Eva's Cottage - Romancing the River

Our calendar is updated in real-time & our nightly rates are accurately displayed. Simply enter your desired dates and click 'Book Now!'

Rustic luxury with attention to detail. Eva's Cottage is comfortable and cozy, with many thoughtful touches like the down comforter and pillows on the queen-size, custom-built log bed (truly one of a kind!), and travertine/river rock shower. Relax by the massive stone, wood-burning fireplace, or in the hot tub just outside the greatroom. With wireless internet, internet TV and landline, you'll be as connected as you want, or need to be. This one-bedroom, one-bath, cottage is perfect for a couple or a solo visitor. Alternate lifestyle- and dog-friendly.

he greatroomis dominated by a gas stone fireplace, with antique casement windows overlook the wraparound porch. The nook is a quiet, serene spot for reading or sleeping, and the kitchen is completely furnished to accommodate serious cooks, as well as those seeking a vacation from cooking.

In the well-stocked kitchen you'll find a programmable drip coffee maker, coffee filters, coffee grinder, a French Press, a Keurig, microwave, toaster oven, electric water kettle, placemats, cloth napkins, tea towels and a British hotel teapot with a copper cozy. All this is in addition to a full set of cookware, flatware, glasses, gas grill dinnerware for four, and full-size appliances. Amenities at Eva's Cottage also include toiletries, firewood, and dog towels/cleanup kit (your pooch is welcome).

If you need entertainment beyond watching the deer grazing nearby, you'll find internet TV (there is no other TV reception; the trees are so large they block line of sight to satellites) in greatroom, a TV/DVD/stereo in the bedroom, lots of games and books. Read about the fascinating woman who created this little slice of heaven which bears her name!

Eva's Cottage sits just a few steps from our sandy beach, down a sloping path. It is an idyllic location with many eagles, heron, hawks, and deer, a large 20' deep swimming hole and year-round waterfall. The land surrounding the Cottage and across the river is private and protected. The temperate climate is never too hot or too cold. [Note: beach is shared by residents of nearby home, but they are quiet and respectful of our guests. Please note also that beach fires and fishing from the beach are not allowed (there is great fishing just 1/2 mile downriver, on the other side of the Salmon Falls bridge).]

This 28.5 acre retreat includes a large and rare stand of old-growth Douglas fir, Western cedar, hemlock and maple; some of which are estimated to be more than 300 years old. Eva's descendants steward the land and maintain the forest with an eye to future generations' enjoyment. You'll have access to four trails along the property, so be sure to bring your hiking boots!

A good supermarket, drugstore, and other services are about 14 miles away in the town of Washougal. The location provides easy, year-round access to hiking, boating, fishing, skiing and more. The Washougal is one of only two completely unpolluted rivers in the region. It offers fine fishing, whitewater rafting, canoeing and kayaking as it flows into the mighty Columbia River just a few miles to the south. All manner of outdoor activities are close by, yet the setting itself is secluded and free from the noise and distractions of everyday life.

* Please note that there is no cell service at this home.

** There are outdoor security cameras on this property, however there are NO security cameras inside the home or on the hot tub. The outdoor security system is maintained for unwanted guests and the owners only view the driveways to make sure the unit does not go above occupancy.

Beautiful and historic gem
You won't regret staying here - it's a cabin but with all the amenities of home. Full kitchen, surprisingly fast wifi but zero cell service. You are sooooo close to the river. Bring good shoes so you can enjoy all the trails.

Babymoon
Loved staying at this home! My husband and I came for our babymoon with our two dogs and the house was perfect for us. The kitchen was definitely limited on essentials like pots and pans but we managed. Overall lovely stay thank you again!

Beautiful wilderness retreat
It was so quiet and peaceful, I definitely want to come back. Every day, we saw. deer, and my dogs and I loved exploring the trails several times a day, even in the rain. The river rock shower and stone fireplace are truly beautiful.

Eva’s Cottage
Great spot. There is one other house that shares the property. Sleeping wise- fits an adult couple and maybe one kid in the main living space. Having two older kids it’s a bit tight, and we even bring our own twin mattress. Kitchen in not fully stocked. Has some sauce pans and a few bowls- but no baking dishes or even an oven tray. Glassware and plates/ 4 of each. I would not rely on any spices or oils. Beautiful location.

Perfect forest getaway
Thank you for an exceptional experience! The descriptions, information, and communication were outstanding - we knew exactly what to bring, how to find you, check in, and enjoy the stay. The cabin was very comfortable for our family of 3 + dog. The kitchen was well-stocked and had everything we needed. The rooms and covered porch were spacious and had comfy nooks for us all to have some space. Everything was very clean and worked well. We appreciated all of the special touches, like tea for the keurig, bathroom supplies, stories about the family, and trail guides. We especially chose this spot to have some privacy and be immersed in nature; we enjoyed our stay very much.

Birthday getaway
It was a great stay! Due to some work issues my husband couldn't come till the weekend so it was great to have the futon available for my mom and sister to celebrate my birthday with me. Beautiful home, great time swimming, my dog loved it! Very quiet. Loved walking the "white trail" around the neighborhood! A great 30th birthday!

An absolute gem!
This cabin in the woods feels like a home away from home. With easy river access and immediate nature surrounding, this home is the definition of peace. When we stayed, it rained and we also got to see the sun bounce off all of the trees and the beautiful river. My dogs were so happy at this property and seeing them happy made it all worth it. I enjoyed not having cell service and using the wifi for night time entertainment. The hot tub was perfection and the bed was delightful. I’m excited to encourage friends to also check it out in the near future. This could easily be a go to spot for year round relaxation.

