Tiny Cottage at Goat House Farm

Goat House Farm is a 501(c)3 nonprofit educational farm. All profits go toward supporting the mission of the farm.

Come and de-stress by snuggling our goats. These bouncing bundles of joy are guaranteed to make you smile! We also have chickens, peacocks, and a pig. We are near Tallahassee but in a rural area, down a bumpy dirt road, but we promise the trip is worth it. Kayaking and hiking right off the property, plus beautiful sunsets on the lake.

Make yourself at home in our unique tiny cottage with kitchenette, private bath with shower, and heat/AC. Luxury queen size bed. We also have a queen tatami mattress for extra guests.

Kitchenette is stocked with standard cooking supplies and fruit is available in season. You can also pre-order fresh biscuits and honey butter for breakfast. TV, toaster oven, french press, and refrigerator are in the unit, along with kitchen essentials. There is a microwave in the common area. We also have a small outdoor kitchen area with grill, stove, utensils, basic cooking supplies (oil, salt, pepper, condiments),and fire pit

Note, there are no windows in the cottage. It was built originally as a storm shelter! You will sleep really well with the thick walls and no city lights! The private entryway does have windows that let some light into the room.

Wifi, laundry, and smart/cable TV.

Private and group goat yoga classes may be available during your stay, just ask us ahead of time!

*****Unless you re a return guest, you must arrive before 7pm.*******
Remember, there is an hour time difference if coming from the west. Late arrivals interfere with our milking routine and we cannot stop milking to show you around. Farm folks also hit the hay pretty early! Please do not book and then tell us you will be arriving late. Thank you.

Feel free to message if you have questions! The herd looks forward to meeting you!!

Additional rules
Visiting the Farm
Our daily schedule revolves around your arrival. Please let us know when you have an ETA so we can be sure someone is here to greet you.
1. NUMBER ONE: Be respectful to the animals. They are always a priority here. Use caution around the goats. While they are friendly and we’ve never had a problem, they are horned and can be dangerous. Any abuse toward the animals, physical or verbal, will terminate your stay immediately.
2. Children are not allowed in the pasture or chicken coops without adult supervision.
3. Please use chemical products minimally. We are an organic farm and what you use eventually goes into the soil and the lake.
4. Keep all trash in a closed container. The wild critters will find it and make a mess. All recycling, with the exception of styrofoam should go in the green recycling can. Please do recycle. The well water is double filtered and perfectly safe to drink, so bottled water isn't necessary.
5. Do not litter on the farm, in fact if you happen to find any garbage please help us out and pick it up so the animals don’t eat it! Please dispose of all your trash in the correct bins when you checkout.
6. The refrigerator in the common room is a community fridge for campers and workcampers. Feel free to leave your food there when you check out and not in the cottage fridge.
7. The gates to the pasture should ALWAYS be latched and looped. If one goat sees it open, he or she will call everyone else and they will make for the woods!
8. We strive for an environmentally sustainable lifestyle. Try to keep electric consumption in mind, and turn off anything not in use. Turn all lights and AC off when you check out.
9. Do not feed any of the animals meat products, chocolate, raw beans, avocado seeds, or anything you wouldn't eat yourself (moldy bread, spoiled food, etc). Do not feed them around the pig. He gets food aggressive.
10. Campfires must never be left unattended.
11. DO NOT speed down the driveway. Sometimes kids get out and often chickens are hanging out along the way.
12. Dogs are not allowed in the pasture. NO EXCEPTIONS. EVER. Dogs must be dog friendly. We have a livestock guardian that roams the property and loves other dogs.
13. No smoking in barn, coops, manger, nursery, pasture, cottage, or in our tents.
14. If you have any issues at all, please let us know and we will make it right. Negative reviews are particularly difficult for hosts to recover from! We pride ourselves on offering a unique and comfortable camping experience and want you to be happy!
15. All tips go to our volunteer workcampers!

Upon check out please take out trash and turn off all lights, ac, or heat. That is all. No chore list!

Very rustic and secluded - Roughing it with Goats
The directions to the farm could have been clearer but the way was hampered because of tornadoes having hit the area just the week before. I would have liked hearing from the owner the day of the storm when she knew of the downed trees and power lines and huge ruts in the driveway that would cause some vehicles much difficulty getting through, mine included. The farm was rustic and shabby. The access to the cottage was a challenge in several ways. I was concerned if I was going to encounter poison ivy on the path to the front door and the several places where the ground and steps were uneven. The picture provided didn’t match the reality once we got into the cottage. There was a latch on the outside of the heavy door as well as inside. My wife was afraid that someone could lock us in the cabin from the outside and we would be trapped, since there were no windows or emergency egress options for us. The bathroom had two steps from the main floor of the cottage and I don’t remember seeing anything in the description telling me of the stairs. I hate stairs, especially inside my bedroom to get to the bathroom. The kitchen area was nice but the electric hot plate in the picture was replaced with an electric fry pan. The French press coffee maker would have been nicer if there were instructions for people like us who don’t use one on a regular basis and didn’t want to have to resort to YouTube videos on how to use it. The bed was the one redeeming feature of the cottage.

