Enjoy a moment of calm in this beautiful and historic neo-Gothic church, one of the most distinctive buildings in the heart of Warnemünde.

Find your way around Warnemünde using the unmistakable Kirche Warnemünde, or Warnemünde Church, to orient yourself. Standing in the heart of the peaceful town, this striking building is not only an important piece of history and a wonderful example of neo-Gothic architecture, it is also an active part of the community, continuing to offer Evangelical services as well as hosting a wide range of different types of events throughout the year.

Work on constructing the church began in 1866, but the building wasn’t completed until 1871. Stand outside the building and look up at its impressive red-brick façade. It’s easy to imagine this historic building as it would have been over a hundred years ago, when it represented the true hub of the local community.

Note that although the building now marks the center of the town, it would originally have stood at the western fringes of the settlement. However, the heart of the town has shifted over the years.

Visit the building when a service isn’t on and you will be free to explore its interior at your own pace. Step inside and spend some time admiring the many little details that make this space so appealing even to non-Christian visitors. Notice how many of the furnishings and ornaments are even older than the building itself, having been collected from older churches that have now been demolished.

While you are close to the church, take the chance to visit some of the other attractions that are within easy walking distance. These include the Heimatmuseum Warnemünde, a local heritage museum, as well as the Warnemünde Lighthouse, which offers incredible sea views.

Warnemünde Church is open to the public on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Be careful not to visit on Sunday morning unless you plan to attend a service, as this is when the locals will be arriving for morning prayer. Check the church’s calendar, as musical performances and other events are held here regularly.
