Lena's Cabin in Vail is nestled right beside Gore Creek, minutes from skiing.
This 1800 sq ft cabin sits on one of the most coveted properties in West Vail. It is nestled right on the Gore Creek and just minutes away from all major Vail chair lifts. It has been recently renovated with modern appliances and fixtures while keeping its original charm. Built in 1912, Lena's Cabin is a true Vail landmark. The original owners, Hank and Lena Elliott, were two of the original settlers in the Vail Valley. Their granddaughter, who still lives in the valley, authored a book detailing parts of their journey with original pictures of the cabin. Whether you're planning to ski, fish, hike or just spend time in the gorgeous Vail Valley, Lena's cabin is the perfect location. The cabin has modern amenities while still preserving its historical mountain charm. With 4 bedrooms, this cabin offers privacy for all guests. Everyone has a bed. The queen bedroom located on the lower level of the cabin has a full bathroom and steam shower. The other 3 bedrooms are on the upper level. The master bedroom, with a king bed, has its own bathroom, which also has a large steam shower. The additional second-floor bedrooms, one with a bunk bed, and one with a full bed, share a small bathroom located in the hallway. Lena’s cabin has a working wood fireplace which creates a very cozy environment. Firewood is provided. There is an outdoor hot tub adjacent to the cabin. While relaxing in the hot tub, enjoy views of either Gore Creek or the National Forest. The furniture in the family is extremely comfortable. Snuggle into the oversized, down-filled sofa and read about the history of the cabin in the book written by one of Lena's granddaughters. The kitchen is well-equipped with Kitchen-Aid applainces, and there is a large dining table that will seat at least 8 people. Some additional amenities the cabin offers: gas stove dishwasher garbage disposal coffee pot + filters keurig cookware wood fireplace cable WIFI steam showers hairdryers towels linens electronic code locks on doors board games + puzzles
This is an exquisite property in a highly sought-after location on a private road in Vail. It sits directly next to Gore Creek, which offers exceptional fishing. There is a small grass front yard and the cabin borders the White Forest National forest. There is access to the Town of Vaill's free bus system. The closest bus stop is the "Underpass" stop. It is approx. 5-7 minute walk from the front door. Everything you need access to is less than a 5-minute drive ... grocery store, liquor store, restaurants, cafes, convenience stores, and parks. The closest Vail Mountain access is Lionshead Village, a 6-minute drive, which offers the gondola to the top of the mountain.

We loved Lena’s cabin! It was quiet and clean and over all just super cozy. Host was very quick to respond to any questions! We had so much fun we can’t wait to be back.
Wonderful property! More than met our needs. Loved all the new appliances and steam showers. Great place to take photos right outside the door. Creek is in front and we were able to fly fish!
We (family of 6) had a wonderful week stay at the cabin for spring break. The cabin had great space, old charm yet with all modern conveniences. The location was convenient for Vail and BC ski resorts. Great overall stay.
Owners were responsive and wonderful to work with. The log cabin had all of the charm of a historic Colorado Cabin, yet the owners did an amazing job bringing the modern comforts to the interior while not loosing the charm. Well laid out kitchen, wonderful family room with fireplace, four bedrooms with very comfortable beds, and even two of the bathrooms had steam showers. Only suggestion would be to add a microwave to the kitchen. We loved it and would recommend it to others!
This was a ski trip for us and it was nice to be so close to Vail with the crowds. We actually drove a parked. At cascade every day. We rented skis there and it was valet so we never had to bring home skis or boots at night. It was 30 dollars a day to park right across for the lift. Cascade lift was never busy and a easy way to get on the mountain. At night time we drove into Vail for dinner. The cabin was great lots of room for the 5 of us and Kim was very friendly.

Cute cabin with highway interference.
A cabin that would have been nice away from the highway. The river is nicely right by the yard (as the picture show) but then it is the noisy highway. The highway goes unfortunately right through the Vail valley and this property is very close to the highway. FYI: Some of the electrical outlets did not work which would be a problem for a longer stay to dry hair in bathroom etc. Nicely updated bathrooms!
We felt so lucky to have found Lena's cabin for our trip to Vail. It is an authentic homesteader's log cabin from the late 1800's but it's been updated to have all of the modern amenities you'd ever need. The kitchen was well-stocked, making breakfast before a ski day super easy. It also has a table that comfortably seats 10 so we were able to have large dinners with friends too. We enjoyed movie nights on the big sofa, made smores in the fireplace and all jumped in the hot tub after a long day on the slopes. Gore Creek out front is beautiful and the kids enjoyed investigating the animal tracks in the snow.
All the beds were comfy and the baths have large, soft towels. There was shampoo & conditioner in each but we brought our own. The washer dryer came in handy allowing us to wash clothes halfway through our stay.
We drove to Lionshead daily - about 10 minutes. There is a free shuttle bus at the end of the driveway that the kids used when they didn't want to wait for the adults.
All in all, a great place to stay and we look forward to returning!