Weekend getaway
This quaint cabin was perfect for a peaceful getaway. Easy trail down to the river with a sandy spot to wade or lay in the sun. The giant swimming hole probably never gets real warm but it felt refreshing after laying in the sun! The white trail is a nice 15 min walk thru the trees and ferns. There were baby cedars planted (marked by pink flags)and an adopt a greenie spot where you can put a small metal marker next to one. The cabin kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils, pots, pans and some basic seasonings. The living room is comfy and would be cozy on a winter evening with a fire. The bathroom is clean, stocked with soap and shampoo and the water pressure is great. The queen bed is comfortable and there’s a big closet/armoire if you need to hang up clothes. The grill propane was filled and the triangle hot tub was perfect for morning coffee or evening drinks for two. I wouldn’t hesitate to book this cabin again!

Great Getaway
This is the second time I’ve stayed at Eva’s Cottage. It’s perfect! My only complaint is the hot tub. The first time I stayed it was dirty & I couldn’t use it. The second time I stayed there was so much chlorine just opening it gave a headache, so we couldn’t use it again :(. Everything else was perfect, just a bummer to be excited about hot tub and let down twice.

Cozy and charming but needs a terminator
This cabin was everything we were looking for. It was charming and remote and had great river access. Overall the property seemed like it needed a good cleaning and there is definitely a mouse problem. There was little black mouse excrement everywhere. If the owners get that under control this place would be perfect. Additionally, there is no tv and the internet is spotty at best, so if you can't live without being connected to the world, this isn't the spot for you.

Nice place, Poor Management
Nice cozy cabin on a beautiful river. $150 cleaning fee for a dirty cottage. Washed all dishes before using them, feet were black from floor , after cleaning and sanitizing we missed the sunset because no early check in, not even 30mins according to the rude representative. Here’s the best part, literally someone waiting there to escort you off the property at 9:45am because check out is at 10am. Beautiful property that is poorly managed, would not recommend.

Experience
The property was beautiful however, the cottage did not seem very clean. The outside trash was full and tried to contact the owner but no response. I brought my dog but was unaware of the salmon fever that he could contract by being in the water until reading about it in the manual left in the cottage. It is a very peaceful place though.

Quaint Cabin
The cabin was cute and cozy. Fire place and hot tub were great to have after a long day/s of hiking. Sitting on the porch with a cup of coffee or cold beer, depending on the time of day, and listening to the river behind the cabin was very relaxing. Unfortunately there were some negatives to the place. First and foremost, there was zero cell signal at the cabin (you had to drive 5 minutes towards SR-14 to get it), which was not in the description. Normally this wouldn't be an issue but the internet provided was" slightly faster than dial up" so planing the next day's hiking was a long a arduous process not to mention if you planned on streaming any movies/tv shows. The mattress is very stiff and dipped greatly in the middle. The fridge smelled like onions that had been left in there too long and the freezer was frosted over. Lastly, (less of an issue, just annoying) the cabin is in the flight pattern of PDX airport so aircraft can be heard going overhead from inside the cabin depending on which direction they are taking off and landing.

Fabulous River Cottage - Bed Description/Images Inaccurate - Sleeps Only 3-4
Cottage is in a very lovely location on a natural bend of the Washougal River with a waterfall and wonderful, well-maintained trails for guests to explore. We loved the breakfast/dining area where you could look out onto the river and the porch is awesome. The custom fireplace is made with different rock specimens that any rockhound would love. The noise of the river and view is hard to beat. Our kids loved playing in the river. We arrived finding a queen bed, futon, couch and two reclining chairs. The images and description of the property state that you can sleep five. There appears to be one missing couch/bed replaced by two chairs and the sofa is definitely not a sleeper. We immediately called VACASA asking for clarification and to see if we weren't understanding how to manipulate the couch to make another bed due to the change in furniture. Customer service was very kind and stated they'd contact the owners and call back quickly. Crickets. We were never called back at all. It was frustrating and a bad experience. We made it work but a good stay at a property is directly correlated to a good sleep by all. Our kids were troopers so it worked out. If you have more than three people consider bringing mats and sleeping bags. Don't count on VACASA providing any service or help during your stay.

Cozy and Warm - and no Cell Phone Service!
It was a great retreat for hardworking women who needed a beautiful setting, all sorts of pampering and a chance to unwind in God's beautiful surroundings! We came prepared to make a fire, but were so well taken care of, we just left the wood behind for the next inhabitants. I hope they enjoyed it! A few things we thought could make the stay even better: Scrubber pads for scrubbing the pans (sponges just don't cut it - though they were new and fresh!), Aluminum foil (for keeping baking clean), some Zip-lock baggies for left overs and we were hoping you could put in a hide-away bed or possibly a Murphy bed in that little area by the bathroom? The place really only sleeps 4 adults - or maybe a roll-out cot, etc., for people who have leg or knee trouble getting up or out of things? Again, we loved the location, warmth and history shared on the site and plan on booking it again once or twice in the coming year 2025. Thank you! VKS and Friends PS - we advise people NOT to try to get there at night... we missed our turn off twice - in the rain - in the dark - and spotty cell connection for GPS.
