Dogs - We welcome dogs at no additional cost, we only ask that you please inform us that they will be present.
We also ask that you do not leave them unattended and if you do that they are crated or confined to a single space within the cabin.
Unfortunately, we have had a past guest or two whose pets acted up and created ‘challenges’ (for cleaning and/or damaged furniture) that could not be handled within a normal cleaning cycle. We want to continue allowing pets but to do this we please ask for your cooperation and assistance in this area.
Cats - We cannot accommodate cats as we are allergic and cleaning becomes too difficult for us.
Other types of pets—chickens, goats, rhinos, or other exotic pets… are typically not allowed, but please ask us, and we can discuss whether it is possible.
**This is a non-smoking cabin. Please do not smoke inside the cabin.**
FULL DISCLOSURE: Although the cabin is under 12 miles from downtown Whitefish. The “Last Approx 2.3 miles” is a long gravel road that is maintained all year long, but is not recommended for motorcycles that don’t do well on gravel or vehicles that don’t like gravel roads (read new sports cars with low clearance), i.e. possible dust and bumps along the road. The drive is worth the prize... but hey we are biased on this point.
During the winter months, AWD or 4x4 is required due to snow and hills a long the last 2.3 miles.
**Please note the home is not childproof nor does it have safety gates.
We are in bear country! Please don’t leave food out on the deck or garbage outside. Bear spray is recommended if you are hiking. We have some available to use if needed, just ask.
The cabin gets 4-5 bars with Verizon. We don’t have AT&T but folks that do state they had a good connection.
The internet speed is a dedicated 20 Mbps download / 3 Mbps. with a ping of 14 ms. We use a Wi-Max connection. Which is like Wi-Fi but covers longer distances. It is reliable but can be affected by very severe weather.

Internet speeds briefly explained below for those that might be asking is the speed good enough. Yes, the connection speed is good for working when on vacation. I have been asked this a few times so I thought I might provide the below to help frame a common understanding.
We have 20 Mbps/ 3 Mbps (down/up) and is good for 1-3 devices connected to the internet and all surfing at the same time. Or watching Internet TV or YouTube videos and one device surfing.
Typically a few devices can be connected and working fine because they are not all tasking the internet at the same time. The challenge is downloading larger files, video conferencing, and watching TV all at the same time. These are all full-time internet tasking activities. Just do one and it’s all good start doing more and more bandwidth is eaten up.
Some general-bandwidth guidelines when thinking about internet speeds and what is required.
Below are general requirements with one device connected to and actively using the internet.
Video conferencing via Zoom or Skype
One-on-one video call:
- 1.0Mbps/800kbps (down/up) for high quality video.
- For gallery, 5 person or less viewing and/or 720p HD video: 1.5Mbps/1.5Mbps (down/up)
- Receiving 1080p HD video requires 2.5mbps (down/up)
- Sending 1080p HD video requires 3.0 Mbps (down/up)
For Netflix viewing:
- Minimum recommended broadband connection speed: 1.5Mbps
- Real-world recommended minimum for SD: 3Mbps (down)
- Real-world recommended minimum for HD: 5Mbps (down)
Amazon Prime videos:
- Needs just 900 Kbps (down) to be streamed in standard definition, but you'll need a bandwidth of 3.5 Mbps (down) to upgrade the picture quality to HD.
Youtube videos:
- Google states that YouTube videos can be streamed in standard definition for just 500 Kbps (down) with live events requiring at least 1 Mbps (down). To watch YouTube in HD, 720p videos require a minimum of 2.5 Mbps, while those in 1080p need at least 4 Mbps
