Peaceful get away
This is a very comfortable and well equipped cottage in a beautiful setting overlooking and just a short stroll down to pretty and serene Porter Lake. We throughly enjoyed kayaking daily - the small island in the lake that the owners’ association maintains is magical to explore and swim from - as well as having a couple of evening campfires in the fire pit accompanied by the sound of a loon, an owl and a moose! Beds were comfortable and the house had everything we needed. Alyce, the owner, was extremely responsive, attentive and helpful and made some great suggestions for things to see in the area. Our top tip for future guests, which we learned the hard way, is not to leave the screened windows open and house lights on at night as there are bugs in Maine that are small enough to fit through window screen!!!

Winter Ski Vacation
Our family of 4 had a wonderful stay for the week. Each day we cooked a great breakfast in the well-stocked kitchen before heading out to cross country ski at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center (35min drive). By early evening, we were back, snuggled into the cottage, drying boots by the heater, kicking back with snacks and games. Dinners in and some TV before cozy sleep. No bad fold-away couch in the hotel room. No nasty spare bed blankets. No hard pillows. No hanging ski clothes on the curtain rods. This cottage rental was definitely the way to go and will be again. The beautiful frozen lake, bald eagles, and sunrise over the hills were bonuses.

Wonderful getaway
My girlfriend and I rented this place on a whim for an extended getaway weekend. Alyce was very accommodating for our late arrival time and an early morning departure. There were even fresh made cookies when we arrived! The place is very nice and the area is far enough out of town to be able to relax without anyone to bother you.

Lovely Cozy Beautiful lake home
Our stay was fantastic. Home is very beautifully designed and appointed. Very cozy and clean, comfortable beds, modern kitchen, gorgeous views of the lake and the mountains. Alyce and Jon are amazing and welcoming hosts. We visited in January and it was like a winter wonderland. Easy ride from a lakehouse for a ski trip to the sugarloaf mountain resort. Loved everything about it. I can imagine that in a summer or autumn its just as awesome. Unbeatable value and comfort. Thank you so much!

The Cavanaugh’s have taste!
Alyce met us just as we arrived and was SO FRIENDLY, polite and nice. The camp was extremely clean, well decorated, had everything you could want and is just beautiful! The owners are only a phone call away for anything. There is plenty of seating, refrigerator and freezer storage (no need for a bunch of coolers) and entertainment. The only criticism we would have (likely our own misunderstanding) is that we thought the camp was waterfront and while it does have a gorgeous view, and water access with great neighbors by the dock, it is not directly on the water. The Cavanaugh’s did provide a golf cart to make getting to the water super easy, fun and fast. Overall, a GREAT place to stay! Would HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Thank you Cavanaugh’s for sharing.

The call of the loons, the eagle passing by, the Milky Way and shooting stars! Kayaks to wander Porter lake and upstream to see the massive beaver dam was a treat. Floating in the perfect clear water. The clean mountain air. We loved this wonderful property! The house had everything we needed. Well equipped kitchen, comfortable furnishings as well as bed. And the chandeliers! Relaxation was achieved! Thank you Alyce and John.