Great location and property
The cabin is beautiful, as pictured, and close to everything we wanted to do. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen had what we needed. Our only issue was cleanliness and some missing touches that could have made a better first impression. The person(s) who prepared the cabin for our stay left a window open with a screen that was not properly secured and we found a shocking number of flies buzzing around windows and light fixtures. We killed dozens of them upon arrival and into the next day, but hardly saw any after we kept the windows closed. A number of the screens need to be replaced or secured better. Overall, it felt like the cabin was well-prepared for winter rental, but not summer. There's no a/c (as indicated in the listing), so it would have been ideal to have windows open but we feared the return of the flies. The fans that we had to hunt for should have been out, or a note to tell us where they were. There were very beautiful, but extremely, faux fur coverings on all the beds, and nothing light to replace them with. There were no towels or waste baskets in the bathrooms. We had to find them.
And there was visible dust and debris under the furniture and in the fridge, so whoever cleaned did a poor job. Those are all easy fixes with the right person(s) taking care of the place. So I would still recommend the property.
Cabin was cute and had easy access to the ski hills. We did have some issues and Kim was great about responding and offering solutions. This wasn’t a cheap cabin and, based on the listing details, I expected more than what I felt we received, especially having stayed in many Vail VRBOs that have always been perfect.
First, the steam shower in the master bathroom upstairs didn’t work. This was a huge disappointment as I like heat after I ski. There is a hot tub outside (that they charge a fee for but Kim waived the fee for us since steam shower didn’t work) but it was not very hot at all despite being set to 104 degrees so we only used it once. The water in the master shower doesn’t get very hot so couldn’t even take a long hot shower.
The bed in the master bedroom is very soft with minimal support.
One other thing to note about the bathrooms - no shampoo, conditioner, soap, or lotion is supplied…not even a starter supply. This was a first for us in Vail and we didn’t realize it so had to run out at 9pm to buy it.
The other issues we had were with the kitchen. We ski hard and want to just come home, cook, and relax. This was a bit of a challenge in this house. Kim was quick to help out which we really appreciated. We didn’t realize there wasn’t a grill so she gave us one to use. The oven setting panel on the stove wasn’t working so we had no idea what the temperature was. She did bring us over a temperature gauge. One of the burners on the stove had to be lit with a match. The supply of pots and pans was minimal and very poor quality. There were no oven mitts to be found anywhere. And nothing but a washcloth to clean dishes afterwards. When we needed knives for one of our meals, we realized they only had one sharp knife (other than large chopping knives) so 4 of us had to share one knife.
The owner lives right next door and she admitted she hadn’t been in it since purchasing it earlier this ski season. For the amount of money they charge, it would be great if they could get in and fix some things or at least update the listing to be correct since I know it’s hard to get repairs done these days. And add some supplies to the kitchen which can easily be found on Amazon.
We had a great time staying at this property. It has a great location and is easy to reach Vail from. The beds were comfortable in the living area was great to congregate. The steam shower was awesome. The washer and dryer were very helpful. The internet was excellent as was the kitchen.
We decided in this property because it is winter and we wanted access to a hot tub. Unfortunately the hot tub here was filthy. When we removed the cover there was a carton of chocolate milk floating in the water. It was open but empty, or so we thought. When we go in the tub we realized how discussing it was. I can’t stress how disappointed we were in not having a hot tub to soak in. Other than that the place is amazing. We even fished in the gore creek right from the property.
We had a great time staying at this Cabin. Extremely convenient -- less than 5 minutes from the grocery store / liquor store, and only ~10-15 mins drive to Lionshead in Vail, and only 20-30 mins from Beaver Creek. Having the whole property meant we weren't disturbing others, and they weren't disturbing us.
We had a great time!!
