.

Perfect rural retreat
Le Moulin l'Eveque is a delightful location beside the river with three gites to choose from. It is in a perfect position for visiting the Normandy landing beaches and Bayeux easily and as it is in easy reach of the auto-route it is also good for travelling to places further afield. We enjoyed our week finding plenty to do without travelling very far and we also relished an afternoon, or two, just sitting watching the river flow by and spotting the wildlife ... including kingfishers. This visit we stayed in Le Gite De Cadran Solaire, a very spacious house with an excellently equipped kitchen, a bathroom with a lovely shower, an extremely comfortable bed and plenty of space. As there were only the two of us we did not use all the facilities but there is ample accommodation for up to 8 people. Previously we have stayed in the smallest property which is also extremely well equipped and very cosy. The entire property is well maintained and clean. Our hosts, Johnny and Lynn, were very welcoming and friendly. They are ready to offer advice if required and always ready to chat and share a laugh without being intrusive. We would have no hesitation in recommending this property to friends and relatives, and have already done so!

Delightful location and lovely house
We had a lovely week-long stay at le Moulin l’eveque - a real home from home with a warm welcome. Loved the flowers from the garden and home made jam in the spotless kitchen on arrival (as well as the cider in the fridge!). Very comfortable beds/bedrooms with lovely furniture and decorative touches - with the windows ajar you enjoy the sound of the water in the mill-race which is really soothing. Easy to get from here to local sights, and Johnny and Lynn are both really helpful with suggestions to suit the weather and the travellers! The barn is a lovely social space for visitors to mingle if they so wish, and the opportunity to pick our own fruit from the garden was such fun, as was meeting the various animals of the establishment. We and our children loved the location and the house, and hope to return in the future.

A Jewel in Normandy's Crowm
We have stayed in Normandy many times but this is by far the most beautiful of the places we have found. Despite being there to visit the many beaches and towns associated with the wars, we could have quite easily have whiled away the days relaxing by the river with a glass of the local vin or kayaking along the gorge (kayak provided free of charge). Wifi was a non- negotiable in the booking process, thanks to a work-agility husband and 2 teenagers, however it wasn't long before the internet was replaced by ping pong tournaments, sociable evenings with the other holidaymakers in the communal barn and barbecues in the stunning surroundings. Johnny and Lynn are the perfect hosts; sociable and knowledgeable, yet unobtrusive. We stayed in the largest of the gites and it offers everything and more you would expect to hung in a country gite. Beds are comfortable and washing machines and dishwashers make the self - catering aspect even easier. Satellite TV is available if that is your thing. Overall, would we stay again? Well, we've already booked for next year !

Beautiful space and charming property, in this idyllic spot, relaxation, peace and great hosts.
We stayed in the larger property, and our hosts Johnny and Lynn were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble and when discussing plans they were happy to offer up suggestions for places to eat, visit etc. To be honest we looked at all the gites and we are planning a return trip with a larger party of friends. The barn was well equipped to chill out in and socialise, playing table tennis, or just chatting, we felt totally at home. Our 8 year old loved the animals (2 x horses, 2 x cats and Azure the beautiful dog), he fed the horses, and was fascinated by looking for wildlife around the property (heron, kingfisher and the coypou in the river), as well as frisbee and kayakking. The facilities were well equipped, and the children and us enjoyed the odd night of english telly, and wifi when we needed a change of pace. To be honest its good to be able to switch off relax and let the children roam about. I recommend visiting the wine shop in the village of Beny-Bocage, recommended by Johnny and we couldn't stop going back! We enjoyed a few days just relaxing at the farm, the rest of the time we were ideally located to travel across Normandy, we went to Bayeaux (recommend the tapestry), some lovely meals, the beaches were fantastic, Laurent sur-Mer was a favourite and worth the drive. Granville was fantastic, and we visited Hon Fleur, which was worth it but we were ripped off by the restaurants on the front, we should have explored more but were hungry. Children activities were a-plenty, both at the Gites and also nearby - the boys loved the Alligator farm and the Zoo at Jurques was great. We will be returning, such a great holiday.. made some beautiful memories and some great friends. We didn't have enough time to properly take in the wonderful historic sites, as we ensured we spent enough time relaxing at a slower pace.

