The Deep is an enormous aquarium within a jagged, silvery modern building on the mouth of the River Hull. It has an array of hands-on activities for the whole family as well as a restaurant with views of the tanks. Bring your kids to play with the fascinating aquatic creatures and interactive displays.
Snap photos of the glorious modern structure that looks a bit like an iceberg at the point where the River Hull and the Humber River meet. Enter the aquarium and make your way to the icy world of the penguins. The Awakening Seas section showcases a range of fossils that reveal information on our own evolution and the history of the oceans. See the brightly colored tropical fish amid mangrove trees and corals in the Lagoon of Light.
Walk through the viewing tunnel and take the underwater elevator to see sharks and rays all around you. Learn about the unusual lives of aquatic snails in the Slime section. Other intriguing parts include the Amazon Flooded Forest, the Bugs area and the Cool Seas.
Dine at the Two Rivers Restaurant, which is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. It has a vista of some of the exhibits, providing a fascinating glimpse into the nocturnal ecosystems. Consider purchasing some of the fun, cute and entertaining items on display in the Deepartment Store.
Purchase tickets to the aquarium for the day or consider a pass for free return within the year. Receive discounts for kids and free entry for toddlers. Note that you can donate to the site, whose motto is “For conservation, not profit.” The aquarium opens daily from morning until early evening.
The Deep is on the eastern side of the mouth of the River Hull as it enters the Humber River. Ride a bus to a stop on the flank of the river or walk southeast from the railway station for 20 minutes to get here. See some of the nearby sights, such as the Arctic Corsair, Holy Trinity Church and the Museum of Club Culture.