Melissa was a wonderful host. Her farm was a lot of fun. The goats were entertaining, and Cam, her dog, was a sweetheart. The cottage had everything we needed. It was very clean. The biggest challenge was the drive in. We had two different rain storms that made the dirt roads more challenging, but we were able to navigate them without any real trouble. We wished we had more time to hike around the lake. We will save it for another time!

Farm Style Getaway
This was exactly what I was looking for. Quiet time in the country away from the hustle and bustle. I enjoyed hearing the sounds of the roosters and goats and having time slow down for me for a few days. Melissa went over the house rules and gave me free rein to visit the goats whenever I wanted. She also took quite a bit of time the first day to answer all my questions about life with goats. I would like to have my own goats in the near future and Melissa gave me lots of good information to think about. My goal was to get a feel for what farm life might be while taking some time to decompress from my fast-paced city life. I wish I could have stayed longer, but even a few days worked magic to slow things down. My dog also had a blast. If you are looking for a rustic, authentic farm getaway, this is just the place!

Farm Stay
Goat House farm is a peaceful working farm located on Lake Talquin adjacent to a Florida State Forest. Learn all about dairy goats or relax beside a campfire after a hike. Fresh eggs are available daily. My stay was during kidding season and I was able to meet the goats and help with their care. It was fun and educational.

Wonderful Experience
This was more than just a stay it was an adventure. I loved waking up to the roosters crowing. And hurried to get dressed so I could go spend time with the kitties and goats. I was in town to visit family but the highlight of my trip was the mornings spent with the goats. The cottage had a wonderful cabin feel and met all our needs. We will be staying here again!

Rustic cabin
Easy checkin. Very friendly owner and responds immediately. The cabin itself is clean. Bed is comfortable. Bathroom was spotless. The road is sandy and bumpy getting to the property off the main highway though and would not be ideal for a small sports car to navigate through. Uber/Lyft will not pick up or drop off at this property. Roosters will probably wake you up but remember that you are on a working farm type of property. Best value for accommodations during peak FSU events.

A great place to stay off the beaten path
My 9 year old son and I stayed here for a night and had a lot of fun. We played with the goats and the farm kitties and it was a fun little adventure for us. The accommodations were minimal but they were all we needed. We enjoyed being in a quiet rural area surrounded by nature. The bed wound up being very comfy and the little home was quaint but inviting. I will caution people though to bring your own food, preferably something already cooked. The location is pretty far from any restaurants or markets and there is no stove inside the home. Fortunately there was a hot plate and a toaster oven and we had brought some provisions, so we made do with those. Also, there were no eggs to be purchased like we thought so I was really glad we had packed extra food. Just be prepared in case you get hungry but otherwise, it was a great little getaway.

Amazing Experience
Melissa is a great host. Her passion and knowledge is truly inspiring and infectious. It was so much fun learning about and interacting with the animals on the farm. I didn’t think you could bond with a goat after only a few days! I miss them already and it’s only been 6 hours. The cabin is quite spacious and comfortable. The use of the washer and dryer was a definite bonus. Thank you so much.

Fun weekday trip
We stayed for two nights, three (ish) days. The cabin is small and exactly as it looks in the photos; it's very comfortable and has everything you'd need. The goats and cats were a lot of fun to spend time with, and we really enjoyed being able to do things at our leisure. We enjoyed the biscuits and cookies! Thank you for a fun time!

An extraordinary experience!
This place was at the wnd of a long and bumpy gravel road with water in the dips because of a rain the day before. Welcome to back country rural florida ! We arrived at 3 pm and our hostess had some time to show us the goats and tell us about the larger vision of an educational farm and ahow us to our cabin which was cozy and comfortable. We delighted in it all! Even the roosters crowing in the ewrly morning ! We spent time hanging out with the goats and visiting with another family from Switzerland who were camping on the farm. We ordered the eggs and goat milk fresh biscuits eith honey butter for breakfast. I used an electric skillet in our tiny kitchen to make the eggs. We made french press coffee. Everything we needed was there. There is a nearby common room fixed up for visiters to relax on couches. And visit with others who might also cone in.

We were looking for a rest stop halfway between home and our destination so I found this adorable listing for a great price. Please note: follow your GPS it will seem like you are completely lost but you're not. It will get you there just look for the sign. Once you arrive, park and enter the gate to get to your cabin. It was dark and I'm in a wheelchair so my hubby had to pull me backwards but we made it just fine. It was really cold but the heater provided made it nice and toasty. The cabin is so cute and it feels like you are in the mountains. Go to bed super early because the roosters start crowning around 3 am lol! We woke up and had the buttermilk biscuits and goat milk fudge all were super delicious and so fresh. Melissa was very nice and accommodating. We hope to visit again soon and join in on the goat yoga!