Merci Johnny.

Great holiday in superb accomm in fab location.
By the end of our stay, we had visited the pretty nearby villages of Campeaux and Le Beny Bocage, and walked AND cycled (brilliant bikes provided by Johnny and Lynn) more than we'd ever done before. (The nearby bungee-jumping facility, in a lovely park which also has various children's activities is only open Easter – Sept.) This helped to actually reduce my circumference, despite the delicious food in the local restaurants (details provided by Johnny) and the splendid meals my Better Half prepared in the gite's extremely well-appointed kitchen (while the kids and I built up our appetites on the table tennis table in the splendid 'shed' / playroom) All in all, we were delighted with the atmosphere of the place, hosts who responded to any needs we had (mostly in the form of guidance on where to go and what to see), REALLY peaceful surroundings (no pre- or post-Christmas sales crowds there!) and telling the time by the sundial (Our cottage/mansion is called Gite de Cadran Solaire). Heaven AND bliss! I won't just tell my friends about this jewel: I'll bring them there. We were so content at Le Moulin L'Eveque (meaning the Bishop's Mill and it has a magnificently beautiful ancient water-wheel) that we never made it to the WW2 Normandy Landing beaches, so we'll be back for that trip among many other untried activities within half an hour's scenic drive, which include horse riding, sailing, wind surfing, fishing, golf, zoos (!)and an aquarium. The charges are extremely reasonable for such luxury AND there are so many free extras that it really provides supreme value. All Johnny and Lynn's claims on Le Moulin L'Eveque's website were over-exceeded by the reality. The facilities (kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms)were well furnished, clean and comfortable and we'll never sleep as well again until we've got Egyptian cotton on our beds at home!

Perfect family escape
We have just returned from a week at Le Moulin l'Eveque. We stayed in the biggest Gite which has three bedrooms and comes with its own outdoor space including a charcoal BBQ and loungers. Come the afternoon the garden is a sun trap and a great spot to relax after a days sightseeing. We found the Gite to be perfect for our stay. We are a family of four (2 adults, 2 kids ages 9 and 6), my sister and fiancé joined us from Australia as well and our dog Alfie. The Gite accommodated us perfectly and there was plenty of chairs around the table (both indoor and outside) and in the lounge room for everyone. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need - just remember to bring enough food and drinks for your first night or two as there wasn't much open in the little town on Saturday. The main bathroom has a great shower (with massage option but no bath). There is also another shower room and one of the bedrooms has an ensuite toilet. Both Johnny and Lyn were fantastic hosts and gave us lots of great tips for day trips and eating out. Definitely check out The Viaduct (about 10 min drive from the Gite) which has lots of adrenalin activities including bungee jumping, high swings, a luge and other activities for the whole family. If you have a dog with you can even walk up to the lower area of The Viaduct in about an hour from the Gites just ask your hosts for directions. My daughters loved the horses, cats and dog and all the activities in the barn and river. They picked berries with Lyn and fed the horses. What a fantastic week! We will definitely return. Book it up - you won't be disappointed! Le Moulin l'Eveque is perfectly located near the town of Vire which has a pool with watersides and you can take the train to Paris in under 2 hours. We went to Bayoux and saw the Bayoux Tapestry and the stunning Cathedral. You could also do the D Day beaches the same day. Villediey-les-Poeles has agreat market on Tuesdays which was fantastic for food, clothing and brass/copper items. Another day we drove to Avranches and took a walk through the town (lovely view of Mont Saint Michel from the Botanical Gardens) and then drove onto Granville via Genets. Granville was beautiful and you can go swimming, paragliding over the cliffs, check out the Christian Dior Museum and Gardens and eat some lovely local seafood including the local speciality Whelks. Definitely try the Le Routier for dinner one night. It's fantastic value and a great experience - ask Lyn.

idylic property, far from the madning crowd
really beautiful property, very comfortable ,clean, spacious, rustic accommodation. very comfortable beds! Lovely atmosphere, the hosts are so friendly and helpful with adorable pets, ( one dog, three cats). It is very quiet with a river running by, but very near Bayeaux and the cultural treasures of Normandy.

