Vulqano Park is an amusement park surrounded by the impressive scenery of volcano peaks. The picturesque park is for all the family, with more than 20 rides and attractions, such as swings, carousels, interactive games and roller coasters. Take in the breathtaking views of Quito and the Andean Mountain Range as you psyche yourself up for the big drop of a thrilling ride or relax on a gentle carousel pony ride.
There is an eclectic range of attractions at the park to suit the whole family. Take the kids to the mechanical swings, train rides and playground areas. If you’re brave enough, ride the adrenaline-charged surf simulators and take the plunge on a bungee ride. Compete against your pals at the go-kart racing track and fly through the air on the Ejection Seat ride.
The really young children can climb aboard the colourful pirate ship and take part in a convoy race. Stop by at the visitor centre for information about the rides as well as snacks and drinks. There is a food court with several restaurants.
The amusement park sits at the base of the Teleférico gondola that takes passengers from Ecuador’s capital city up to the eastern face of Pichincha Volcano. The gondola, which is one of the world’s highest aerial lifts, features restaurants, cafés and shops at its 3,945-metre (12,943-foot) summit. Ride the gondola up to the vista point at Cruz Loma after a day of amusement park attractions. Marvel at the spectacular view of Quito and its surrounding mountains and volcanoes. Take the 3-hour hike up Rucu Pichincha, the smaller of the volcano’s twin peaks. It is a good idea to go with a local guide.
Vulqano Park is situated on the outskirts of Quito, about 5 kilometres (3.1 miles) to the north of the Old Town. Take a bus, taxi or drive to the site, which opens daily and has paid parking. There is no cost to enter the park, although prices for individual rides may vary. Receive a card from the visitor centre that can be recharged to pay for certain attractions.
