Tres Irmaos Beach Tours and Activities

Tres Irmaos Beach showing a sandy beach, a sunset and rocky coastline

Bring your camera to photograph this striking beach, which is dotted with large, eye-catching rocks that provide shade and shelter, and harbor several caves.

The scenic Tres Irmaos Beach is best-known for its striking ochre and golden-colored rock formations. Bring along a swimsuit for a paddle in the water and a camera to capture the beauty of these sandstone outcroppings, which have been shaped by the wind and the waves.

The beach’s name translates to “three brothers,” in reference to the three large rock formations on the beach. Find shade from the strong sun under the shadow of the rocks. Children will enjoy exploring the caves here.

Wear a swimsuit and splash about in the shallows. The waters here can be a little cold, but are great for cooling down on a hot day. After a swim, lay down on the sand and let the sun dry you off. Sun loungers are available for rent for those who want a more comfortable place to laze away a few hours.

Get your heart pumping by taking part in a watersports activities with a local operator. Cling on during a bumpy banana boat ride, speed around the bay on Jet Skis or enjoy a more leisurely paddle in a canoe. Or, just sit back and watch surfers and windsurfers at work on the waves.

Extending out behind the beach are sand dunes. Follow walking trails that lead through the undeveloped dunes and provide superb views back over the beach and at the waves crashing into the rocks.

Find Tres Irmaos Beach at the eastern end of Praia do Alvor. From the center of Alvor, it’s just under a 30-minute walk to the beach.

Come in summer and join other vacationing families on the beach. In winter, the beach is often deserted though the water will be too cold for swimming.
