"Had a one night stay following a trip to Hobbiton movie set. Stayed in chalet Frodo which is only a 10-15 min drive from Hobbiton.The chalet is very clean and well appointed. While quite compact it had everything the two of us required for an overnight stay. We had dinner at Osteria restaurant in the main centre which is only a 3 min drive away. Thoroughly recommend Osteria for quality of food, portion size , atmosphere and price"

"What a great find in Matamata. This small property is well maintained and quite personable. You feel like you are living in a guest house vs a motel. Excellent, starched linens and sparse, but workable furniture. The host is great, allows guests to use their extended back garden play area, and the property sits right on the rails to trails path. Very convenient location for a stopover to Hobbiton. Would stay here again."
