The gravel road entrance to our 7 bedroom home is located approximately 8 miles south of Showdown Ski Area and 150 yards south of the green mile marker #21 on HWY 89. We have discounted lift tickets at Showdown Ski Resort and groomed cross-country skiing trails are located at King's Hill also 8 miles away. Approximately 300 miles of snowmobile trails or ATV trails in the summer are accessible directly FROM OUR HOUSE. Our next door neighbors recently started renting snowmobiles in the winter and ATVs in the summer. They even have an optional guide service available if you choose to be guided on the trails in the forest surrounding our house. Please ask Dave for more information.
We have many elk/deer hunting guests (for both archery and gun hunting) returning year after year because we are located in the middle of some of the best Elk & Mule Deer hunting in Montana. You can either walk directly from our house into the National Forest or drive a few minutes to your favorite spot nearby. Several of our guests have gotten a trophy 6X6 bull elk on their first time hunting in the forest surrounding our house.
For the fisherman, we have a small trout stream within walking distance or you can drive 10 minutes to Newland Creek Reservoir (plus 2 other reservoirs are a little further) or you can also drive to nearby streams like Belt or Moose Creek, or major Blue Ribbon rivers like the Smith, Missouri, Madison, Gallatin and Yellowstone for great rainbow and brown trout fishing. Local fishing guides are available on a neighboring 100,000 acre working cattle ranch with over 30 miles of fishable rivers and streams on the property (names and phone numbers can be provided). Or you can be guided on the major rivers listed above. There are 3 major reservoirs on the Missouri River (including Canyon Ferry Reservoir which is only 50 minutes away) plus Holter and Hauser Reservoirs all have some of the best walleye fishing in the US (up to 20 lbs.) plus rainbow and brown trout fishing as well.
The National Forest surrounding us is also great for 4-wheeling, mountain biking, hiking, and bird/wild game watching. Star-gazing is also incredible from our backyard as the lodge is located at 6200 feet above sea level and there is NO light pollution so the stars are brighter than you have ever seen before. Just 20 minutes away to the north is Memorial Falls which is only a short hike from the parking lot off HWY 89. A must to do is soak in the mineral hot springs pools in White Sulphur Springs just 1/2 hour away.
The lodge is a great place for family reunions with plenty of space in the main lodge room to spread out. A foosball table is also available in a separate room or you can choose from the many board games available or pick a book from the huge library. There is both a large screen TV in the main living room and in the master bedroom with DISH satellite hookups plus 2 smaller TVs with kids movies are also available.
We have had people use our large home many times for 3 and 4 generation family reunions, a small wedding and wedding reception, 50th wedding anniversaries, quilting and scrap-booking groups, church groups, etc. It is a great place to use as a base location for your vacation to tour both Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks which are 2.5 to 3 hours away.
The lodge has 1 king bed in the master bedroom w/private bath, walk-in closet and love seat. In addition there are 5 queen private bedrooms and 2 twin beds that all share 3 bathrooms. The main lodge room has fully stocked gourmet kitchen with 3 dining room tables that seat up to 8 people each, 1 large gas grill is available for all your BBQ needs, plus all linens/towels are provided, just bring groceries. Wood burning stove is available for your use with split provided wood in the over-sized double garage. Paper products and many spices are available in the cupboard for your use.
Outside in the back yard is a fire pit that you can build a fire to sit around to enjoy the cool evenings and tell your favorite stories or roast smores for desert. Some outside lawn furniture is also available for your use and enjoyment as well. Because we are located in a forest, we have little to NO LIGHT POLLUTION so star gazing is absolutely amazing. You can see so many stars and the Milky Way is as bright as you will ever sit it anywhere. If you have never seen the Aurora Borealis, we are a great place to try to see it. The internet says the best places to see the Aurora Borealis offer little to no light pollution, clear skies and no precipitation. THIS IS US in our back yard.
There are many great restaurants in White Sulphur Springs like the newly established "Jawbone" open evenings Thurs. - Sundays has a great variety with an excellent chef and staff. We are there and had one of the best meals ever including places like Denver and Phoenix. Then "Bar 47" which is open for lunch and dinner has the best mushroom burgers you will find anywhere plus great steaks, etc. There are also 4-5 great places for breakfast and lunch also downtown WSS. Then there is Stage-line Pizza where you can order one and eat in while watching a movie on weekends or carry out your pizza and eat it next door at the new brewery that does not serve food but has lots of beer.
There are 2 great little grocery stores in WSS that have some of the best beef grown locally in our area of Montana that you will find anywhere in all the US. Grocery delivery from a local grocery store is also available, just ask Dave for further details. In case of a medical emergency, we have a very good local hospital with great doctors that hopefully you will not need to use but it is available if needed. A local pharmacy is also available in the grocery store at the east side of WSS on the north side of the street. So our great little town has everything you may need, including a great mechanic for any car problems that also runs a tow truck service if you should ever need it.