Incredibly beautiful location
Deep in the valley of the Soulevre, next to the rushing river, there is a cluster of stone cottages surrounded by lush gardens. You could stay there, too, if you book. We were in the three bedroom, a middle-aged couple and our two young-adult children. Despite this rural location, it is a short distance from the A84, which goes to both Caen and Mt. St. Michel. Keep in mind that most locations take a hour's drive, due to the twisty Norman roads when not on the freeway. Bayeaux Is 45 minutes and the charming Chateau de Balleroy a half hour. We loved the Normand cider (3 euros in the grocery store), and did a cider and cheese drive.

A Slice of Normandie Heaven
Don't hesitate, just book it. Really. We all dream of a holiday location where you can escape reality for a short while, where children and pets alike are catered for, and the hosts are warm and welcoming. This is that place. We arrived early evening on the Saturday, welcomed by some of Lynn's gorgeous home-made raspberry jam, a bottle of local (farm next door) cidre thrust into my hands from Johnny. The gite was spotless - everything you could want - UK Freeview TV (some would like it I'm sure - we managed to watch TV once in the fortnight - far too many interesting things to do). Internet, for the devices you promised yourself faithfully to ignore whilst away. The kitchen was well equipped - the fridge with cold water and ice making was especially welcome. The children (12 & 13) spent a good deal of time in "The Barn" - a wonderful open-plan (and indeed open on one side to the elements) space with sofas, fireplace, ping pong table and all the bits and bobs you forgot to pack for them, such as badminton rackets, football etc. We ended up chatting in there on a few evenings with Johnny, Lynn, and other guests, over wine or cidre, whilst the children played behind us, dogs at our feet. Ah yes, Azure, their cheeky gentleman of a Spaniel who can hypnotise you from 50 paces into giving up your hard-won food, but manages to never be in your face. What a trick! We alternated, a day exploring Normandie, a day unwinding at Le Moulin L'Eveque. Literally a 30 minute walk up the lane, alongside the river, there's a great place for the family - bungee jumping from the viaduct (we watched!), a 1km long luge which was great fun, tree-top adventure climbs over safety netting, bar-b-que with reasonably priced food. We made use of the canoe to explore the Vire, seeing jumping fish and coypu. Further afield there are markets on practically any day of the week, and you're within striking distance of the coastal towns to the North and West - pretty much an hour each way. I honestly can't recommend this place enough - I have come away far more relaxed and happy than from any other holiday. I have also come away realising that Normandie has enough to fill your holidays a thousand times over. Our hosts couldn't do enough for us, nothing was too much trouble (including booking our pooch into the local vets for the return checkup), and are a treasure-trove of information. But more than that, they are lovely people, which manifests itself in Le Moulin L'Eveque. Thank you both.

The perfect hideaway
We, a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 young children) and our precious dog, stayed for a week at the Moulin L'Eveque in the month of July. The entire family enjoyed our stay to the bone. Whilst the owners live on the premises, they are not in your face and always friendly and helpful. The house itself was well maintained and had all the basic necessities. My daughters especially enjoyed their dayly greetings with the horse and pony and the riverside location was always a peacefull haven... For us it was perfect. For future visitors, it is very much recommended that you have a car and that you have the willingness to explore. There is a lot to do in Normandy but you need to drive a bit before you get to the major hubs (lets say approx 30 - 45 minutes). In the Bocage area, it is also slightly less straightforward to have decent restaurants within a 10 - 15 minutes range. It was holidays after all, we never intended to cook at home, so we always had dinner on the road; coming back to the house. All in all an experience we all enjoyed very much... Our daughters are still asking to go back and see the horses... Ps... Lynn's jam is exquisite ;-)

Cycling in Calvados
I stayed with friends at this gite as part of our cycling holiday in Calvados. As moulin leveque is at the bottom of a valley we had a lovely downhill descent to the gite and found the valley, mill and whole setting to be a real treat. We were blessed with good weather and spent evenings eating at our picnic table outside, enjoying the river views. Of course being in a valley meant that cycling off for the day often involved an ascent! But we had some good cycling days out. Beny Bocage, about six miles away, is a pretty little village for a beer and to stock up on basics. The nearest village, Campeux, is a short ride away, has a boulagerie, butcher and mini-mart. The gite itself was spacious and clean and suited us well.

