Lovely cottage situated in 40 beautiful acres

Lower Willsworthy Cottage has been featured and recommended by BBC Country file magazine and Barbour clothing.
Situated within 40 beautiful acres, the property is a warm, traditional, detached converted stone barn, offering luxury, peace, tranquillity and stunning views all around. The property is the sole holiday home on the estate, so you don't have to share the lovely gardens and grounds with anybody else!

There are many great features for everybody. Relax and unwind by the Willsworthy Brook in the secluded guest gardens or enjoy some lovely walks and picnics around the grounds. There is your own stretch of the splendid River Tavy to enjoy (with single bank fishing rights). You can even take a dip in our rock pool, the perfect place to cool off on a hot summer’s day or why not try your hand at Clay Pigeon shooting, which is available onsite. In the evening you can take in the stunning views of Dartmoor and gorgeous sunsets from the courtyard seating area.

The estate also has a stable yard and an infamous Shetland Pony named Jerry, who is perfect for younger guests to pat and groom. Alternatively, you can explore the moors on horse back as there is a horse and pony trekking centre just ten minutes drive away. If horses aren't your thing, why not take an Alpaca for a walk at Lydford Gorge Alpacas.

Nearby is the award winning market town of Tavistock with its famous pannier market and plethora of shops, pubs and restaurants. The beaches on the south coast of Devon and Cornwall are easily reached. Nearby attractions include National Trust properties such as Lydford Gorge and Castle Drogo or visit Becky Falls and historic Plymouth, with its Hoe, Barbican and National Marine Aquarium.

All of the cottage accommodation is located on the first floor, except for the twin bedroom which is located on the ground floor. The great benefit of this arrangement is that each and every room has a wonderful countryside view. Luxury bedding, soaps and fluffy towels are provided, as is free unlimited Wi-Fi.

A superb fortnight in stunningly beautiful & tranquil surroundings
This beautifully appointed property is only about three miles from the Mary Tavy Inn on the A386, meaning it's not only easy to reach but also you can submerge yourself and forget the outside world in an area of outstanding natural beauty without effort. The house itself was immaculately kept and the kitchen was well stocked with kit. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. We enjoyed swimming in the Teign river which forms part of the farm's boundary and climbing up the Tors was hot but enjoyable work. Sitting in the garden reading a book next to the brook was very relaxing and watching the moon rise over the moor was a treat. Thanks to the heatwave, we only ate a couple of dinners inside, with the bbq getting a lot of use. There's so much space and the air is so clean that it was difficult to leave and drive home on the motorway. We all loved our stay and are looking forward to returning when we can.

What a wonderful place to stay. Mike and Sophie are very welcoming and helpful. Loved being able to walk around the fields and down to the river. Visited the horses every day, especially liked Jerry the Shetland. My husband and son enjoyed clay pigeon shooting expertly managed by Mike. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

Amazing stay at a fantastic property
Just on our way home from an amazing holiday in Devon. Would highly recommend Lower Willsworthy Holiday Cottage, Dartmoor as the place to stay. We had 40 acres of grounds just for us to explore. We swam... OK I dipped my toe and Lily braved the cold water in the rock pool, we had picnics and bbqs. But the best part was seeing how happy the kids were being surrounded by the animals. Lily had the best time feeding Jerry the pony and the other horses that lived there ( Lower Willsworthy Stables Dartmoor), helping with walking the horses in the fields, feeding the chickens and ducks and collecting the eggs each morning, walking Baggy the dog...the list goes on! Whilst I sit in traffic on the M5 with Max screaming in the back I sit with a very happy heart of all the memories we have created. 😍

Outstanding holiday home near Dartmoor
We have just returned from a wonderful holiday at Lower Willsworthy. Mike and Sophia were so kind and helpful (Mike even unpacked our Tesco shop which arrived early!). The holiday cottage was spotless and equiped with everything we needed and the attention to detail was fantastic with fresh flowers, fresh duck eggs and homemade Easter cupcakes. The children really enjoyed going to see the horses, the chickens and the ducks every day and Sophia even let them groom Jerry a couple of times which they loved. It is such a special place and the views are amazing! We will definitely be returning. Thank you so much Mike and Sophia!

A perfect stay!
I would thoroughly recommend a stay at this stunning cottage where you get an experience rather than just a place to stay. The cottage is on 40 acres of ground which has paddocks and a river that you can swim in. Close to the cottage are stables where you can go and pet the horses and a peaceful lake. You could never leave the grounds and have a very fulfilling and restful stay. Mike and Sofia were on hand to answer any questions and they gave us a great tour of the land. Sofia makes the best lemon drizzle cake I've ever had and we got to eat eggs laid by the hens nestled near to the cottage. If this all sounds very idyllic, it's because it is! The view from the courtyard as we ate dinner was like no other. The cottage is in a great part of the world with easy access to the main sights of Devon and only a stones throw away from Cornwall. We can't wait to come back.

Wonderful cottage in the countryside
Fantastic cottage with the main living area and two bedrooms on the first floor, a further bedroom on the ground floor. The private guest garden was amazing and the only noise is from the birds and the trickle of Willsworthy Brook at the bottom of the garden. There is also access to other areas of the owner's estate including a plunge pool on the river Tavy, a duck pond and lots of areas to sit and admire the views across Dartmoor. A fabulous place to stay along with a very friendly and helpful owner.

