Comfortable, Quiet, and Remote Studio On A Working Ranch In Southern Arizona

Enjoy a place away from the city while visiting the beautiful Chiricahua Mountains. This studio is on a working cattle ranch near the Chiricahua National Monument and Pinery Canyon of the Coronado National Forest both noted for their excellent birding, wildlife and hiking opportunities--a photographers paradise.

Relax with our majestic sunsets, dark nights and our peaceful, quiet country atmosphere from the comfort of our accommodations where day trips to Ft. Bowie National Monument, Bisbee, Douglas, Tombstone, Portal and Willcox are easily accessible. The Willcox area is also becoming a winery destination with 13 tasting rooms in the vicinity.

Available for your comfort: 2 queen beds, pull out couch, central air and heat, wifi, kitchenette. However, there is no TV and only emergency phone service available via the neighboring house. Cell phone service is very limited. We do not charge a cleaning fee or extra guest fee.

** This is a working ranch and the studio is connected to a shop area. We will do everything to keep our noise down during your stay.

Clean, well-assembled apartment with everything we needed and more. Comfortable beds, well-stocked kitchen and bathroom. We briefly met several of the ranch residents during our stay, and they were very welcoming. The location is remote, very quiet, and beautiful. We visited Chiricahua National Monument and it was only a mile away from our VRBO. We'd like to visit again in the future.

Charming ranch guest house only a couple miles down the road from beautiful Chiricahua National Monument. Listen to the critters chirping and watch a beautiful sunset from the porch. Clean, cozy and practical with a kitchenette and warm, welcoming hosts that live on the property.

Stay near the Monument
Overall, we were very happy with the accommodations and the cottage. It was neat, clean, and in good order. We enjoyed the labeling of all the items and locations, the cozy 1970s vibe, and the location of our park destination. We also enjoyed our conversation with the owners of the working ranch. The mini museum on the property had a lot of history and cool artifacts. We loved it!

Perfect Retreat
We loved our stay on this peaceful ranch. Great location away from everything, yet so close to Chiricahua NM and the Coronado NF. We really enjoyed all the birds around, especially all the owls at night. Jim's collection of relics and rocks were fantastic too. We enjoyed chatting with him. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!

I can't speak highly enough of this special place. Located on a working ranch, it's right next to Chiricahua National Monument, a great place to hike, bird, and photograph. In the cabin, everything is thoughtfully arranged and labeled for guest comfort. Special touches like fresh farm eggs and hand-sewn textiles give the place a unique and memorable spirit. It's quiet, the night skies are bright with stars, and the front porch is a comfy reading spot. The owners are friendly but not intrusive; we really enjoyed visiting with them. We'll definitely be back.

Perfect for us!
My wife and I hoped to stay at a ranch, not a dude ranch, and this was it! I grew up with cattle and this ranch brought back all of my memories. Even more than this was that those at the ranch made us feel so welcomed, like were we’re old friends. The room was immaculate, it had everything a person could need, was so well done and organized and the bed was wonderful! The location was ideal given the mountains, Ft Bowie, etc. and we will definitely go back! This said, if you’re looking for a dude ranch experience with cookouts, games, riding, childcare, etc. then consider somewhere else given that this is a working ranch not a dude ranch. For us, it was exactly what we wanted and the slow pace and beautiful scenery and simple living made memories for us.

Great place to stay when visiting Chiricahua
This place is a great value. Only a few minutes drive from the entrance to Chiricahua National Monument. Everything you could need in the house and everything labeled so you don’t have to guess where stuff is. The host provided fresh, free range chicken eggs. The beds were comfy. It also has a nice sitting area where you can enjoy a book and watch the many birds at the feeders on the front porch. The hosts were very communicative. Highly recommended.

Everything about this stay was wonderful. Location was just minutes from entrance to Chiricahua National Monument. The studio had two comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen and plenty of windows to view the beautiful ranch setting and watch birds perching on the two bird feeders. Briefly spoke to the hosts and enjoyed learning about their history with the ranch and region. Would happily stay here again.

Great vrbo close to Chiricahua National Monument
This is a wonderful place to stay. So private and perfectly outfitted for our two day stay. The hosts are friendly and have thought of everything! The proximity to Chiricahua NM made it easy to go for hikes and not have to drive farther than one mile to get there. We will be back.

We stayed at this location several times prior to Covid and the challenges to travel. the property, setting, the amenities and of course the owners are just charming and comfortable for us. We’ve enjoyed learning about the Ranch, chatting with them and helping with a few of the chores (!) If we are able, we would come in the future over and over again.

Paradise Found
Wow! Crossed J Ranch was our favorite vrbo EVER! The Riggs family members that we met, Jim, Janna, Buffy and Ethan, did everything possible to make our stay pleasurable. It was so peaceful and beautiful—colorful birds flittering around the feeders, cozy fire pit on the porch, coral sunsets, dark, starry skies—who could ask for more? It was the most well-equipped vrbo we have ever encountered. Cupboards and drawers were labeled so you could easily find everything. The bed was cozy and super comfortable. Linens were soft and bountiful. They even had a drawer containing items one might have forgotten. A dozen fresh eggs and butter were in the frig upon our arrival. Just remember to go food shopping before you get there so you don’t have to make a trip to Willcox for supplies, even though Buffy offered to share any item that we might have needed. We want to go back and experience every season in this amazing place!

Chiricahua Perfection
I chose Cross J Ranch because of how close it was to Chiricahua National Monument, where I had planned to do a lot of hiking. I was blown away by the casita when I arrived. So charming, clean and comfortable. As I was unpacking my car, Jim came by to greet me. He was so kind and informative. The beds and pillows were incredibly comfortable. I actually forgot my special pillow for my neck, but I didn’t even notice as there’s were perfect. Coffee and fresh eggs in the morning, thanks to their beautiful chickens. I started my hikes later than expected both days, because I was so entertained by the birds coming by to eat from the feeder. Such a beautiful property with giant trees. I could have easily sat there all day. I am so thankful for the chance to stay there and can’t wait to go back!
