Beautiful
Positives: stunning view from balcony and bedroom windows, spacious, clean, very well equipped and maintained, dishwasher, whirlpool bath, large shower, stone walls, quiet, quite well located for trips/days out (eg. Limone, ferry to Malcesine, Riva, Gardaland, Dolomite bus tour), exceptional restaurant nearby, friendly and accommodating owner.
Negatives/observations/suggestions for improvement: There are two apartments on offer on this listing and there is no opportunity to make a choice. By chance we got the bigger of the two which had its own balcony. Perhaps this could be made clearer at the booking stage.
On arrival the arrangement is that one is required to check in to an agency in town which is tricky to find (even with sat nav) then find somewhere to park(again difficult). We were then told to meet the owner in another car park and then follow her to the apartment. It would have been so much less stressful if we could have gone directly to the apartment and met the owner/agency rep. there especially after our long drive from the airport.
Oldesio is situated high above Lake Garda and is on a beautiful but precarious mountainous road. The road is not for the faint hearted.
One is required to pay a damage deposit to the owner on arrival of 150 euros. Within five minutes of our arrival we decided to sit on the balcony and put the parasol up only to find that it was broken. We immediately informed the owner by phone and she had it replaced within days. Ideally this should have been noticed prior to our arrival.
The listing on Homeaway indicates that the apartment has air con. Some of the days were very hot and we had the air con on but did not feel that it was reducing the temperature by much. We put this down to the stone walls perhaps retaining the heat. We had assumed that aircon was included in the price of the rental. On a notice in the apartment we later read that there was a charge of 10 euros per day that the air con is on. Since it did not seem to be working and not included in our rental I queried this with the owner who said there would be no charge and that her husband would get an air con unit to us. This did not materialise. If there is air con it should obviously work and it should be made clear on the Homeaway listing if it is included or not.
