Teatro Gayarre Tours and Activities

Teatro Gayarre featuring heritage architecture

Reserve your seat for a theatrical performance at this city center theater, a beautiful building with a long and fascinating history.

Treat yourself to a night of culture at the Teatro Gayarre, a leading performing arts venue in the center of Pamplona. It presents a year-round program of plays, musicals, concerts and dance shows by local, national and in-house companies.

Teatro Gayarre first opened its doors in its current location in 1932. Previously the theater was located on the Plaza del Castillo but it was demolished when the city underwent a period of expansion. It was previously known as the Teatro Principal but was renamed after Sebastián Julián Gayarre Garjón. This 19th-century Spanish opera singer was a popular tenor of his day with a large international reputation and following.

Visit the theater's official website to see what's on during your time in Navarra. Usually, plays are in Spanish or Euskara, the Basque language. Purchase tickets online or in person at the box office. Theater cards can also be purchased offering discounts on future performances.

Pay the fee to join a 1-hour guided tour of the theater including the stage and the auditorium. Note that these are only for groups of more than 20 people and are conducted in either Spanish or Basque.

Take your seats in the attractive auditorium, which has a capacity for nearly 900 theatergoers. It is a typical horseshoe-shaped amphitheater and has seats spread across four floors.

If you are interested in the theater's history ask to use its library, which has a collection of scripts and other pieces of literature by writers from Navarra.

Reach Teatro Gayarre by public transportation or drive and park in nearby paid parking garages. Consider arriving early to explore other attractions that are within an easy walking distance. They include the Plaza del Castillo and the Plaza de Toros. This bullring is the final destination of the Running of the Bulls, a well-known festival that involves people running through the streets of Pamplona in front of bulls.
