Following the successful Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010, the Whistler Olympic Park was opened to the public. The park now draws both professional athletes and the general public throughout the year, and offers a selection of both winter and summer activities.
The park is a fantastic base for keen winter sport enthusiasts, with over 55 kilometres of ski trails and 20 kilometres of snowshoe trails. The area is made even bigger thanks to some of the paths crossing with those of the Callaghan Country Wilderness Adventures (CCWA). Together, the paths from the Ski Callaghan area, and offer miles and miles of great trails which are suitable for all levels.
During the winter months, you can ski, snowshoe or toboggan to your heart’s content. Both group and private lessons are available for all ages.
You can try your hand at special biathlons, where you move been cross-country skiing and target shooting. Take some lessons and give it a go!
There is no shortage of things to do in the summertime either, with free access to the miles and miles of nature trails, which are perfect for exploring on foot, bicycle or horseback. You can strike out on your own with the help of maps from the day lodge or by taking the self-guided interpretive tour.
Located just 18 kilometres from Whistler, the Olympic Park offers free parking and provides a rental shop for all equipment. If you’re visiting in winter and not driving a four-wheel drive, make sure your car has been fitted with snow tyres.
The price of a day pass for the Olympic Park depends on your age, activity and group size, and includes all CCWA trails. Open daily, the park closes at night, with the opening hours changing depending on the season. Have a look at the website for more information. You can pre-book activities, lessons and equipment, which will save you valuable time. Dog owners can bring their dog for a small additional fee.
The winter season starts in mid-to-late November. The park is closed between late March/early April and May, when it is opened again for summer activities.