Lovely cottage in amazing grounds
Very well equipped , exceptionally clean cottage with plenty of space for our family of 5. The grounds are truly amazing with a secluded river for swimming on hot days - we all loved this . The owners Sophia and Mike are fantastic hosts in ensuring you have a memorable stay and on hand to guide and help when needed. From our arrival to lovely home made cake , to a tour of the grounds, welcoming our girls during our week to their horses , they really did go the extra mile . Our youngest is absolutely smitten with Jerry the Shetland pony. We were blessed with great weather and the location is superb . We enjoyed days out walking, cycling directly from the cottage , Tamar mountain bike trails, Wistman woods and great beach days surfing/ bodyboarding at Bantham and Polzeath all easily accessible. We are looking forward to returning! Thank you very much Sophia and Mike . We have taken wonderful memories.

A most relaxing week at Lower Willsworthy
We have just spent a fantastic week at Lower Willsworthy. The property is outstanding and is set in beautiful grounds. We were very warmly greeted by Mike and Sophie and shown around the property and the extensive grounds. We had our own private garden, outdoor area for eating and relaxing as well as being able to explore the surrounding area. Sophie had baked us a lovely lemon drizzle cake and also left some duck eggs. Our girls had several riding lessons from the very patient Sophie which they thoroughly enjoyed. Both my husband and I tried some clay pigeon shooting with Mike which was a very worthwhile experience. He is very thorough and his safety standards are second to none. They treated all of us with the utmost respect and were very kind and pleasant towards our children. Mike even created a small football pitch for our youngest. Locally we visited Tamar trails, Morwellham Quay, Dartmouth Harbour, Tavistock and can honestly say we were not disappointed. We also enjoyed a few drinks and pool in the Mary Tavy pub where the locals were very pleasant and good company. On a final note if you couldn't relax and enjoy yourself here then you would be unable to do it anywhere else. The accommodation was extremely comfortable and very spacious. Thumbs up from all of us. Don't miss out on this gem.

Fantastic cottage in a beautiful, peaceful location
We had an amazing stay at this property. The cottage was absolutely lovely, spacious, clean, comfortable and quiet. Mike took us on a full tour of the grounds, which were impressive and really had it all - a stream for swimming, a pond, horses, stables, walking trails and a private garden for the cottage. This was a perfect base for for us to enjoy the countryside and explore Devon, including the towns and beaches. Mike and Sophia were very welcoming hosts and were there to help in any way. We would highly recommend this property and would love to return ourselves someday.

Idyllic, restful and restorative week
Our week in the adorable and spacious cottage at Lower Willsworthy Farm was one of our top vacations yet. The farm — home to a variety of happy, well-kept animals — is the tidiest, most beautiful such place I have ever seen, a reflection of the handsomely restored stone house we stayed in. Owners Mike and Sophie — lovely folks who are perfectly-suited for their lifestyle — gave us a warm welcome (as well as ducks’ eggs and homemade cake) and took us on a tour the second day, which was vital as the property is extensive and comprises innumerable gorgeous natural features. One such treasure is the small brook close to the cottage, where our 3 kids, aged 9-12, had loads of fun playing. Farther out there are places to access the crystal clear River Tavy, and on a hot sunny day, that’s just what we did. We also enjoyed walks and greeting the ponies, hens, and a friendly black cat. One afternoon we arranged a short introductory riding lesson with Sophie. A kinder, more patient and positive instructor you won’t find. It’s evident that Sophie really loves working with her animals and her guests. The kids enjoyed it immensely and went riding farther afield later that week at another local stable. Other highlights of the week include visits to Lydford Gorge, Launceston castle, Cotehele, Tavistock, and Plymouth and the Mayflower museum. This region is full of family- friend attractions. The cottage and farm are almost mythically beautiful, and we will certainly return if we can!

An amazing stay - peaceful, beautiful location.
We have just returned from another fantastic stay at Sophia and Mike's farm cottage. The house is immaculately clean, and everything works perfectly in the cottage. The location, adjacent to Dartmoor is great, as we were able to get straight up into the high areas for walking with panoramic views. Our daughters loved horse riding at Cholwell riding stables, which is 10 minutes away. Also, there are plenty of great pubs within a 10 minute drive of the property. The highlight for our daughters was a chance to get one to one horseback coaching with Sophia in the covered paddock on the property. She was amazing with our girls. The outside space of the property is stunning with fields, a stream and farm animals, perfect for an evening stroll. It's quiet and peaceful, so along with the good quality beds and bedding, we slept really well. The kitchen has everything you could need, and the living areas are modern, comfortable, and spacious. Finally, Sophia and Mike are perfect hosts. They are available if you need them, and always friendly and cheerful. If you are considering renting this property.... you should really do it and we are planning to return for our summer holiday next year!

A peaceful and relaxing setting
Lower Willsworthy Barn is in a beautiful and very quiet setting. We had a warm welcome from Mike and Sophie, the owners, and enjoyed the cake and eggs that they had left us. We had access to the whole of the farm, including a secluded private picnic spot and a stretch of river for swimming (bracing, but fun). There is walking from the door with a variety of habitats - open Moorland, river, woodland and farmland. The property is in easy reach of excellent shopping in Tavistock - don't miss the cheese shop - and fantastic food at the Peter Tavy Inn. The property was clean and comfortable. We hope to return soon to recharge our batteries again.

Wonderful cottage on the edge of Dartmoor, with great views, lovely hosts
We spent 8 days at Lower Willsworthy, and had a grand time. The cottage is spotless and very comfortable, with everything one could want and all in working order. There are fine views of Dartmoor and it's an easy walk to the edge of the moor itself. We really enjoyed watching the parade of horses, ducks, chickens and Canada geese going past our windows. Sophie and Mike, the owners, are exceptionally friendly and helpful, and it was a real pleasure to talk with them. Tavistock is a neat town to wander around in; we spent a lot of time in the market and the town museum. On Mike's recommendation, we had lunch at the Peter Tavy Inn (3-4 miles away) one day; it was excellent. This is one of the nicest places we've stayed at in our five recent summers in England; we would love to come back.
