On record as early as 1737 as a working malt house supplying malt to the local area, the property is full of character whilst benefiting from recent refurbishment. The focal point of the sitting room must be the inglenook fireplace and log burner for extra warmth after a busy day exploring. In warmer weather, guests can spend their evenings outside in the private courtyard garden or on the small lawn adjacent to the private gravelled parking area across the quiet road. There are three bedrooms, two double (with built-in wardrobes) and one single, ensuring that the cottage sleeps up to 5 guests in comfort. The bathroom upstairs has a bath, powerful “rainfall” shower, toilet, hand basin, large heated towel rail and illuminated mirror.

Private off-road parking is available for two vehicles on the gravelled area opposite the side entrance to the property (across the quiet single-track road).

The Old Malthouse is strictly non-smoking.

Local amenities

As well as hosting the Bakelite Museum and one of the stations on the West Somerset Steam Railway, this small town also boasts a cafe, two supermarkets, a number of public houses, a library, hairdressers, fish and chip shop, pizzeria, petrol station and Post Office amongst other businesses.
Minehead is the main town in West Somerset, and sits around 10 miles from the Old Malthouse. Here you will find the larger supermarkets and petrol stations (Tesco and Morrisons are both on the outskirts of the town), most major high street banks with cash machines, plus a range of other shops.

Arrival and departure
The Old Malthouse is available for week-long bookings and short breaks. The cottage will be ready from 4 pm on the day you arrive. Please depart by 10 am on the last day of your stay. Please leave the property clean and tidy so that we can guarantee it will be ready on time for our next guests.

Indoor Description
The kitchen/dining room is fitted with a halogen hob, electric oven, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, microwave, kettle, and toaster. There is a full complement of saucepans, kitchen utensils, cutlery, crockery and glasses.
In the sitting-room guests can enjoy a 32” LED TV with built in DVD and Freeview channels. Wireless broadband is available throughout the cottage.
A high chair can be made available, please request this at time of booking.
There is ample space in the main bedroom for guests to put up a travel cot if required (cot is not provided).
There is no stair gate in place at this property and the stairs are characteristically uneven, we suggest that if a child is unable to hold on to banister then The Old Malthouse would not be suitable for them - sorry.

There is also a log burner in the sitting room and a complimentary supply of logs, kindling and firelighters to get you started. Further logs can be purchased locally if required.

Bed linen, duvets, blankets and towels are provided, but please bring your own beach towels if you require them for day trips.

Escape the rat race
It is a very cosy , good sized cottage situated in a lovely quiet hamlet with a choice of country walks from the door. It was convenient for exploring the coast and moors and other places of interest. We enjoyed our stay but the courtyard area really needs updating

Special Birthday
The Old Malthouse had everything you could ask for. Having the woodburner a light made it even more special. The Notley Arms is a must for food and drink. You will need to phone to make sure they are open, but it is worth the wait. Would I book the cottage again......YES I WOULD.

Family get together
Lovely building and nice place to stay. Surroundings lovely and peaceful. The cleanliness was not great, kitchen looked clean but on closer inspection was dirty for example i used a wipe to wipe the kitchen top and it was a dirty brown colour, the kettle had not been emptied and there was a puddle of water in the bottom of the fridge. The bin in the bathroom had not been emptied. Having said all of this once we had cleaned the kitchen, we had a lovely holiday and the beds were comfortable.

Peaceful village, relaxing stay
We stayed in the cottage as a family of 5. We found it to be a very peaceful location and the lounge and bedrooms were comfortable-great for a good night’s sleep! We made good use of the games and DVDs for the kids in the evenings or on wet days, so these were an unexpected bonus. We visited several areas within 30-60 mins drive from the cottage.

Lovely characterful cosy cottage feel, with plenty of space
We had a wonderful time at the Old Malthouse, the property was everything we were looking for. We were very grateful for the addition of welcome biscuits & a bottle of wine chilling. Friendly and helpful communication with the owners and management company, would definitely recommend this property although be mindful there is not shop in the village so a car is essential unless you bring all provisions with you, like we did. The only reason we marked neighbourhood as 4/5 stars was because there was dog mess on every corner of the little hamlet of Monksilver. The location of the Old Malthouse was just as we’d anticipated and was convenient for Watchet and Dunster and Exmoor. The only thing to mention was that the heater in the kitchen wasn’t working during our stay however we didn’t contact the owners to give them chance to resolve this as it didn’t bother us that much. All in all we would highly recommend the old Malthouse and would definitely stay there again!
