Founded in 1924 and eventually opened in the 1950s, University College Hospital is the primary acute hospital for the west of Ireland. As part of the National University Ireland, University College Hospital is also home to one of Ireland’s top medical schools. As you would hope from any well-equipped hospital, University College Hospital has a wide range of in-patient services, and takes care of approximately 65,000 patients each year.
In recent years, the hospital underwent a major regeneration programme, launching a range of new services and improved facilities, so you can rest assured that you will be in good hands here. You’ll also be pleased to learn that the University College Hospital has a well-staffed accident and emergency unit.
Alternatively, it might be that you’re visiting Galway with a view to becoming a medical student here. If that’s the case, you’ll find the hospital conveniently located just across the road from National University Ireland. The hospital is situated on the meeting point of University Road and Newcastle Avenue, not far from where the River Corrib empties into Galway Bay.
