About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Garth Cottage-spacious family and dog friendly, two bedrooms both with ensuites.

Garth Cottage is a superb two-bedroom cottage on one level and boasts a very picturesque and serene location.

Garth Cottage has two bedrooms both with ensuite bathrooms. The master bedroom has a king size bed with an ensuite bathroom (complete with a corner bath with overhead shower). The twin room has an ensuite shower. Both bedrooms are made up with luxurious bedding and soft fluffy towels are also provided.

Extra luxury is added with a spacious, light and airy beamed lounge, which adjoins the extremely well equipped kitchen with dining area. The kitchen has everything provided to cook up a feast and the views from the kitchen won't disappoint. The living area has a smart TV and a huge selection of books, DVD's and board games if it's a rainy day or you just don't want to leave the cottage! Arched windows and doors also lead onto a lovely south-facing patio, which provides glorious views of the Cleveland Hills and is complete with garden furniture, barbecue and a large lawn area. Gorgeous spring lambs can be found in these fields that will definitely keep you entertained, they are a favourite with children in the Easter holidays. There is a lovely pub in the nearest village which is one mile away and also a village shop. There are plenty of beautiful countryside walks directly from the cottage.

Garth Cottage can be booked with Meadow Cottage for groups of 8 people- ideal for family get togethers.

We are located in County Durham between Bishop Auckland and Newton Aycliffe, only 8 miles from the City Centre of Durham. We are close to local attractions such as Auckland Castle, 'Kynren- an epic tale of England', Durham Castle and Cathedral, Beamish Museum, Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle, Newcastle, Weardale and the Durham Coast. The Yorkshire Dales, High Force and Teesdale are also well worth a visit.

Lovely countryside cottage
If you’re looking for a lovely quiet break out in the open countryside of County Durham, this is ideal. Also not far to explore places like Durham. Two bedrooms, each with en-suite suits a family group. Living room and kitchen are a good size with most of what you need (though note there is only a fridge - no freezer and no washing machine). Had a comfortable, quiet stay.

Superb cottage in a beautiful location, easy commute into Durham, multiple roads to choose from, journey time was 15 mins or less. Property is very spacious and comfortable, delightfully warm on arrival, nice welcome pack waiting on counter including a lovely bottle of red. Would definitely stay again and recommend to anybody looking for a great location.

Beautiful location for a peaceful, quiet stay. Lovely cottage but feel it needs a few little jobs doing to bring it up to full marks. Ideal location for visiting the North's attractions.

A relaxing break.
The cottage is lovely and has everything that you could possibly need. It felt very clean and safe. It was ideal for a break for my elderly mother who has mobility issues and has been shielding since March. Sitting on the patio watching the sheep was very relaxing.

The Perfect Cozy Country Cottage!!!
Traveling from DC for our older daughter’s PhD graduation in Durham (and engagement), I was looking for beautiful & spacious accommodations for our family of 5. We found it at Merrington Grange! Very comfortable and surprisingly spacious cottage with two large bedrooms each with en suite full baths, full open concept, eat-in kitchen and main room opening out onto a picturesque stone patio with blooming flower pots, table & chairs, and rose garden, complete with baby bunnies, fluffy sheep & lush green rolling fields. I couldn’t have conjured a more picture perfect country cottage only minutes from town but feeling as if we were worlds away from our urban hustle & bustle! Sue Hodgson is a brilliant hostess welcoming us with a bottle of bubbly, chocolates and of course delicious biscuits to go with the lovely tea she provides. Best of all was Sue’s hand-written welcome and congratulations note. As a family we have traveled all over the world (to every continent now except Antarctica — maybe next year) and have never received such warm hospitality in such a lovely place. We will certainly be back!!! Thank you, Sue!!!

Great stay in the Northeast
We loved Garth Cottage in Merrington Grange. Well appointed, very clean and cozy with easy access to surrounding areas. Sue was a very responsive host and makes sure you have everything you need. Be aware that you are in the countryside so internet service is somewhat spotty (no fault of the owner). We would happily book for another trip!

Lovely cottage in a great location
The property was very clean and comfortable. It is situated in a very quiet location with uninterrupted views over farmland from the living area, but within easy reach of the nearby towns. It also offers easy access to the main routes, making exploring the area easy. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Garth Cottage, and hope to return in the future.

Cosy home from home with beautiful view
We loved our stay in Garth Cottage. It was very comfortable, warm (the local weather was sunny but bracing!) and well equipped and the view over gently rolling hills was incredibly peaceful. It was well placed for our family events in Durham and Middlesbrough and for lots of sightseeing. We hope to return in the future.
