I cannot remember a worse experience. On the day of my check-in, management called to inform me of a water system breakage the day of my arrival, they felt they had resolved the problem and checked me in as planned. I was surprised to find gray water coming through the faucets, shower, and the toilet. The room smelled like a sewer. They didn't clear the system nor certify that the water was safe to drink or bath as his required in most jurisdictions. I never felt comfortable showering and never drank the water after that. At 10p one night, while preparing for bed a very loud alarm came on in the room. After taking a look inside and outside I concluded it was a false alarm. After about 3 minutes of screeching alarm, I attempted to call the front desk. No answer. I waited another 3 minutes and called again. No answer. At this point, my ears were ringing and so I disconnected the alarm. Just as I was about to get in the bed, I was startled by the entry of two fully geared up Firemen rushing up the stairs in my room. They did their job, but it was awkward standing in the middle of the room in my underwear. To add insult to injury, about 30 minutes later, haven't gone to bed, the phone rang and surprise. It was the front desk, advising me that the alarm company would need to enter the room at 8a. I had 2 calls scheduled for that morning and was forced to leave my room to conduct them. Finally, I was told I would be charged hundreds for the alarm co service call. WORST EVER

We arrived on a rainy, dark night after a long drive. We were graciously greeted and given our room keys. Our accommodations were spectacular. The fireplace, mammoth bed, beautiful furnishings and luxury bathroom created the perfect environment for a relaxing and peaceful stay.

Very nice place to stay. Will come here again. Only complaint was having to walk with our luggage from the parking lot to the Carpenter building. The next day we saw some golf carts AND some pull carts outside other buildings. Why weren’t these offered to us?? We are elderly and it was a hassle to get our luggage to our room. Also, we didn’t appreciate having to carry our bags up two flights of stairs.

We had a delightful dinner at Krazy Kats a restaurant on hotel property. Everything was walkable, the cottage was charming and in excellent condition. Highly recommend spending a few nights here to relax and recharge.

Just small changes would make this property 5 star *get a coffee maker that doesn’t spill half of the coffee *clean out the ice maker for each visitor….very bad taste *upgrade the ceiling fan….it sounded like it was going to fall on us in the middle of the night *maybe have a small option for drinks or snacks before 5 to keep your guests on property Otherwise, very quaint, beautiful location!

We loved this historic property. The room was really nice and secluded, but an easy walk. The robes were so comfortable that we ended up buying two of them when we checked out. I would definitely go back here again.

It is WORTH a visit and stay!
We had a fabulous stay. We wanted to feel luxurious without too much extravagance, and thought this place was it! After looking into the history of Montchanin, I am honored to have stayed here. For starters we were able to check in a little early and our room was available. We then took in all the amenities and were pleased with it all. They have a fitness center, a luxury spa, a concierge. Ample parking, and the village is quaint and time capsuled. I had a very nice walk in the crevices and walkways of the village. Each building had a distinct look. We overlooked the railyard at the back of the building. Not sure if they are still operational but we didn’t hear anything in our stay there. We also reserved Brunch at Krazy Kate restaurant and it did not disappoint. We had a fabulous time!

very unique property. A cluster of homes from early 1900s comprising the rental units. For us it was right by the the Brandywine sites and so was very convenient. Also pricing was good and a nice restaurant available too.
