Tiahura Beach is a palm-dotted stretch of sandy beach fronting the western edge of Tiahura commune. With its gorgeous lagoon views, soft sands and leafy coconut palms, Tiahura Beach captures Moorea’s magnificent appeal. Take advantage of the beach’s long jetty and peer into the tropical waters or join a snorkeling or scuba-diving tour.
Spend some time strolling along Tiahura Beach’s sandy expanse. Lush tropical vegetation crowds its eastern border, while the long jetty stretches out from the west. Find a shady spot beneath a palm tree or pick somewhere to soak up the sunshine. The beach looks out to Moorea’s tranquil lagoon and the narrow channel that skirts the island. Watch yachts and motorboats cruising in the sapphire waters and coming in to moor at the beach’s jetty. Swim in the gentle waters and look back at the commune and its pretty thatched-roof houses and swaying trees.
Several operators run snorkeling and scuba-diving tours in the lagoon and the nearby Motu Tiahura. This small islet is a lush oasis with some fantastic snorkeling areas and a restaurant. Go on a guided dive to see black-tipped reef sharks and stingrays swimming gracefully through the clear waters or spot schools of colorful tropical fish. You can also rent a kayak and go on a self-guided tour of the pristine waters and look down at the coral gardens below.
Join a sightseeing boat tour and learn about the island’s stunning landscape with your guide. Some tours include feeding sessions with the local wildlife.
There is a small collection of restaurants and hotels located on the streets behind the beach. Find a table at a restaurant or bring a picnic of fresh tropical fruit to enjoy in the shade.
Tiahura Beach is located on the northwestern coast of the heart-shaped island. It is a 30-minute drive from Moorea’s largest commune, Pao Pao. The beach is free to visit at any time.
