This is a lovely, old B& B with much character. The hosts are gracious, friendly and helpful. The front room (room where you can relax, read, etc) is tastefully decorated suited to the age of the house. Music for relaxation is piped into this room. The breakfast provides a good range of healthy options. This is a self service (except for coffee and tea) breakfast. While hard boiled eggs are available, I would have appreciated being served something other than self serve - e.g. pancakes or choice eggs
The rooms (we stayed in 2 different rooms) are not as tastefully decorated like the reception room. While the furniture is adequate, it would be nice if there were a few pieces that reflected the charm of this old house. This is an old house but some of the maintenance has not been kept up. Taps drip. The caulking in tub and shower is missing in spots and black in others. This should not have any impact on your stay but I thought knowing this in advance may help you with your choice
There are pluses and negatives about the location. This is a quiet location out of the downtown area. Dining is very close and you have a wide range of choices. You can also choose from a wide range of takeouts. I recommend that you are good at walking if you stay here or be prepared to take taxis. It takes 30 - 40 minutes to walk to the quay and opera house. Coming back, you have to climb 106 steps. We took a taxi a couple of time (about $16 per trip)