Beautiful Peaceful Gite right by the River Vire
We had a great stay at Moulin l’eveque (June 2015) – we were a group of cyclists doing day-trips around Calvados and Manche. It’s an idyllic peaceful spot – lots of beautiful silent woods – right on the banks of the river Vire. The accommodation suited us very well – lots of room, a huge kitchen diner, we had all we needed to cater for the group. The proprietor Johnny speaks English, so he and Lynn were very hospitable and helpful for local info, directions, places to go etc. We would definitely re-visit.

Totally as described
We have been before and stayed in the smallest gite, this time we travelled with family and stayed in the biggest gite.. What can I say, the kitchen was better equipped than ours at home, the beds were all made with white cotton bedding and the towels were Egyptian Cotton, all we had to do was supply the food. The hospitality shown by Johnny and Lynn was second to none, they were there if we needed any help or advise but were never 'in our face'. The kids loved the fishing and the canoe, they even went on a bike ride with the bikes being provided. In the evenings we all gathered in the barn area where we put the world to rights over a few drinks. All in all a brilliant holiday and we will definitely be returning.

Loved it! :)
We don’t often write reviews, but we had to this time after having such a wonderful vacation here a while ago. The perfect setting in a fantastically beautiful area of rural France, with gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside and adjacent river (with a glorious waterfall!). The kids thoroughly enjoyed playing for hours in the property’s open grassy spaces, and although we didn’t spend that much time indoors, we all had delightfully peaceful nights sleep in the thoroughly comfortable beds, with facilities that were a perfect mix of modern convenience and cosy warmth. Also, with so many places to visit just a short drive away, it was a splendid introduction to Europe for all of us. And to cap it all, Johnny and Lynn were the perfect hosts. They were such generous and friendly company, and readily available when needed. They always seemed to know when we either required anything, or when we were just happy to be left alone. Astounding. We can’t wait to go back.

Looks can be deceiving
Be very wary of properties that do not show internal images (bathroom bedding etc) This accomodation is a great vantage point but requires proper maintenance. Like many of the properties Advertised online, it did not live up to the creative photos posted on the many sites as well as their own website. Kitchen cupboards stink of mildew. There is no second bathroom! There is a very crude room down stairs with a pre-WWII shower and a second water closet with no light or ventilation. Internet access is near non existent! Never saw a bike or a canoe!!! No view from this property but Le gite de Parc (two bedrooms sleeps four) looks a much better proposition from the outside. Do not attempt going to this joint without your own transportation. So long as you are prepared to travel with a hire car or you and do not want a place to hang out and relax - it is adequate.

A little slice of heaven........
What a beautiful location. The river, cottages and gardens made for a stunning sight -cherry blossom, camellias, lilac - just glorious. We were lucky with the weather too- many al fresco meals on our little patio overlooking the mill and river. Johnny and Lynn were most helpful without being intrusive -nothing was too much trouble. The village of Le Beny-Bocage has everything you need, including butcher, bakers (2) , pharmacy,well-stocked greengrocer, a small 'Poste' bar and a pizza restaurant! We took our dog and there is a very convenient vet in the next village - Beaulieu - that happily did the required Pet Passport work for 30 euros. We spent 11 days lazing around and enjoying the magical location. It should have been ten days but we (I!) messed up our booking - forgetting that we should have been leaving on the Tuesday .I was mortified but Johnny and Lynn were so kind and very relaxed about the mistake.Of course it helped there was no-one due in immediately after us but they were very generous in allowing us to stay on the extra night.John loved the fishing, Griff, our dog, loved the river and Lynn's dog Az (as well as pinching Lynn's laundry!) and I just loved it all. Thank you.
